Payton denies that he's hiding Brees injury

Earlier today, we shared a report from Kenny Wilkerson of WIST radio in New Orleans that the Saints are covering up a knee injury to quarterback Drew Brees.

Wilkerson called the report “100 thousand-trillion-million percent accurate.”

Saints coach Sean Payton calls the report 100 thousand-trillion-million percent inaccurate.  (OK, Payton only said “inaccurate,” but he should have added the rest for effect.)

“It’s not right,” Payton said at a Thursday press conference, according to Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com.  (You see how that works, guys?  It’s really not that hard.)  “Completely false,” Payton added.

Fine, but what does anyone expect Payton to say in response to a claim that he’s hiding an injury?  Do we expect him to admit it?

Far more probing is the contention that Brees is practicing without a “brace, sleeve, anything.”

Still, Wilkerson said 100 thousand-million-trillion percent.  Apparently, there’s a chance that 100 thousand-million-trillion percent is something south of 100 percent.

  1. Brees also denied it, which is more telling. Payton is sketchy with injury details, but Brees wouldn’t blatantly lie about it IMO. Like I said in the other thread, guys who are actually allowed to step foot in the Saints’ practice facility, Jeff Duncan and Peter King, both said Brees looks fine to them, drop-kicking field goals today at practice, taking all snaps, not wearing a knee-brace, etc.

  2. Brees did jumping jacks and knee lifts for reporters. Peter King saw him doing drop kicks in practice.
Wilkerson is a known liar, phony, and muckraker (allegedly with substance abuse problems) in the New Orleans media market. Ever since he got fired from WWL, he’s had it out for Payton and the Saints organization. Since they won the Super Bowl, he’s become even more insane about it. You ran with bad info from a totally unhinged source, Florio. Just admit it and move on.

  3. Here’s a quote for you:
“Brees answered questions about his report by doing jumping jacks in front of his locker & laughing. Brees said he was 100 million billion trillion percent sure it would hurt to drop-kick a football with a broken knee. He drop-kicked a ball in practice Thursday, something he does regularly. Brees went on to say that we see him every day & see that he hasn’t worn a knee brace in two games.”

  4. I don’t trust people like Wilkerson who use silly, hyperbolic language such as “100 thousand million trillion percent.”

  5. Still, Wilkerson is a 100 thousand-million-trillion percent pi$$ed off that he’s totally locked out of ANY real Saints news due to his penchant for…well…this sort of crap.

  6. Wilkerson cites an “impeccable source,” and he claims that the information is “100 thousand-trillion-million percent” accurate.

    I smell a math major!

  7. Kenny Wilkerson is a former sideline reporter for the Saints who was fired several years ago. He’s got an axe to grind.

  8. There’s no chance Brees is injured, Payton has just been submitting prescription for Vicodin in Brees’ name. So the reporter is half right, which works out to be about a “hundred-thousand-million” percent.

  9. Where are all of the Viking fans right now that were ripping Payton, everytime there was a post that mentioned the Saints earlier in the year with Vicodin or Katrina? Well, look in the mirror Viking fans and its time to be honest with yourself. While the Saints are too busy working for pole position for the playoffs, the Vikings are trying to figure out when they’re QB will be suspended and retire, coach will be fired, and their team relocated to L.A.?
I think its time for the Viking fans to kiss the fleur de lis on Drew Bress’ azz unless you’d rather kiss his super bowl ring.

  10. Maybe Wilkerson’s source was 100 thousand-trillion-million percent wrong. It happens, ya know. That kind of hyperbole gets you nowhere as a credible reporter. No wonder he got booted off the Saints’ sideline.

  11. Again, don’t trust any info you get from Kenny Wilkerson. How in the hell does this guy still have a job on the radio?

  12. Considering that Wilkerson backtracked on the statement the day after and said Drew would fine, maybe we can bury all this. The audio is available on the WIST website.
Did you know that the Saints were the ones that had him fired from his old job as the Saints beat reporter for WWL radio? He has a big time axe to grind.

  13. Glad to see I’m not the only one still wondering what happened to the chatter of vicodin theft and all that good stuff. Let’s stop talking Favre/Sterger and start talking Payton/narcotics… More interesting and just as overlooked, or possibly “hushed” as the Favre story was at first. Get to work guys.

nobody cares about the Payton vicodin case, now Favre’s manhood parts? That’s a real story. It’s got sex, scandal, and there is photographic evidence.
Don’t worry sir your Falcons will choke just at the right time this year, but please, by all means, get your hopes up 🙂
