Redskins say McNabb is still the starter

After curiously being yanked by the Redskins late in Sunday’s loss to the Lions, Donovan McNabb remains the starter in Washington.

“He felt that with one minute left, [Rex Grossman] gave us the best chance to win,” senior V.P. of public relations Tony Wyllie told us via e-mail. “He was more familiar with the two-minute terminology and offense. McNabb is still the starting quarterback.”

Grossman played last year for Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, when both men received paychecks from the Texans.

Some may be skeptical about that explanation, especially since McNabb hasn’t been playing well this year.  Also, given the manner in which McNabb reacted to a benched two years ago, it may be too late to undo the damage that was done when Donovan was left on the sidelines.

  1. Mcnabb responded by taking The eagles to the NFC championship game.
I think ANY redskins fane would be fine with that.
But of course, PFT only likes to bring up controversies.

  2. Shanahan really shit his pants here — McNabb’s issues were primarily related to the atrocious “protection” he got.
Good work Shanny – real nice. Way to try to pin the blame on McNabb.
Same goes for Snyder who is pretty much like the shittiest fantasy football league owner in every league throughout the country.

  3. HA HA HA HA!!!!!!
Are Eagles fans still wrong about this bum?
    HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!
Welcome to the drama Washington. Next up: a whole lot of passive aggressive statements where he says the right thing then blames someone else. The national media will take the first part and praise him, while the locals will remember the entire statement, bash him and then the national media will bash you for bashing him.
    HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!
    Thank god he is gone!!!!

  4. I can see why the Eagles wanted McNabb out of Philly…HE SUCKS. I’m pretty sure he was trying to lose the game for us, which he successfully did. Why would you throw it into triple coverage to Anthony Armstrong? Even though the Redskins are 4-4, they could/should be a lot worse. It is painful to watch the Redskins

  5. mike shanahan cant win without elway. kyle shanahan cant run an offense without andre johnson. and mcnabb is just bad
    FAIL!

  6. Putting in Rex Grossman speaks volumes about how the Skins feel about McNabb. Aside from losing the first of two against the Skins, the Eagles appear to have been the more savvy team in the trade.

  7. Doesn’t make sense- Rex isn’t the QB to lead you at 0-0, but is your preferred choice down 12? The better explanation would have been “game was over, getting Rex some reps in a throwing situation”. All this did was embarrass McNabb for no good reason and prove the Eagles were right, Redsking wrong.

  8. “Also given the manner in which Mcnabb reacted to a benched? two years ago, it may be too late to undo the damage that was done when Donovan was left on the sidelines”
Not trying to insinuate that my Skins are going to make a serious run, b/c they arent…but he responded to the benching by leading the Eagles to the NFC championship game that season…NBC has to be thrilled with your expert analysis Florio :-/

  9. the best part about this is all the FRAUD Redskins fans who were talking trash are now crawling back under the rock the Cowboys “fans” have been hiding under all year.. hey Chris Cooley, how much of a bonehead move was that McNabb trade now, ya bunch of bums…
    Redskins fans = FAIL!

  10. That was the best comedy show i’ve ever seen. And people called me stupid for starting lions D in fantasy. Taste it foreskins! I’d tell you to cheer for a team 30 miles up 95 but we don’t want your trash. suckkkaaas.

  11. Second rounder and a fourth rounder.
The second coming of A.J. Feeley in the golden fleece drama

  12. You suppose that Andy Reid will offer McNabb a backup role to either Vick or Kolb next year?

  13. Looks like the Redskins got taken to the cleaners in the trade for Jamal Brown * the only the talking heads were touting as the Redskins taking advantage of the Saints*. Looks like the Saints knew what they were doing.
Oh, and what happened to the next ‘all pro’ running back, Torrain? Doesn’t seem like Shanahan is working his magic there either.
The Redskins are medicore, nothing more.

  14. McNabb was not available for comment. He was last seen running back to Andy Reid for comfort.
I feel for you Skin fans. 11 years of that drama is NOT missed in Philadelphia.

  15. He has made bad throws all year. Shanahan putting all the blame on him and not some on that pos line is a joke.

  16. below average team with a below average QB…..boy. the eagles are looking like genuises getting a 2nd rder for this scrub….
smoke and mirrors are over suckas…..should be 0-7 no question as they suck.

  17. fooley…that guy is the biggest overrated piece of crap in the league…..
love it as the beagles can stick it to the 4skins now….reid looks like a genius now too…
eat that weasel boy owner and co…..whoa…whoa…whoa….

  18. listen…if rex grossman gives you the best chance to win – then you are truly DOOMED!!!…”abandon all hope ye who enter here…”

  19. Where John Clayton at now telling all us Eagles fans how we were doomed with McNabb and the Redskins were gonna win the division!!!! Yawn!

  20. I’m a skins fan. The O line did horrible. No hiding for me. Mcnabb got away from plenty of sacks today. That pick he threw with four minutes left when we were up 5 is inexscusable. We should have won this game. HAIL TO THE REDSKINS! THIS IS ONLY YEAR ONE. WE’LL GET BETTER THIS YEAR AND DOWN THE ROAD.

  21. Can we bench the Casey Rabach-led offensive line instead because Ndamakong Suh and the Lions defensive line owned them all game.
Donovan could have done a better job protecting himself by scrambling in the backfield.
Our O-line is so pathetically inconsistent. It’s no surprise why Donovan is playing so poor statistically. It’s no surprise why the Skins are dead-last on 3rd down conversions when every 3rd down there is a penalty or they lost yards on 1st and 2nd downs.
    F*** the offensive line.

  22. Ah, Donnie, we knew ye too much in Philly, and we hardly knew ye in D.C. Where are all the Redskins fans who were crowing several weeks ago about the “stupid” move the Eagles made and the “brilliant” move the Redskins made? Reid has made his share of blunders as Eagles’ coach, sometimes he drives me nuts (granted, a relatively short drive), but he does have a pretty good track record of letting older vets go when it’s time to say bye-bye. Going in today McNabb was the 24th rated passer in the League. This game didn’t do anything to improve on that. That’s about right for this guy. His trajectory has been downward the past few years. You Redskins fans are seeing the maddening McNabb that we watched for so many years in Philly. Throw ’em high. Throw ’em low. Mediocre completion percentage. Overall middle of the pack play. Donnie’s a decent human being, but the train’s left the station on his being a really good, not great, but really good QB. The Redskins were hosed on this trade, and through his poor play you are seeing this hosing being played out on the field.

  23. Redskins offices tomorrow morning: ‘Mike? There’s a Sam and Wilma on line 1. Something about how can you do this to our boy? And also, Donovan on line 2. Something about additional compensation to make up for the benching. Mike? Mike???’

  24. No WAY? you mean the eagles front office put one over on the skins new geniuses??? I can’t believe that not the SKINS!!
benching mcnabb for grossman? what an idiot! Shanahan like gibbs best days are behind him and why does his little punk son gets an OC job in the league?

  25. haaaaaahahahahahahahah rich kotite reborn much?
we all told you over and over MCNABB ISNT THAT GOOD!!! and then a slew of experts pick the redskins to make the playoffs, win the division even! PHILLY MADE A MISTAKE!! OH MY GOD THE REIGN IS OVER!!! then the eagles find a qb or two and go nuts with them and mcnabb…….meh. have fun with your top 16 draft pick yet again, DC. its the least we could do. no, no, we insist. and by the way, sorry if the basement of the NFCE has mold and cobwebs and roaches…were never down there so we just dont care.

  26. did anybody watch this game? there are just a bunch of haters, that post here.
how about that first series? Mcnabb was running for his life, the whole game? shannahan dropped the ball on protection. when Mnabb had time they made positive yards, the team is finally moving in the right direction, the zorn years were hard to watch, this year everybody is hating, why? redskins are much improved, nobody turns it around over night. they have to protect mcnabb or anybody else back there if they are going to win, mcnabb over campbell anyday.

If mcnabb sucks so bad, how did he beat the eagles?
    Hmmmmmmmmmmmm?
    ————————
Yeh. 8 of 19 for 125 yards. McNabb played a great game!

  28. If mcnabb sucks so bad, how did he beat the eagles?
    Hmmmmmmmmmmmm?
Are you serious? The redskins beat the eagles, NOT Mcnabb. He was awful in that game. He sucks!

  29. Yea, McNabb sucks so bad that in 11 years in Philly he led the Eagles to 5 NFC championships, 1 Super Bowl appearance…oh, and btw…6 Pro Bowls. Yea, he’s absolutely awful, nothing like the bum we got rid of him for…that immobile d-bag Kolb and his lollipop arm.

You couldn’t have said it any better

  31. Hey Shanny! We’ll give you Derek Anderson, Max Hall, and an autographed picture of John Elway for McNuggets. As lousy as he’s playing, he’d be a HUGE upgrade in Arizona right now and he lives 10 minutes from team HQ.

    danarchy,
    Are you NUTS???
The Skins won AT Philly. The Skins have already tied last year’s win total. My only regret is that Shanny’s first blunder was a HUGE one in benching McNabb. My only worry is that McNabb won’t resign with the Skins.
You’re also failing to mention that the Eagles would have a better record THIS season if they still had McNabb. The Eagles would not have lost against the Skins if they still had McNabb. The Eagles would be Super Bowl contenders if they they still had McNabb.
As it stands now, the Giants are easily the best team in this division. The Eagles will go no where with Kolb and/or the Dog Killer Guy.

  33. The issues is the same as it was the start of the season, thier O-line sucks!! They knew that last year, which is why they took an O-lineman with such a high pick. And what do they get for it, the same can’t protect a QB. It’s going to be a long year for #5.
