The best Norv Turner trash talk you'll hear all year

I was only a little surprised when Tony Dungy’s commented about the Chargers’ undisciplined play on Sunday night got some national attention.

Watch what Dungy says; it’s very benign and hard to argue with.

Still, the message was brought to Chargers coach Norv Turner’s attention, and Turner appeared ready with a zinger.  Nothing like a little Norv Turner trash talk.

  1. I’m not a big fan of Norv but I gotta admit he hit Saint Tony with a couple good ones right there.

  2. haha, as much as i can’t stand him or aj smith too much, you gotta love that. i was grinning from ear to ear when i saw peyton throw int after int to cromartie. theres something about watching frankenstein fail that makes a guy chuckle a bit. idk what it is

  3. He kind of dissed him self. I was at the 6 interception game. The only shameful thing is that the colts should have won that game if it werent for a adam vinataeri shank kick.
Norv turner is a mediocre coach.

  4. Can someone pass along the message to NBC that Tony Dungy and Cris Collinsworth are absolutely horrible?

  5. I love Dungy, despite being a Titans fan. He’s a standup guy, from what I can tell, and I have respect for him. But that made me literally LOL.
Just like last week when Fisher responded to the Broncos’ “dirty players” comments by saying maybe they were talking about how often the defense was sacking the QB.

  6. That was a great comeback LOL
Say, why does everyone hate on Collinsworth?? I think he’s pretty good.
And that’s coming from a Gator-hatin’ Tide fan and a Bengals-hatin’ Steelers fan, so it’s definitely objective.

  7. If Saint Tony, now that he’s a “member of the media,” can dish it out he better be able to take it. What Norv said was true, like it or not, like him or not. Next – interview on DP show (blech) for Saint Tony’s response. Then Rodnoid Harrison’s response, then Rich Eisen’s, did I forget Reggie Miller? Oops, wrong sport. Same old tired foursome on like every week.

  8. Boom. Roasted.
Dungy gets the last laugh though…he’s got Norv 1-0 in the only stat that counts: championships.
Norv will be back in Dallas continuing the usual Cowpie trend of “over sell, under deliver” in no time…

  9. I’ve been a Bolts fan forever, but, uhh, Coach Dungy has a ring from this big, important game that his team won.
Norv, guess what? You don’t know how THAT feels.
36 points given away over 5 games via special teams. Norv is basically content with starting every game spotting the other guys 7 points.
SD makes it so hard for fans to cheer for them.

  10. Liked Dungy as a coach but I don’t think he was so good that him handing down life lessons from his cloud of judgment doesn’t seem ridiculous.

  11. Always thought Norv was “milk toast”, even when he coached here. Gotta give him props for a good comeback on Dungey.
Norv, you went up one point in my book, which of course means nothing in the real world.

  12. I can’t wait to hear what St. Dungy has to say about this — if he can remove god’s celestial appendage from his orifice long enough to descend from Mt. Pious, that is.

    ======================================
LOL so, isn’t that Dungys fault for not having Vinataeri ready?

  14. And all of you criticizing Cris, have you ever heard to Gruden ?
He really needs to stop talking about average players as if they are Hall of Famers.

  15. Hate the Turners, but that was classic.
Tony was a great coach, probably a great guy, but he doesn’t get a free ride just because he’s a member of the media now, and he doesn’t get to say what he wants without consequence. If he’s going to judge, he deserves to get stuff thrown back in his face.
On that note, Peyton is no saint either, he’s just smart enough to keep a low profile. He’s a jerk, too, and neither he nor Dungy walk on water.

  16. Norv sucks as a headcoach. I’m glad the chargers haven’t figured it out yet though.
He only knows how to rally the troops when his job is on the line.

  17. Weak. Sounds like someone was up all night thinking of a comeback. Norv is not already fired because the GM fired Marty for his sorry behind. The same GM who is Al Davis to Tomlison’s Marcus Allen. Zing!

  18. How in twenty-something replies, has none of you commentors typed what Turner said? Isn’t that an unwritten rule? I don’t actually want to click on the video… I just want to read what he said. Is that too much to ask?

  19. Tony says “It’s probably how the Chargers feel after they realized that have not won a Super Bowl ever and the only one they’ve ever been to, they got torn apart.”
Norv, win a ring without hanging off Jimmy Johnson’s nuts and then you can talk about a Super Bowl winning HEAD COACH.

  20. So Norvy, are you saying that the Colts losing to your Chargers teams is the same as you losing to the Raiders and Seahawks this year because your team can’t play special teams?
Dungy coached 13 years. He had one losing season, won 10 or more games 10 times. He went to 3 conference championship games and won a Super Bowl. He won 67% of his regular season games.
Norv has coached 12 full years before this year. He’s had 5 losing seasons and won 10 or more games 3 times. He’s went to one conference championship game. He’s won under 50% of his regular season games.
Nice zinger Norvy. And good wins against Dungy in those back to back years in the playoffs. Even with those years, you can’t hold a candle to Dungy as a head coach. I’d go pick on someone who you are actually better than. I dunno, maybe Rich Kotite?

  21. Worst head coach with as many games coached in the history of the NFL.
At one point a year or so ago, Turner could have gone 16-0, and still had a losing record.
World class bumb. Fits that J.A. Smith would have hired him, and retained him.

  22. Yeah Norv, you understand like when you both won the SuperBowl…..oh wait!!! My Bad….Norv sucks as head coach period, combine with your GM and Chargers are heading down the toilet at warp speed !

  23. tony opened his mouth and norv put tony’s foot in tony’s mouth.
    manning got him that ring.

  24. Norv Turner has 2 Superbowl rings as an offensive coordinator.
Tony Dungy has 1 Superbowl ring as Peyton Manning’s assistant.

  25. Why is Dungy seen as such a good coach? Couldn’t win in Tampa, Gruden came in and got it done. He has 1 ring and coached the guy many think is the greatest QB of all time. I’m sure he’s a nice guy but he’s not a great coach.

  26. @ superb owl… Manning got who a ring? As I recall it was Devin Hestor plus the special teams, the defense and the offense that won that SB. Football is a team game. Remember that!

  27. Good for Norv stand up to the all mighty righteous Tony . Didn’t he want to spend more time with his family..butt out of the NFL.

  28. Of course, Norv could have just picked the two playoff games he beat Dungy in.
Either way, credit Dungy for making a statement. He’s a media member now, and he’s being critical of a situation that deserves criticism. The Chargers special teams coverage and blocking has been a joke. The hold was ridiculous, but I’m not sure how you can blame Norv for that one.

  29. Everyone keeps harping on the 6 int game…look into it and see who the wide outs were for Peyton that game and you will understand a little more.

  30. “theres something about watching frankenstein fail that makes a guy chuckle a bit. idk what it is”
It’s like the National Glee that the country experienced when the Cheatriots lost the SuperBowl to the Giants. Since the Cheatriots got caught cheating, they have zero rings. Seems to be a correlation.

  31. as a charger fan and san diego resident . . . I could give 2 sh__s about about what norv has to say about anything. He is the epitome of the existence of racism in the nfl . . . . a douchebag with a losing record whose never gone without a job. Couldn’t take advantage of LT2 . . . and now we have another roster of extreme talent headed for extreme mediocrity.
regardless of how i feel about dungy . . . .norv can’t hold his jock.
you’re a loser norv. everyone has figured that out but you.

  32. Why is Dungy seen as such a good coach? Couldn’t win in Tampa, Gruden came in and got it done. He has 1 ring and coached the guy many think is the greatest QB of all time. I’m sure he’s a nice guy but he’s not a great coach.

He couldn’t win in Tampa? Well let’s see, They would have won against the Rams if it weren’t for the BS call on the reception. Plus all Gruden did was take Dungy’s team that SHOULD have been to the SB the year before.

Wasn’t it Reggie Wayne, Rodney Harrison & Anthony Gonzalez? If I’m correct then that’s a pretty good bunch of recievers. The Cro just dominated is all.

Hasn’t he had enough stuff thrown in/on his face? Like battery acid, ice picks, pitchforks, etc. Dude can’t coach worth a damn, but I loved him in Nighmare on Elm Street.

  35. Yeah sounds good…and good for all the Dungy haters to hear..but fact remains…he built a team in tampa bay and…
    Dungy=1 Ring
    Norv=0 Rings
so bring up all of the individual games you want..Dungy still owns Turner

  36. Harrison’s comments about going on the road made no sense. Whether you travel 40 min or 4 hours by plane you are still playing in the home teams hostile stadium.
The players have to make plays. Tolbert has to hold on to the football and Rivers needs to be able to count to 4.
Still they passed way too much and should have been running the ball on the last series to just set up a short field goal. There is no way either this team should be starting 2-3 every year until the players decide to start playing with urgency. That is on Norv too.
