Nick Barnett could be lost for the season

Packers middle linebacker Nick Barnett injured his wrist during Sunday’s win over the Lions.  He finished the game with a cast on his wrist.

According to Greg Bedard of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Barnett could now be finished for the season.

Barnett needs surgery to repair the wrist.  If/when he has it, he won’t play again this year.

But the question becomes whether Barnett will be able to play for the balance of the season without having the surgery.

“If it’s not a break, I can tape it up and play,” Barnett said after Sunday’s game, per Bedard.

Barnett, an eighth-year veteran, missed the last seven games of the 2008 season after tearing an ACL.  He has started all but two other games of his career.

  1. Packers are perilously thin at LB already. Chillar may be out with a bum shoulder for the season.
Not great news for the defense.

  2. Wow Ryan Grant, Justin Harrell, Morgan Burnett, Brandon Chillar and now Nick Barnett and we’re only 4 game into the season. Toss in Johnny Jolly’s suspension and the 3 guys on PUP- Al Harris, Atari Bigby and James Starks.
The Packers are a walking MASH unit, sucks I was so excited for this season.

  3. Who the hell is left in Green Bays backfield? Wow what an amazing amount of early season injuries for the Pack.

  4. Come on, Nick! Even if we have to lose him, Gotta keep moving forward! Injuries happen. You keep the train rollin’! It’s an opportunity for another guy to shine. GO PACK GO!!!

  5. If Thomas Davis wasn’t hurt, the Panthers and Packers could have made epic moves to help each club.
Dan Connor has proven he is a starting mlb in this league, and with James Anderson making strides as one of the best up and coming lbs, along side Beason and Davis, that could have a been a viable option.
And I think many of us have already played the Deangelo Williams for Greg Jennings cards.

  6. S**T! No more injuries, please! Luckily we have depth there, unlike other spots (cough cough RB and Safety cough cough)

  7. And the hits just keep on coming.
Sucks for any player to go down but how many more are going to go down for the Packers!?
Its as if though the Packers have some bad karma which is supposed to be a wake up call to those who still claim TT is doing a good job. Im sure he wont go and find another replacement because thats just the way it is.
So I must ask again…Packer fans…is everything still A-OK in your fantasyland!?

  8. Desmond Bishop come on down.
Vikings trolls, get a life. Win some games before you start gloating over the Pack’s injuries.
    You’ll get yours.

  9. He should sit out. Ryan Torrain steam roll him if he isnt operating at 100%.
    Shredd that cheese Mcnabb

  10. I think the NFL needs to increase the size of the roster.. (18 games? can we get thru 16?)

  11. They will just have to hit the waiver wire and sign guys who want to win a sb, the chargers did it last year, they did pretty well, although they did get smashed out the first round by a less talented jets team.

  12. Hopefully he can throw a club on it and power through…. he’s a tough guy

  13. As a Vikings fan I should be happy but it is never good to see an injury to anyone. Get well Nick and hopefully it isn’t too serious.

    You mad.

  15. “If Thomas Davis wasn’t hurt, the Panthers and Packers could have made epic moves to help each club.”
Really??? Somehow I don’t think the Panthers would have gone for Ted Thompson’s lowball offer of a 7th round pick (conditionally to become a 6th if Davis made the Pro Bowl).
I’m sure he is scouring other team’s practice squads instead.

  16. DeAngelo Williams for Greg Jennings? No way that will happen. Imagine if next season is more than 16 games or the Panthers make noise in a postseason soon, while other teams will have RB injuries ruining their season, Carolina will have another option.
Jennings for Slaton is a better starting point for a trade.

  17. it wasn’t long ago Packer fans was talking sh*t to Viking fans……….. Guess boy wonder Rogers has to play offense, defense and special teams! Now, we get to see just how good TT & M&M really are……….. NEXT MAN UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. no way packers trade any players for deangelo, if anything itd come out of draft picks.

  19. I’m starting to wonder if the Packers need a new conditioning coach. Sure seems like it.

  20. Ok honestly having watched Barnett for years, not that big of a deal. Most overrated Packer Defensive player they have. That guy has zero instincts for going after the football. Whenever a big run happens it’s cause Barnett went the wrong way. He picks the wrong hole more then a drunk frat boy.
Not too mention he’ll get his ass beat all day long, and then finally make 1 good tackle and out comes that stupid samurai sword celebration.
I look forward to seeing what someone else can do in that spot.

  21. calistin we already did. we started the season off with injuries if you didn’t notice. you guys are just gettin hit hard right now.

  22. Man, what a bad week for the Packers!! Morgan Burnett lost for the season, Moss goes back to Minnesota, they miss out on an easy trade for Marshawn Lynch to replace the ineffective Brandon Jackson, and now Nick Barnett could be lost for the year?!?! At this point, I may have to consider jumping ship and just becoming a Vikings fan. Oh, wait — I already am!! GO VIKES!

  23. Face it, Favre was right! Thompson has all these issues glaring right at him, and he does NOTHING!
I think Rodgers is starting to be aware of what Brett was complaining about as well.

  24. I don’t wanna work…..wanna bang on de drum all day!!!!! bwaaaahahahaha…ain’t gonna be hearing that much more this year? LMFAO!!!!!

  25. First off… Nick is NOT a middle linebacker… heis an INSIDE linebacker.
Next it says he COULD be lost for the season IF hehas surgery…
He says “If it’s not a break, I can tape it up and play,”
I read no evidence here that he WILL be out for the season…
    Stop freaking out!

  26. Again. To all you Packer fans wishing/flaunting the Vikings to move to L.A.
    Karma.

That’s a fair point, but let’s be honest — how well can a linebacker possibly play with a taped up wrist? He needs free use of his hands to wrap up on tackles, strip the football, and recover fumbles. I don’t know how good his backup is, but I have to believe they’d be better off with a healthy backup taking over than with an injured starter with one taped up wrist that makes for one useless hand.

  28. Geez the Pack can’t catch a break, hopefully the guy can weather through it. Nothing worse than someones season or career ending to injury. When you play a team you want to play their best.

  29. wow that hurts our super bowl chances. Dang it. I wonder if chillar or poppinga can do it?

  30. That was a great pre-season super bowl you packer fans had going. What did you get? The Dumbardi award?

  31. Didn’t think my smile could’ve got any wider after the Moss trade, but now.
Wait, never cheer for an injury.
Double wait, Oh Yeah, its the Packers.
    Sorry.
    He has a terrible haircut.

  32. Pack will overcome, Vikings will spend in desperation.
GL Queens, all your paper moves mean nothing.

  33. I love the guys on here saying the Packers were pre-season champs and now the seasons done with already.
First of all, the season isn’t done yet and secondly, the Packers aren’t in trouble because their teams sucks because of a lack of talent. If that was the case then your rips on the Packers would make more sense. The Packers are in trouble because of injuries.
To all you Vikings fans out there: imagine losing Peterson on offense, and then E.J. Henderson, Jimmy Kennedy, Chad Greenway, and your starting SS, and having your other starting SS on the PUP along with Antoine Winfield on defense and then Toby Gerhardt as well. Add Madieu Williams, Ray Edwards, and your nickel back being out for a couple of weeks and you have a position by position analysis of the Packers situation for your team.
You guys would be in trouble as well. It’s not because a lack of talent but because of injuries. Every team in the league would be hurting with that situation and the Packers are still 3-1.

  34. Packers have depth unlike the Vikings… they don’t have to go dumpster diving for has beens when things start to go sour.

  35. How many games have the Vikings won this year?
    How “great” has Favre looked?
    How’s that O-line.
How many band aids can you stick on a gaping wounds?
Favre=Biggest Choke QB in big games
Childress= Biggest Joke of Headcoach in NFL
Moss=Shadow of himself, if BB didn’t want him, you know the tank is empty.
    GL FAILQUEENS!!!
    Enjoy 3rd place.

You seem to forget the Vikings did have “theirs”, both starting CB’s, Chris Cook and Ced Griffin, Center John Sullivan, WR Sid Rice….all the while they are playing the tough half of their schedule which included 2 losses by a total of 9pts to the defending SB champs in New Orleans and another playoff team in the Fins. The Pack has their tough part of the schedule in the second half of season. As for Carolina trading DeAngelo Williams for …..G. Jennings, ain’t gonna happen. Jennings had one good year in his career and it happened to come when …..yes, Favre was the QB. Jennings isn’t a whole hell of a lot better than B. Berrian for the Vikes……..but you have nothing to worry about packer fans, according to your posts, A. Rodgers is “all world” and can do anything like lose to da’ bears and barely beat the lions, lol

I’d have to say it made a difference in 2008 and again in 2009 and more than likely once again in 2010. Paper moves in GB only mean that TT had a bowel movement when he heard about the Moss trade.

  39. Mr. Humble, are you serious? You have absolutely zero football knowledge if you think Jennings and Berrian are on a similar level.
You also say Jennings only good year came with Favre at QB. False again my friend. Jennings had 1300 yards and 9 TD’s in Rodgers first year as the starter. He had over 1100 yards again last season. He did have 12 TD’s with Favre in 07′ but he didn’t even hit 1000 yards and that was on a team with fewer weapons. Get your facts straight.
Favre’s got 2 TD’s and 8 TO’s right now so I wouldn’t talk too much. Steve Young, Terry Bradshaw, Tim Hassleback, Dan Marino, Troy Aikman and countless other former QB’s and players have said that Rodgers is in the top QB tier alongside Manning, Brady, and Brees so I’ll take their word for it over yours.

  40. How quickly confidence turns to panic and incessant ramblings from the cheesy ones.
Almost makes me can’t wait for Favre to carve up that Packers’ D yet again – just like last year.
I can see Favre playing a few more years now.

  41. Lots of injuries all over the league and it’s only been four weeks. I really hope they do not expand the season to 18 weeks. We will be seeing only the fourth string players by the end of it.

  42. Being the saint fan I am, I can appreciate irony.
Wana see a MASH unit, check the NFC South Champs.
Anyone who even suggested trading jennings has to be insane of seriously rydin bellichek’s bench haaaard.
Y’all will be ok, but so will we.
WHO DAT pick dem packers, E1. Ha!

  43. Obviously some of the Pack fans posting here are refusing to face the facts since Barnett is out for the year. To say that Rodgers is a top tier QB without winning ONE playoff game yet is enough to make me gag. I see that he is already starting to criticize TT and MM, and he is only in his sixth year. Thompson, be careful what you wish for.

  44. I love how the Viking trolls come out of the woodwork when the Pack has bad news. Injuries have already hurt the Packers quite a bit this year and I’m sure there will be more to come. I guess the Vikings trading for Moss seals the Lombardi then? What a joke. While he’s still a good player, I would not label him to be a great player anymore. I’d be more concerned about Favre being killed with your swiss cheese offensive line. Moss is not much of a signing if TJ is throwing him the ball. Having said that, I do admire how the Vikings management at least recognizes a need and actually does something about it unlike TT. The Vikings better win the Superbowl because after this year the team is going to be back in rebuilding mode for a long, long time…….

  45. It sucks to lose 2 starters for the season in one week, but as the old wise man said.
    Oh well.

  46. Paper moves in GB only mean that TT had a bowel movement when he heard about the Moss trade
