Your weekly hot seat rankings

The 49ers latest meltdown appears to put Mike Singletary on the hottest of hot seats.

In today’s PFT Daily, Florio looks at a few other surprising additions and gets on Lovie Smith’s case for the most boneheaded non-challenge of the year.

Brad Childress can at least take solace he hasn’t made this list yet, even if it’s not the craziest idea in the world.

  1. Get rid of that hypocrite coward Singletary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And release that worthless piece of space garbage BUST of a QB, reject.
From 5 Superbowl champs, respected worldwide, envied by all, to a QB who had only his second 300 yard passing game in 6 YEARS IN THE LEAGUE!!!!!!
    Burn the Place Down!!!

  2. 1.) John Fox
    2.) Wade Phillips
    3.) Lovie Smith
    4.) Norv Turner
    5.) Marvin Lewis
    6.) Jack Del Rio
I don’t put Singletary on the hot seat: losing most games by narrow margins with an inept roster (two of the biggest losers are his QBs)… you’re just been irrational on this one. I hope PFT has got something against the guy personally or something because you’re about as wrong as the Redskins winning the Super Bowl.

  3. Cobrala2 – I agree with you to a certain extend.. but its known that when you lose close games, that goes back to the coach.. when you get blown out.. that goes back to the players..
Yes, the niners have probably the worse QBs in the league but that was his decision to stay with those QBs, as a coach you need to be able to evaluate the team.. the way this team just keeps shooting themselves on the foot.. that’s on the coaching staff… lack of discipline…. 11 penalties per game? WTF!?!?

  4. Dead man walkin’: Phillips, Fox, Singletary
Serious trouble: Del Rio, Lewis, McDaniels, Turner, Childress
The seat is hot: Gailey, Mangini, Kubiak, Cable, Coughlin McCarthy, Lovie Smith
Not totally secure: Sparano, Fisher, Schwartz
Pretty secure: Caldwell, Haley, Reid, Morris, Spagnuolo
Totally secure: Ryan, Belichick, Tomlin, Harbaugh, Shanahan, Mike Smith, Payton, Whisenhunt, Carroll

Chan Gailey is totally secure in his coaching seat. There is no possible way that the Buffalo Bills get rid of him after his first season, even if he was to go 0-16. The Bills are re-building, and will be for the next couple of years.

  6. John Fox isnt on the host seat his contract expires. That makes him a free agent coach who is walking away on his own

  7. Brad Childress should be ranked #1
He has a great defense (ranked 2nd in points allowed at week 6)
    He has Adrian Peterson
    He has Randy Moss
    He has Brett Favre
    He has Percy Harvin
and he has a 2-4 record.
    Free Minnesota, Fire Brad Childress
Keep Frazier – don’t give away another Superbowl caliber coach

That’s a funny way to look at it but if a team does not extend a head coach, they do not believe he is capable of getting the team to where they want to be…it is not exactly getting fired but they still don’t want him and won’t pay him.

  9. So if Wade is gone after this year and then Jason has his standard three years, then it’s Suzy Kolber’s turn. Can’t wait!!!

  10. “Not totally secure: Sparano, Fisher, Schwartz”
Schwartz is not going anywhere. He has the Lions playing pretty good football despite the lack of a depth chart. I know they are 1-5 but out of the 5 loses only one(@MIN) we didn’t have a chance to win.
It will take another year or two to complete the rebuild………I hope.

  11. Marvin still has some time left, but he has to get the equipment guy to make sure Chad’s Saturday night AstroGlide is off the Ocho gloves. The defense has stunk it up too. More to shoot at (no Cinci crime pun intended) than just the coach on the Bengals.
otoh, Wade Phillips… why does this guy have a job still?

You clearly have no clue what you’re talking about.
Gailey is in his first year on a rebuilding team.
Kubiak’s team has been leading their division until the bye. He’s pretty secure right now, and four more wins out of the next 10 games would only drop him to “not totally secure”
McCarthy isn’t going to lose his job when his team is playing well, despite a injury-devastated roster
Fisher wouldn’t get fired if he lost every game from here on out – he didn’t last year during the bye week, after an 0-6 start, ending with a 59-0 shutout by NE, that was almost entirely on his shoulders for sticking with Collins (against Bud Adams’ wishes) and staunchly defending the return game as adequate.
Schwartz is in his second year, the team has improved significantly since he got there, and, like Gailey, he’s not getting let go for not winning the division when he was just hired to turn the team around.
Caldwell won’t get canned under any circumstance
Spagnuolo’s position is the same as Schwartz’s
    Same with Haley.
Morris probably gets cut if TB loses out, but I’d agree that he’s pretty safe.
How on earth you think Whisenhunt is totally secure is beyond me. Sure, he has no QB, but he took over a team that had a cinderella story SuperBowl run, and turned them into a team that has everyone wondering how they’ve managed to win half their games.
