Report: McNabb extension on “faster track”

When Redskins G.M. Bruce Allen said that he expected Donovan McNabb to be in Washington for “several years” earlier this week, it looked like hot air intended at diffusing the current Redskins quarterback controversy.

Another sign the McNabb/Redskins relationship isn’t irrevocably damaged: Josina Anderson of Showtime’s Inside the NFL reports that extension talks between McNabb and the team are on a “faster track.”

She cautions the report by saying a deal is far from guaranteed and that the recent series of stories could derail things. But the contract could get done “sooner than expected.”

Here’s another huge factor that could derail a deal: McNabb’s play and the Redskins record.

If there isn’t improvement from McNabb’s end or the team goes in a tailspin, it simply defies logic to think the Redskins will give him a huge multi-year deal.
