Josh Alper mentioned Steven Jackson’s franchise record setting performance in our one-liners, but the achievement deserves its own post here as well.
Jackson became the leading rusher in franchise history, passing Eric Dickerson for the top spot. Jackson finished the game with 110 yards against the Bucs on 22 carries, and he now has 7,324 yards for his career.
The Rams have an impressive offensive history going back to their early Los Angeles days under Sid Gillman to Chuck Knox to the Greatest Show on Turf in St. Louis. The mark speaks well for Jackson’s explosiveness and already impressive career resume. He’s on pace for perhaps his best year in this, his seventh season.
Jackson broke the mark in a crushing late loss, which is also somewhat fitting. His career has largely been defined by hard-charging running, no matter how difficult the circumstances are.
“I would have loved to have it with a win,” Jackson said after the game on WXOS-FM via the Belleville News-Democrat. “It’s kind of hard to just enjoy it right now. It was a lot of work that went into becoming the franchise’s leading rusher. I just want a win, man.’'
