Joe Theismann named president, owner of UFL’s Florida Tuskers

The United Football League announced today that former Washington Redskins quarterback Joe Theismann is the new president and owner of the Florida Tuskers.

“I am excited about the opportunity and I am excited about the league,” Theismann said in the UFL’s announcement. “This is a venture that I can take from the ground up in a beautiful place in Orlando. I wanted the Orlando-based franchise. I feel like it’s a great place for football fans. This is an opportunity to be a part of a football organization run the way I’d like to see it run.”

The official announcement says that Theismann “purchased ownership in the club” and “will lead the drive to secure additional local ownership in the Tuskers.” There’s no word on how much money Theismann spent or what percentage of the team he owns.

Theismann is now in an interesting position in which he works for the NFL as an NFL Network analyst and also invests in a league that fellow investor Mark Cuban says is “taking on the NFL.”

As we write this, Theismann’s Tuskers are on the field playing the Hartford Colonials in a game broadcast on Versus.
