Report: Moss dissed Belichick on plane back from Miami

We reported on Wednesday that the trade of Randy Moss from New England to Minnesota was fueled by the fact that Moss was becoming a bigger distraction for the team, and specifically for coach Bill Belichick.

Former Patriots receiver Troy Brown has added some substantial meat to that generalized bone, reporting via CSNNE.com that Moss ignored Belichick on the plane back from Miami after Monday night’s 41-14 win.

“Apparently, Belichick came to the back of the plane to
speak with Randy and Randy just pretty much ignored him and didn’t
respond to anything he had to say,” Brown said.

“I
guess there were a few other members of the team — some front-office
people and maybe some players — that tried to talk to him, just talk to
him in general, and he didn’t respond to those guys, either,” Brown added.

Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com also has reported that Moss and quarterbacks coach Bill O’Brien had a heated exchange at halftime of the Monday night game.

It’s classic Moss behavior, and he’s smart enough to know that, with trade talks percolating, his behavior would be enough to get the deal done.

  1. Its apparent Randy had to go.
Lets see what happens in a couple of weeks if the Vikings don’t sign him to an extension.
Wishing Randy the game of his life on MNF !

  2. good for moss, same way manny left the bosox. that city is a joke.
logan mankins and moss are right, kraft and belichik are cheap, lying mongrils

  3. There had to be something going on behind the scenes. The Pats would have likely received a compensation pick tacked on to the end of the 3rd round if Moss left via free agency. They traded him AND a 7th round pick to move up 5-10 spots in the third round? Obviously something was very wrong.

  4. it’s a beautiful thing to watch this crybaby who needs to “feel wanted” can’t wait for it to blow up in Minny! A few losses and it will be a done deal

  5. The best the Patriots would get in a compensation pick would be a 5th rounder. He is a 10 year vested veteran, and it would be for the following draft in 2012.
I am sure there is alot more to the story that we arent getting. Personally I am ok with this move because Brady was forcing to many throws to Moss and led to some interceptions (see Jets game). I think this will give an opportunity for the younger guys to step up.

  6. bills9951 ,
Boston is a joke ? How is it living in one of the worst cities in the US that is considered a DUMP on the lake that Buffalo is ?
At least as a Bills fan you can start to plan as to what QB the Bills will take with the first pick in the draft because like Buffalo being the worst city, the Bills are the worst team in the NFL.
Enjoy your season tying the record set by the Lions !

  7. Moss has *never* not been a douchebag.
By contrast, T.O. frequently has been cool.
    Ochocinco’s antics are always light-hearted and fun-spirited.
Santonio Holmes means well and is beloved by teammates, past and present.
The list goes on and on about “the DIVA WRs,” but the only one who is just the consummate 24/7 a-hole is Moss. Moss points blame at everyone, thinks he’s above the law, pushes a female police officer with his luxury ride for 4 blocks, hoses down a ref with a water bottle, violates several laws, has been kicked off college teams, drugs up, constantly takes plays off, is afraid to block with fear so great he doesn’t even try … to the detriment of his teammates and coaches, gives defenders many “tells”, ……. this list could grow ,but the point is WHO IS A MORE SELFISH ASSCLOWN THAN RANDY MOSS?
Moss got vomited out of the Notre Dame, Florida State, Minnesota, Oakland and New England programs for a pittance of what his production merited. Coincidence? Or should I say MULTIPLE coincidences?
Minny went all in with this quintessential turd — it’ll be entertaining to see it all unfold. Moss seems to seduce many, until they get to see the WHOLE picture …….. where he seems to leave a wake of thinner wallets, anger, unfulfilled promise with the occasional titilating tease, and roaches in the ash tray that he “doesn’t know how they got there.”

  8. Actually a compensatory pick for a 10 year veteran would be 4th or 5th rounder that you are not able to trade.
As much as I love watching Moss make catches, people in the Boston area have not been happy with a the play calling in the past year (shotgun too much, no play action, too predicable, etc.) and having Randy may have been part of the problem.
We are also looking forward to having the ball in Brandon Tate’s hands more as he was truly the steal of the 2009 Draft.

  9. I don’t see a problem, the Pats decide right or wrong that Moss has lost a step, or they just want to move their offense away from the deep ball, which they rarely used before Moss anyway. Moss decides he doesn’t want to be around for a reduced role, so they let him go.
You could even say Belichick was being benevolent, because they could have just kept him on the team and rarely use him for the rest of the year, but they were decent enough to let him walk. Doesn’t really seem to be any personal animosity, other than Randy not understanding the NE way of dealing with aging expensive players.

  10. I think it was a win win situation. Randy gets out and the patriots can stop forcing the ball to him just to make him happy. Glad Belichick got rid of him quickly if this stuff is true. Definately will miss some of the plays he is capable of making.

  11. PFT has called Moss “smart” several times recently. Does it really take being smart to understand that behaving like a child gets you treated like a child? Really?
    Moss is a dope.

  12. For the life of me, I don’t understand why any team would want the baggage that comes along with this man.
Sure, he’s going to be good, as long as he is happy. But, once he’s pissed, he will tear down the team, just like he did in New England, Oakland, and Minnesota initially.
It’s a shame that so much talent is overshadowed by an immature personality.
Maybe this time, he’ll spit the water down the back of Childress, instead of a ref. That would probably be the most fun Childress has had in a long time.
The Vikings have gone from being an upcoming contender to a soap opera with Brett, Chillie and, now, Randy. It’s not fair to the other players who were trying to build a champion.

  13. Wow, really starting to see a pattern here….
Moss knew he wasn’t getting another contract extension after this year so dejavu….old pouting Randy rears his ugly head….I sure hope the Vikings get his contract done immediatly or look out!!!

  14. New England has obliterated a potential Super Bowl team for some strange sense of something in the future, courtesy of a bunch of draft picks. But without Pioli, their picks have been average at best, which means the dynasty is dead and it ain’t coming back.
Zero SB championships since they caught them cheating. That’s their legacy.

  15. “It’s classic Moss behavior, and he’s smart enough to know that, with trade talks percolating, his behavior would be enough to get the deal done.”
You are giving Moss WAY too much credit.
Smart would be to stick with a QB that is much better than Favre. Smart would be to work hard, show what you got, while making what, $9 million, then hit free agency and pick your next good deal. Smart would be to appear to be a good teammate not a cancer.
Moss is lucky he has talents that are desirable, despite not being smart.

  16. Pats are just cheap b!tches … no taregts to your number one wide out in a contract year is a clear message …
Don’t think any other receiver would have reacted differently. What do you think you will get from Fitzgerald, White, Marshall if they get no targets in a game ….
Randy is playing for a new contract, you are up two TDs and you cannot throw him the ball???
Pats cheapest team in the league …
As long as Randy gets his targets from Favre which I am sure he will get he can show case his talent (perceived or not) and will be content to work for a new contract with the Vikes or any team ….

  17. Wow, if Randy Moss acts that way toward a coach with multiple Super Bowl rings, how much respect do you think he’ll give Brad Childress?
Good luck Vikings, you’ll have your hands full with this guy!

  18. “New England has obliterated a potential Super Bowl team for some strange sense of something in the future, courtesy of a bunch of draft picks.”
    ^^^^^
Potential Super Bowl team? When have you ever seen a Super Bowl team with a defense as inconsistant as NE’s?
    +++++
“Zero SB championships since they caught them cheating. That’s their legacy.”

16-0 regular season ring a bell? But at least you’ve revealed yourself to be a hateful, jeaous, insecure little troll. We’ll take your Patriots commentary with a grain of salt going forward.

  19. so many patriot fans already bashing randy. you would think he would have earned more respect after giving you so much for 3+ years. 50 touchdowns in 52 games, so amazing! and not one negative incident for you the entire time until the pats decided they were going to severely limit his ability to get a big contract. they obviously dont think hes that valuable of an employee so why should he stay in line? the pats will use anyone and trample over anyone in the name of wins and $.
this is moss’s last chance to make money in his career that he gave almost his entire life to. this is a job/career for him and by taking the angle the pats are taking are costing him millions of dollars every week that goes by. he simply acted like that toward mgmt to force their hand, it was a calculated business move and nothing else. you need to think about it in terms of his career and stop judging him.

  20. Somesome, pretty sure the pats just gave big contracts to Brady and Wilfork. try the bucs, they are the epitome of cheap

  21. I have been in full “Randy Moss” mode for 24 hours …… it is painfully obvious that with things “behind the scenes”, this had to happen.
I understand Moss’ desire – no, NEED – for a new contract, both for financial reasons as well as making him feel as appreciated as they made Brady, Wilfork, and others feel.
I understand the Patriots not wanting to give a contract to a guy Moss’ age, despite his current stature as a still-viable Hall of Fame receiver that changed the entire way defenses looked at New England’s offense.
I understand that the Patriots had gotten away from their potent “no-name” offense that had won them three previous Super Bowls, and that in light of the likelyhood of having to lose Moss at the end of this season, they began to move towards an offense less dependant on him, even as Brady tried at appease his buddy with some forced throws that he knew better than to try.
I understand Randy Moss – who had been the consumate professional during his three years here- feeling displeased with this less-important role in the NE offense, both from a “hey, I want to conribute!” mentality as well as a “I won’t get as good a contract anywhere if my numbers go down” attitude of self-interest on Moss’ part.
I understand Moss mis-judged Bob Kraft, Bill Belichick, and even Tom Brady (who basically washed his hands of Moss in Monday night’s game) by behaving badly this year in an attempt to publicly put pressure on the Patriots to offer him a new contract ….. it backfired, and rather than offer a new deal – and make no mistake, Moss wanted to stay here, was happy here, and probably would have taken a team-friendly offer just to STAY here – the Pat’s instead grew more and more comfortable with the idea of doing without him.
And it all came to a head this past week, particularly with the halftime incident and the plane ride home.
I understand all of that, I “get” it…….
and yet, this really sucks that both sides couldn’t have worked out some kind of solution to this. The Pat’s needed to understand Moss’ need for a new contract for both financial and emotional reasons, and recognize how valuable his skills were, and Moss needed to realize that you don’t offer three year deals to 33 year old receivers – even a Hall of Fame caliber one.
Both sides were happy together at one time, and you almost look at this as one of those “how did this marriage go so wrong” situations.
New England will have to relearn how to win without a Ferrari of a receiver like Moss …. they won three Super Bowls without him, remember? Moss will have to learn how to deal with a fading quarterback who won’t be able to use Moss’ skills nearly as well as a Tom Brady can – ironic, because Moss’ numbers this year will still likely suck and he won’t have any better “market value” than he would have if he just stayed in New England.
In the end, both sides will get what they want, but neither side will have what they need …….. a Super Bowl victory fueled in part by one of the best receivers to ever lace up cleats.
This had to happen, I suppose ….. then again, it DIDN’T have to. Sad.
Thanks for three fun years, Randy Moss. It was great watching you and Tom work so well together.

    ————————————————
Spot-on, buttondown! And Favre has already shown that you can walk all over Childress.

  23. Big surprise that after the trade, the Moss disses are filtering out of Boston to make the deity Belichick and the organization look good. Interesting how the local MN papers indicate that the trade talks started before Sunday’s game when Spielman and the Pats personnel guy were scouting a college game — this was in motion before Moss refused to kiss Lord Belichick’s rings on Sunday’s plane ride home.

  24. if the best coach in the league can’t control randy….then what’ll happen when moss has the biggest asskiss in the league as his coach?….well, at least he has favre.

  25. Let me get this straight! Randy Moss becomes a distraction to the team. Somehow this has a familiar ring to it? Has this happened before? Randy acting out because of a contract dispute? Hhhmmmm!!!!!
The Patriots knew what they were getting when they traded for Randy. Now the Vikings want to take another chance on this Prima Donna? Brad, Be careful what you wish for you might get it!

  26. @ Pale face
cheap in terms of not giving him at least the targets … Randy never stops running the routes for you so that Welker and whatever their names are are getting their catches and Brady his time.
It is how business is done in NE and Randy overreacted and thought he could force it and learned the hard way how NE is being run. Ramdy gave you 3 trouble free years at least give him the proper stage to egt a new contract.
When I hear having to “force” the ball to him when you are up by multiple TDs that is nonsense … that is the epidome of cheap … not giving him TDs in garbage time so he can build a contract year resumee is beyond cheap …

  27. “StevieMoi”
    I like it.
But I’m definitely not seeing the next wave of Richard Seymours, Mike Vrabels, Tedy Bruschis, Rodney Harrisons, Willie McGinests, et al.
It’s a good team but nowhere near a great team. By the time the 2011 crop comes to fruition, the rest of the SB vets are shuffling on down the road.

  28. What is in the kool aid that gets these players to buy in to what the Pats are selling? They have a history of getting players to completely change their personality, become mindless Belichick drones, and give their best years to the organization only to be discarded rather than rewarded for their efforts at the end. You’d think at some point players would stop wanting to play there, particularly since they haven’t been able to win anything since Cheatgate. When you listen to Belichick talk it seems like a miracle that he can motivate anyone. He ought to sell tapes of himself speaking as a cure for insomnia.

  29. Yeah, maybe Randy is a prima donna, but how do you “game-plan” without using Moss is beyond me. No targets except for the fake/toss at the end of the half….absurd. And all the Pats fans now say he had to go, they don’t need him. Well, teams no longer need to double cover any of the wideouts, so we’ll see how it all translates. I’ll put my money on the Vikings when they match up in a few weeks…..Just sayin’

  30. Bill must have went to the back of the plane, sat down next to Randy and asked him if he’s ever seen a grown man naked or if he likes gladiator films.

  31. Oh wow! Randy refused to acknowledge the potato sack-wearing belicheat! LOL Sounds like the whole of the Cheatriots are a bunch of assclowns.

  32. Cheapest team in the league?
Brady is the #1 paid QB, Wilfork is the # 1 paid NT, Gostkowski is one of the highest paid kickers. Moss was making 9 million a year. They offered Mankins a contract that would have made him the 3rd highest paid guard in the league. Did you see the contracts they gave to Bodden and Banta-Cain this off season? OR the money they spent on A Thomas a few years ago?
They pay plenty of money, but they wont OVERPAY for players that they think are on the downside of their careers or just not that great. And most of the time they are right

  33. well said RichM, my only disagreement is I believe Randy will have a much better chance to shine in Minnesota than in New England. Brett is dying for a receiver like Moss to throw to and he will get a lot more looks than in new england.
even if he doesnt get big receiving #s, he will turn our offense into one of the best in the league and it will be obvious to every team that he has a huge impact. and i think this will be more obvious in minnesota where they NEED him more than the Pats need him. he is more valuable to minnesota than he is to new england because new england will be able to figure out how to score without him.

  34. I find it funny that you people believe that these athletes are supposed to kiss these coaches butts. People have the nerve to talk about Moss’s ego. There is no ego bigger in sports than Brady and Bellicheat. Of course the media and you people are going to side with the B&B boys. The most hypocritical part is that none of what stay silent and not voice your opinion at your job. You would defend yourself at every turn. Why should and an athlete just bend over and take it. There is no way I would let any man speak to me in a tone my own father would not use. Randy’s problem is he forgot his role as an American athlete. Shut up and do what your coach, media, and fans say.

  35. Newsflash to media & fans: Randy is not your bitch. He is his own man. You might not appreciate the way he rolls, but that is not his problem. He doesn’t have to kiss the ring or ass of anyone. Look at his career stats. Want a role model? Be your own GD role model! He doesn’t get paid to play nice. He gets paid to catch passes & score TDs. You want a skill position player on your team w/ his level of talent that doesn’t demand the ball & just passively sits there like a dog waiting for his master? F that. Hope Mr. Welker enjoys the double coverage & shut down he’s about to receive from opposing Ds. Good luck Belicheat. Respect is a 2 way street. Randy owes NE zippo!

  36. NFL teams treat players like pieces of meat. Good for Randy for not accepting it. Teams have made their beds, now have to deal with unhappy players. This is their only way out of a situation, force a trade.
ALso – why is it that Brett Fraud gets praise for doing this crap year in and year out, yet Randy gets vilified?
Full disclosure, I just traded for Moss on my fantasy team last week. Couldn’t be happier that he is now a Viking. Big Stats with gunner boy heaving it deep!!

  37. Here’s what will happen…
    1) Favre and Moss will take awhile to get on the same page, obviously. Monday night, Randy will take a play or 10 off and Favre will throw one up for grabs (or 2…or 3, if he gets the time to throw). Favre will go off and start bitching upstage Moss in front of the world in week 1 in MN and that will be the start of the funfest…..on national TV, no less.
    2) Favre will get knocked out of the game against the Jets…(or any game thereafter) and T-Jack will come in and will have nowhere near the aim and arm of Favre. Randy will start to upstage TJ and the entire Viking organization (which probably started this morning) and by year’s end, it will be painfully obvious to Viking Nation and the rest of the world that this experiment was another terrible idea from the Land of 10,000 lakes and Governors elected from the pro wrestling ring.
    3) Meanwhile, AP…the best RB in the league, will get even less looks because backwoods Brett is going to make his “supposed” final hurrah all about him. The Vikes keep throwing money at everything but AP….which will have him unhappy and asking for a trade to a warmer climate before too long.
    4) How long until Randy Moss turns that locker room into a sideshow….? I’m betting sooner than later.
    SKOL!!!!

The most pathetic part is that the Vikings organization knows what kind of jagoff Moss is. He started his career there, for the love of god. It’s not like they can feign surprise when Moss undoubtedly “goes Randy” when he realizes Favre’s passing game is as about as effective as Emmit Smith’s grammar skills. I give it three weeks and we’ll see some classic Moss emerge to throw the final shovelful of dirt on this pitiful team that is doing its very best to bury itself alive.
Then again, we are talking about Minnesota. Every year, they talk trash to the Packers and Bears fanbases about how they are the best team ever to set foot on the gridiron, try to justify their empty trophy case by claiming championships don’t matter, whine about how the league hates them, etc, etc, etc. And every year since the inception of their piss-poor franchise, they live up to the expectations of the rest of the league by falling flat on their face. It seems to be masochism runs deep through that team, the fanbase and their incompetent front office. It really is sad, but the NFC North truly wouldn’t be the same without them.

    Wrong…
This is a perfect example of perception vs. reality. The perception is the Patriots have had all bad drafts since Pioli left.
The reality is the Patriots have had two bad drafts 06-07 Pioli was there for those drafts. He wasn’t there for the last three and so far they look pretty good.
Then the HATER argument “zero championships since they caught them cheating” .
So they are 2 minutes away from going 19-0, but they didn’t because a guy that’s not even in the league today makes one of the most amazing catches in Super Bowl history and it was because they had no video of the Giants defence.

Woweee 16-0 huh? Man that and a cup of coffee is way more impressive than my Rams 14-2 regular season record in 2001. You know the yr. we beat your Patsies in Foxboro during the regular season, only to lose to your CHEATriots in the SB? Yeah I’m just glad I’ve lived long enough to see a Patsy fan BRAG about regular season wins, instead of SB rings. How embarrassing for you! Enjoy your coffee Patsy, put some sugar in it so it doesn’t taste so bitter.

  41. belichek is obviously loading the team up for the coach that comes after him and the qb after brady. cause since pioli left…his drafting has been medicore. his running game is non-existant…no pass rush…and no coordinators. rex is now the best coach in the division.

Actually, the drafts have been better since Pioli left, look at the last two.
As far as the running game being non-existant based on what? They rushed for almost 2000 yards last season and over 300 the last two games.
Just because they do it with multiple backs does not mean its nonexistant, you have nothing to back that up with.
And for Rex being the best in the Division, NO…..

  43. LA_Rams_fan,
Sound a little bitter that your team choked in the SB? Or just bitter that LA can’t support a team ?
Please enlighten us on how the Patriots “cheated” in 2001 when Pete Roselle was the Commish ?
After you post your nonsense, maybe with Sam Bradford playing well, you might actually have something written about your team on this site you can comment on.

  44. “that city is a joke”
Actually, New England is a region, not a city, but we get your point. A guy from Buffalo is dissing Boston, an educational, cultural, and sports mecca. That’s a parochial view Mr. Bills9951. You should get out more.
