Report: Wilf weighed firing Brad Childress on Monday

Florio wrote in his 10-pack this morning that Vikings coach Brad Childress could be an ugly home loss to the Cardinals away from losing his job.

It turns out that Childress almost lost his job on Monday night.

ESPN’s Ed Werder reports that Vikings owner Zygi Wilf was so “irate” after hearing that Childress was dumping Randy Moss (without Wilf’s approval) that Wilf delayed Moss’ placement on waivers. Moss wasn’t officially an ex-Viking until Tuesday because Wilf was weighing whether to keep Moss and boot Childress.

Wilf must have made up his mind by Monday night, when the team allowed Childress to release a statement confirming Moss’ release.

Childress has survived this week, but his handling of Moss looks like it will be his undoing as Vikings head coach. Chilly’s lack of communication skills has seemingly infected his relationship with his players, fellow coaches, and his boss.
