Sterger, massage therapists drag their feet in Favre investigation

Several of the Sunday pregame shows included reports that former Jets sideline reporter Jenn Sterger has refused to cooperate with the NFL’s investigation regarding Vikings quarterback Brett Favre. More accurately, we’ve learned that she has neither said “yes” nor “no.”

Ditto for the massage therapists whose contact information the Jets reportedly provided to the league. The league has tried to interview them, but they have not yet cooperated. They also have not said they they will not be cooperating.

As a result, the league decided to move forward with an interview of Favre. Ideally, the league would have deferred the interview of Favre until after the women who allegedly received unwanted advances from the veteran quarterback had been interviewed.

The NFL has no way to force them to cooperate, since the women have no current employment relationship with the league and since the situation is not the subject of a pending legal action for which subpoenas could be issued. So if they ultimately choose not to cooperate, the NFL will not be able to discipline Favre -- unless he makes admissions during his upcoming interview that constitute evidence of a violation of the Personal Conduct Policy.
