Favre plans to consult with Dr. James Andrews this week

It’s going to be a busy week for Dr. James Andrews.

The famous surgeon is expected to meet with Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford on Monday.  Chad Pennington will probably want to get an MRI looked at after his latest setback, which is expected to end his season.

Andrews’ most famous football client also wants to get checked out.  Brett Favre told ESPN’s Ed Werder that he’d contact Andrews and likely submit an MRI to be evaluated.  Favre reported pain in his shoulder to Werder after the game, and believes it may be related to his biceps injury he suffered in 2008.

Favre wondered if an underthrown pass to Percy Harvin he made could have been affected by the injury, even though he didn’t feel any pain.

As Favre mentioned after the game, the Vikings are  “running out of games,” he said. “At the rate we’re playing, it won’t take but a couple more, and we’ll be out of it.”

When that happens, it seems like Favre has an exit strategy prepared.

  1. Let’s see, a great game by Favre last week and just one Favre post during the week.

This week a bad game by Favre, and, I’m guessing, there will be about 20 posts this week by Florio and company.

Gee, you’d almost think Florio had an “agenda” here, or something ! Nahhhhh, couldn’t be.

  2. Yep, it’s the Favre exit strategy: slip quietly away, blame all your bad decisions on your injuries, and stop caring about your team when the post-season is no longer a possibility.

Ironically, if the Vikings management weren’t so stubborn and braindead they would have had Tarvaris Jackson take over a long time ago and there is no way he would have single-handedly turned the ball over TWENTY-ONE TIMES like Favre has! Yes, Favre has thrown 16 interceptions and lost 5 fumbles.

  3. Wonder if the good doctor can be bribed to find an injury that will send Favre to the PUP list for the rest of the season. That way we could be spared the theatrics week after week.

  4. Do you think Favre reads his own comments the next day and wonders wtf he was thinking? The Yikes are out of it and have been for a few weeks now. They need to start Tavaris and see if they can at least play spoilers cause at this point they’re simply playing the role of doormat.

  5. What a disaster of a season for Favre and the Vikes. Then again he made 20 million. Not really a bad deal for most people. Does anyone know the last time Favre won a big game?

  6. The man is just begging for someone to tell him to shut it down. It’s obvious he has no interest in playing now that the Vikings have no chance at the playoffs. If he walks away he’ll be a quitter, he just wants someone to tell him he can’t play.

  7. One more game against the Packers for old times sake … and then hang it up.

    Sounds like a plan.

  8. “When that happens, it seems like Favre has an exit strategy prepared.”

    —-

I agree with you. So much for Favre leaving the NFL on a high note.

  9. the pain in his shoulder is probably directly related to the Vikings being knocked out of playoff contention on sunday.

  10. And another lame excuse. If he had any character he would give back those million $ checks he cashes every week.

He needs to see a doctor who specializes in the body above the shoulder.

  11. All the string pulling and machinations that ended with Favre going to the Vikings produced one division winner.
Also an almost certain losing season, a team whose chemistry has been destroyed, the end of the head coaches career, an owner who has thrown away millions of dollars, and a franchise that is now most likely to be relocated.
Only one thing left to say….

…we told you so! Packer fans were all over this and other blogs telling Viking fans how badly this would end but instead of listening you jumped on the Favre/Messiah bandwagon, enabling an incompetent coach and self serving HOF’er to ruin your franchise. Now you can visit the Humpty Dump a few more times to Boo your own colors! Nice work, Minnesota.

    Told you so.

  12. Excuse ready to go. He will play and put it all on the line for the Packer game, and win or lose that will be his last game. Andrews will “recommend” that he should shut it down. And thus he will. And then revert back to texting women from his tractor.

  13. What a disaster of a season for Favre and the Vikes. Then again he made 20 million. Not really a bad deal for most people. Does anyone know the last time Favre won a big game?

he won a playoff game last year against the cowboys…thats pretty big

  14. The Excuse Machine is firing on all cylinders after another shoddy showing.

Strange how that ankle seemed just dandy when he was leapin’ into ‘mates arms after lone TD toss.

    F-R-A-U-D.

  15. Favre will play out his streak as long as he’s allowed to. It’s all that’s left. He’s now on a farewell tour and the Vikings will look forward to the next season.

  16. That Favre, he’s a gunslinger out there. See how much fun he’s having? And it’s a miracle he can even walk, let alone throw dozens of backbreaking interceptions. Still the media loves it when he smiles and gives them insight into his daily life, his amazing mindset.

He’s a warrior I tell you. A man above all others.

  17. @ bluestree…. Pack fans didn’t predict crap! Your hate for Vikings and Favre was all you had.Enough with the told you so crap….you also said Favre would throw boatloads of pics last year.

  18. Favre is not the problem. Childress is. Thanks to that idiot we don’t have any receivers. No Moss, Rice, or Berrian, and Harvin was 50%. To all of you who say to start T-Joke…how bout we give him to you and you start him? At least Favre makes the games entertaining. And to all you Packer fans saying “see, I told you so”…well I’m glad we have Favre and hope he comes back next year. All we need is to get rid of Childress and get another receiver.

  19. Really, you guys “told us so”….you really knew the refs would hand the NFCC game to New Orleans like that? And you knew they’d take a touchdown away from us and give you one in Green Bay? Wow you guys are smart; that’s uncanny. Granted we all knew our coach was an idiot – that’s our own fault.

  20. Bet Percy has a headache and/or a sore ankle so he misses practice this week. Friday he’ll be about ready to play. Idiots only tolerate that to happen. Why practice when you get your shot to put some personal #s up on Sunday just like each and every week.

  21. Time to get the FBI involved. Obviously they are cloning James Andrews. No way this guy could be all the places they claim he is. He was in the Georgia locker room during the Auburn game (at least I think it was the Georgia locker room; it was the locker room of some college team, and think his practice is in that area). Hope he has some understudies.

  22. This team and their QB are in a long, slow, molecular burn. Each week it just gets better. Now the Pack rolls into town this week? When this season is over there is just going to be an atomic shadow where the Vikings were.

  23. Hmm looks like my comment didn’t get approved. Too bad Gregg can rip whoever he wants with no basis but he can’t take criticism that has plenty of merit. Tool.

  24. let’s see another bad game by lord favre and another injury! what a shock!I love how they are now making up excuses as to why he sucks, let’s see it must be because his recievers slipped/fell down that he is throwing picks.and my personal favorite is he is getting no protection from his line! funny how these very same things happen to Jay Cutler on a regular basis yet bear fans are told he sucks and is a whiney bitch. look in the mirror viqueen fans so is lord favre!

  25. The constant calls for Favre to retire are just absurd….leave the guy alone and focus on trying to get Randy Moss and T.O. to retire instead…

Didn’t Favre say he was retiring after this season?

Can’t we take the man at his word?

    nevermind…

    ———————————————

Yes, we did. Everything Bluestree wrote was dead-on and I couldn’t have said it better myself. Now, with the Vikings players and team management struggling and looking bad doing it, the simple act of forcing you and your mutual admiration society to STFU is priceless. You got nothin’.

  27. @ stellarperformance (aka Ambrose) Yes, I have learned your whine,Ambrose. We could lose every game and you pukes couldn’t make me STFU! Can’t wait to hear the Packers injury excuses when we crush you Sunday….you know that is YOUR SB

  28. He might also want to have them remove a portion of that ego and donate it to NFL Hall of Fame.

While they’re at it, the team and entire State will need treatment for the pain-in-the-rear he’s caused them for two years.

  29. Let’s see, a great game by Favre last week and just one Favre post during the week.

    ——————–

Favre didn’t have a “great game” last week. He was abysmal for the first 55 minutes…..especially in the red zone. Don’t let the yardage fool you.

You’re an idiot Pervy. Our SB is against a 3-6 non-playoff team? No, we will be in the playoffs, you will not. This is your team’s last game to make a statement and make noise, and either way they won’t be playoff participants. Soooooooo it may be your team’s SB but it definitely is not ours. The Packers have a lot of other teams on the schedule in the regular season that are much more intriguing than the lowly Vikings…

It really isn’t the Packers Super Bowl. They’ve already defeated the Vikings once this year. This is just a chance for the Vikings to even it up and try to find some redemption in a horrible season.

It’s also a chance for the Vikings to finally defeat someone with a winning record. The Vikings 3 wins have come against teams with a combined winning record of 7-20.

The Vikings also have another Super Bowl coming up against the Bears later this year.

    Packers 6-3
    Bears 6-3
    Vikings 3-6

  33. Perv, I gotta give you and Cap’n Marvel credit. At least you guys are here! Where are your comrades, it looks like Majik has jumped ship.

    Any ice yet bud?

Don’t be giving yourself too much credit. As soon as you read “mutual admiration society” you recognized yourself straight-off.

PS…our SB is in Dallas this season. Yours is next week in GB…everybody knows that. No reason to be ashamed. You can keep the tattoo across your back that reads: Maybe Next Year…it won’t ever go out of style.

Are you on the team?? What position do you play?? Are you a coach?? ; ) Either way, should be fun next week. Might be the only one that matters.

  36. stellarperformance??packerrube13 ?? Where are all the first string Packer posters at?? Not that they were any more intelligent, just familiar. Looks like the Pack fans, like their team……are playing with their SCRUBS! LOL

The scrubs that the Vikings lost to the first time. And the same scrubs that may lose to the Vikings a second time.

And, by your admission, if the Vikings win, then they have just beaten a team of scrubs, nothing more.

Buffalo looms large on the Vikings schedule.

  38. I’ve enjoyed watching Favre play through the years, but have nothing against the Packers. And given my team’s lackluster performance last night, I have bigger football concerns than your next game. But can’t help wondering why Packers fans are being so haughty. Favre was hardly an embarrassment to the Vikings last season, and NFL has admitted the Vikings won the meeting between your two teams a couple of weeks ago. So whatever issues he’s having this season, he’s beaten you guys in every meeting since going to the Vikes. You may be built for the future, but it hasn’t taken you anywhere yet.

  39. Go read the Vikings boards, 75% of the posts go something like this:

“I don’t care about the rest of the season, so long as we beat the Packers next week.”

It’s your SuperBowl, in your house, and you are going to get stomped. If the Bears shut you down, I can’t imagine what the likes of Matthews, Woodson, and Nick Collins are going to do.

O-line can’t block, d-line gets no pressure, LB’s suck outside of Greenway, WRs can’t catch, secondary is god awful. So tell me Pervy, how exactly do you see the crushing of GB going down?

The Vikings had a crappy schedule last year and got lucky…a lot. Everyone knew this was coming this year and it’s here, and yet you still are delusional enough to think the Vikings are playing well enough to compete with the Packers. Sorry bud, your team has given up and got embarassed on national TV, again.

HA HA HA you’re back!? Right as I posted that message and hit submit, I knew I was effed. I immediately thought about our argument last week and thought “wow I’m a hypocrite. Crap.”
We are even now. Ha ha

And yeah I can’t wait for Sunday’s game! Its gonna be awesome.

Pervy? I am definitely no scrub. I would hope you realize we all laugh at you and your opinions. You’re that guy that thinks he posts great, savvy, thought-provoking or meaningful messages, but doesn’t realize that no one takes him seriously and makes fun of him non-stop. We only read your posts for comedy relief. You’re an ignorant Viking fan and you get on here and whine and talk big about your team. Funny…. I would think a terrible season would shut you up, but I guess not. Ignorance is bliss, right? You’re that guy Pervy. Enjoy.

  41. I can see this from a Hattiesburg Mile. Favre consults with the Doc, plays last game against the Pack and quits for good.

You are half right. No, I don’t post thought provoking stuff here. Lobotomized Packer fans wouldn’t get any of my advanced football takes. Some around here say I could have taught Lombardi a few things.I save that for my local sports bar. This is my practice for Last Comic Standing, so enjoy the comedy relief!! So,why I laugh at you, feel free to join in Mr.Irrelevant!

  43. Deb,

The NFL never admitted that the Vikings beat the Packers. The NFL admitted that they made a mistake in the game and a person can’t just add points to one score and take them away from another. Who knows what may have happened.

  44. Sorry Perv, Last Comic Standing is for people that are actually funny. You’re looking for the Gong Show.
But sadly, it left us before you did.
However I do highly recommend you use the paper bag over the head schtick, ala the Unknown Comic, my chudly friend.

  45. @packercpa …

I agree with you to a large degree about officiating mistakes, but in this case, I thought they admitted they’d wrongly taken Vikes points off the board. And with the score as close as it was, wouldn’t those points have given the game to the Vikes?

  46. FBI??? Seriously are you drunk?

Go hang out on Facebook and send out some friend requests.

    Good luck.

  47. As a true viking fan, it pains me to see this year continue the way it has. What’s even more painful, is the delusions that other Viking fans and Packer fans continue to go thru. I understand the rivalry, but…C’mon man!!

With that said, it is clear what Lord Favre is doing. He knows that this season is lost, and little remains for him to do. Money isn’t an issue for him, as he robbed the Packers for years. He owns every major record there is to have, and is a sure fire first ballot HOF’er. He has no desire to continue to take the beating he is taking, and in fact, IS setting up his “excuse”.

As for my precious Vikings…..where to start? The second coming of Lord Favre has failed, MISERABLY!!! The defense has gotten old and slow, with no help in the secondary (Glaring need for 10 years). The O-line is a shell of its former self. And the biggest issue? Some say Chilly, some say Favre. Myself, I say it started with poor personnel decisions dating years back. Whoever decided that we were better off with out the likes of Matt Birk, darren Sharper, just to name two, was sorrily mistaken.

If the Vikes were “All-In”, as they say, than where was the help for the secondary, O-line, keeping Chester? Way too many decisions of “staus-quo” for an “All-In” year.

There is GREAT ownership. The Wilf family has paid thru the nose to bring in great talent, but little has been shown on the field to justify those big names, and even bigger salaries.

I am afraid that we will, again, suffer with an off-season of coaching changes, and personnel changes. My only hope with that is that the Wilf family figures out that a true GM is needed, and hires that person. Than that GM can hire the coach to lead us to the promised land (sorry, I will forever continue to hope). Gruden comes to mind.

Until than, I will continue to watch, most likely with great dissappointment, and continue to listen to Packer fans revel in the fact that this team, this year, has already mailed it in.

You have no idea how ironic that is. I tried to show you, but they won’t let me. lmao

  49. @My obsessed fan …

See I’m still the center of your PFT world. Yes, I was kidding, little packer boy. My, aren’t you perceptive.

  50. @truvikingfan; You put your finger on the problem of a lot of teams that underacheive. Fans get obsessed with the need to bring in some “big name” player, somebody who has done great things, but whose current team doesn’t want the screen door to hit him in the rear when free agency comes.
NFL personnel people have a “what have you done for me lately” mindset, and often discard an older player that they feel doesn’t earn his salary, usually guys that they didn’t acquire. Instead, they fall in love with the players they bring in. They fell for them when they looked at them on tape, but once they have them, they don’t see it when they fall short.
The best NFL personnel people strike the right balance between veterans and younger players, they know what they need to draft, and they are cold blooded when it’s time to cut the cord.
The Patriots, Packers, and Steelers fit this mold. They are also have the best records in the era of free agency.
