Roger Goodell confirms Brett Favre will meet with league

During an interview at Notre Dame’s game against Western Michigan, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed that Vikings quarterback Brett Favre would be meeting with the league this week week about the messages and photos he allegedly sent to former Jets employee Jenn Sterger.

Goodell told Alex Flanagan of NBC Sports that the league was still investigating the issue, and he did not specify a time for the meeting during the interview. Flanagan later tweeted that the meeting will take place on Tuesday.

During halftime, Peter King added that the meeting will occur in Minneapolis with Milt Ahlerich, the NFL’s V.P. of security.  King also added that the league has not spoken with Sterger yet.

There was no indication about any potential penalty, which makes sense given that there hasn’t been any contact between the league and Favre.

  1. When this first went down, I thought is was a big deal. Now in hignsight, I see that it is really more of a personal matter. Since Sterger has not pressed any charges, whats the big deal?

  2. When Favre does get suspended, it will have to be announced by at least the Tuesday before the following week’s game. The NFL has given BrINT yet another favor by waiting until after the Packer game, which is the Sunday after this week’s loss to the Cowgirls, before announcing the suspension.
Who would have guessed that Favre’s consecutive starts record would be stopped, not by an injury, but by a brain fart. Its my guess that Jenn Sterger has seen a few dicks in her life but none as big as Farve or as small as Favre’s Little Lorenzo.
Favre was right, nobody should be concerned about his legacy, he seems to have taken care of that all by himself.
1-3, 49 seasons without a Superbowl, the Vikings have to be asking themselves if the $7 million extra they paid to bribe BrINT back is worth it.

  3. – So the “investigation” includes NOT talking to the woman at the center of the whole thing.
    – Favre won’t meet with Goodell in NY, but instead one of his flunkies will go to Minneapolis.
That adds up to “Favre gets a free pass”.

  4. I am going to meet with my girlfriend in 10 minutes. The meeting will take place in our house.

  5. Goodell: Brett, you really got me in a spot here.
    Favre: Yeah, shucks, jeez…aw, shucks.
Goodell: I set a precedent with Roethlisberger, you know. No criminal charges, but it was an egregious situation that had to be dealt with. You are involved here with those in employ of the team.
Favre: Jeez. Aw, shucks. I’m Brett Favre? Gooool-ly! Aw, shucks. I play the game like a little kid, jeez. Aw, shucks.
Goodell: I think we’ve covered as much as we can today. I’ll call you, don’t call me.

  6. Does this mean that Favre and his WR’s will not be able to work on their timing at practice on Tuesday or is that an off day.

  7. Favre: What up Rog?
Rog: Hey Brett, how’s the family?
    Favre : Great, and yours?
Rog: Good. Jens taken care of.Hows the elbow?
Favre: Great, between the elbow, the start in question and the nut shot video, people chilled out . Thanks for the idea.
Rog:Better not say chilled anymore Brett. Well,we need you for playoff ratings. Can I snag one of those Moon Pies?
Favre: It’s my last one dude,no can do.
    Rog:Oh well,take care Brett.

  8. AHAHHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!!!!!
Even if he doesn’t get suspended by GODell, he’s in deep at home.

  9. they wont do anything to this guy, they will give him a slap on the hand.
lets hope its not the hand he uses to hit the send button on his phone !

  10. Of course Sterger hasn’t talked to the league. If, as so many have claimed, she isn’t interested in pursuing a harassment claim, she could settle that in one phone call. But her attorney said she’s going to do what’s in her best interest. Translation: If Brett wants it to go away, he’ll make it worth her while.
When a woman does not want to talk to a man, she either ignores the call when she sees the caller ID or hangs up when she discovers it’s him. But when a woman has multiple conversations with a married man that she records without his knowledge, then she keeps the recordings for two years … a 10-year-old could guess she intends to profit from them in some way.

  11. Great Roger Goodell is going to meet with some one, who cares. I am so sick of this guy, let them play football, shut up and cash your paycheck.

No charges were filed in Roethlisberger’s case either.
How do you feel about that?

  13. I fking knew it. I always had this hunch that the only reason this was brought up for ONE week was the fact that they were playing the Jets. It has become a non-story since then.

  14. Roger: Brett, please tell me that’s not you.
Brett (Sheepish grin and a shrug)
Roger: Oh Good Lord ! :::FACE PALM::::
Bus: G**dam**t Brett, I’ve told you that you can’t just go around sending c**kshots to every chick you run into. You beat ev erything, you know that? Don’t you ever get tired of the doghouse?
Brett: (Sheepish grin & a shrug)
Milt: You know Rog, after this whole Big Ben thing we can’t just let this go.
Rog: We’ll what do ya wanna do? We can’t whack his pee pee, hell, it’s already small enough.
    (Belly laughs around the room)
Brett: I was in the pool, I was in the pool.
Rog: What we got on the bimbo? Brett has she contacted you?
Brett: Naw man, I always contacted her.
Milt: You’re not making this any easier Brett!
Rog: Alright here’s the plan. Contact he bimbo and give 1.5 to 2 mill for hush money. We’ll tell everyone that she would not cooperate with us therefor we have no proof as to what really took place. Find Nimrod here a cell phone without a camera or texting features. Brett, you screw this up for me and I’ll personally remove your arm. You better finish the season and you damn well better make the playoffs. Get me the head of the refs ASAP.
Bus: G**amm*t Brett will ya just go on and retire. You made me a lot of money over the years but your ol tired ass just ain;t worth it no more. I’ve got younger fish to fry. I hope Deanna cleans your clock.
Brett (Sheepish grin & a shrug).

  15. Deb–Not sure, but I think he was talking to her answering machine. WHich makes him even more foolish. If it was him

  16. Hey Jimmy, I’ll put up my house vs your double wide that Brett doesnt see a single minute of suspension time.
Why? Because he is Brett Favre?
No. Because the league has had this “evidence” for over a year and no action was taken then, nor now.
Deadspin runs it publically, (yes, funny enough right before the return to NY) the media runs wild with it, all the while, Jen wants nothing to do with the story.
I wonder why? Probably because the horse has been dead and kicked already.

  17. But when a woman has multiple conversations with a married man that she records without his knowledge, then she keeps the recordings for two years … a 10-year-old could guess she intends to profit from them in some way.
    ——————————-
    1) These were voicemails, not conversations. They were clearly left by Brett Favre. And they clearly were not being returned. You’ve obviously not listened to them.
    2) Until you hear of any evidence whatsoever that Favre’s advances were solicited in any way,……you should probably hold off on the “2 way conversation” angle. The facts at hand do not support your position.

  18. Leaving someone voicemails, sending them text, sending them photos and your actually saying these were recordings without his knowledge?? They don’t just magically float in space… THERE ALL RECORDED! Sending these messages(leaving evidence) was as dumb as NFL players driving drunk when they have a free car service.
Also, whether or not Sterger assists with the NFL is a non issue. The pecker is already out of the pants and Goodell is going to do what ever he wants to do. No criminal or civil charges were filed against Big Ben & he a got 4 game rest so the precident has already been very recently set.

  19. OK Brett, show me little Brett…you know the one you picked the number 4 after…let me compare it to this picture on the internet site…yep you are less than adequate in that area, I think that is punishment enough!

  20. I guess no one outside of Wisconsin knows Brett’s real story which was hushed up when he played here. He was like Babe Ruth or J.F.K., the three amigos (Frank Winters, Mark Churmura, & Brett Favre) owned the nightlife in every strip club from Green Bay to Racine. They all had special rooms in back and people out front to find women to bring back to them. This went on even after he “stopped drinking”. It only ended when “Chewy” (Mark C.) got accused of sex with a fifteen year old (Acquitted) which ruined his political aspirations and broke up the three amigos. So this is old news to us and I don’t care except, this was in the workplace and I would be fired with a bad reference or even jail if I did anything like that at work.

  21. you watch, he’ll get off with a little slap on the hand! Just because he’s Mr. F. I’m so tired of hearing his name. Just go home and patch it up with your family.

  22. @rulz …
He was talking to the machine on one of the recordings, but they were interacting on another. I’m not excusing his behavior, but it’s nauseating to when these women play pattycake with high-profile men, then go public about how they should be pitied and compensated. At least working girls ask for their compensation up front. What’s the punchline of that old joke? Well, now we know what you are–we’re just quibbling over the price.

    ————————————————–
But an accusation was made of sexual assault and an investigation ensued. In this case, the ‘victim’ is not interested in pursuing any action legally or with the league. This is a story because someone leaked it all to Deadspin and they ran with it. At most, she authorized the leak to pressure him for the payout. That’s all she wants, if she wants anything at all. If the VM messages and text pics were really him, anyway…. Sorry if I’m skeptical, but when the person who was ‘victimized’ doesn’t seem to care….
This is kind of like the NCAA and various self-righteous groups that don’t include any members of the various Sioux tribes pressuring the Univ of N Dakota to change its mascot, despite official letters from the tribal councils of the local Sioux tribes supporting the name “Fighting Sioux”. When people who are not involved in a situation like this are creating all the controversy, then I say everyone just shut up and mind your own business.

  24. WTF is Goodell doing at a ND-Western Michigan game? Not exactly a compelling matchup. Long live Favre!!! In his own way, he’s just like the majority of people on this board. And YOU know it.

I thought they were voicemails, not secretly-recorded conversations?

  26. JimmySmith,
But, I thought Brett is washed up? Wouldn’t it actually be a blessing to the Packers to face an NFL QB merely a shadow of what he was last winter???

You must not have heard them either, or not know wat Brett sounds like, because it doesnt sound like Brett at all.
Also, how do you know the calls were not returned?
In all actuality, who knows if there wasnt a yearlong lovefest between the 2?
Its comes down to this: Only 2 people really know by looking at the pics if its Brett. If Brett’s wife saw them and new it was him, she would have booted is ass to the curb already.

  28. FAVRE IS NOT GETTING SUSPENDED! GIVE IT UP HATERS! THIS STORY IS BULLSHIT AND 100% FALSE!
Sheep being lead by fools, lol! So many of you are going to look even worse than you do already. Save some face now, or be known as a sheep the rest of your life. Baaaaaaa!

  29. @Every jumping on me …
Yes, you’re right–my bad. I listened to the voice mails a few days ago, but got it into my head that she’d also recorded a conversation. Chalk it up to too much work and not enough sleep. Apologies.
As I’ve said before, I wouldn’t know about the photos, but it sounds like Favre on the voice mails. Personally, I find them sad. I’m not defending his behavior, but believe it’s between him and his wife. A woman who holds onto this material two years “for laughs” is not a victim no matter what anyone else thinks. And women don’t share this kind of stuff with reporters–on or off the record–if they don’t intend for it to go public and benefit them in some way. That’s not something I find admirable–especially when there’s a wife and family involved.

  30. Yep, Roger needs to apologize for his NOSINESS into this issue. Who cares?
Yeah, every player should be suspended for cheating. Then there would be no football for weeks!
This is between Brett and the wife. It’s not like the first time he’s done it. He did it before they were married! DUH!

  32. @Deb,
Go back on the Steelers board Ms. I Love Ben Rapistberger.
    I’m sure you are such a goody-two-shoes.

  33. Why would anyone want to listen to Brett’s voicemails?……..More like 911 calls……Help, i am hung like a gnat, can you please look at my prepubescent junk and tell me i’m hung…

  34. What do you mean, they haven’t talked to Sterger yet? Talk about dragging their feet. Just watch, nothing will be done just because of who he is. Sickening!!

It’s funny–all I’ve done is say I’m not perfect so I don’t throw stones at other people and that this is between Brett and his wife. I don’t even know RLT, but obviously he was so desperate to take shots at me that he didn’t even notice my position agreed with his. Either that or he was too drunk or stupid to understand my posts.
    @slegeir …
The NFL hasn’t talked to her yet because she won’t meet with them. Her attorney says she’s waiting to decide what’s in her best interest. It sounds like she could be, um, “persuaded” not to talk to them. But if it were true that the material was released with no help from her and she had no interest in pursuing a harassment complaint, she could say that to Goodell in a phone call and the whole thing would be dropped immediately.

  37. Still waiting for someone to come up with proof the voice mails and pics were unwanted and totally unsolicited!
