With Stephen Gostkowski hurt, Patriots in need of a kicker

Although Wes Welker filled in admirably when Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski went down with a quad injury Sunday, the news today that Gostkowski is likely to miss a couple weeks means the Patriots plan to bring in another kicker.

Mike Giardi of CSNNE.com reports that Gostkowski’s quad is bad enough that he’ll likely miss a couple weeks, and a source said that New England will bring in a kicker.

There’s no word yet on whether the Patriots have contacted any kickers about coming in for a tryout, but Shayne Graham and Shaun Suisham have been mentioned as candidates.

Gostkowski has shown off his usual strong leg on kickoffs this season, but he’s been inconsistent on field goals, with three misses on 13 attempts and a long of just 43 yards.
