Young’s maturity issues take center stage with Kerry Collins out

Jeff Fisher has lost his security blanket for a while.

The Titans coach revealed that Kerry Collins could be out “several weeks” because of his ankle injury.  Vince Young has battled an ankle injury of his own, although he looked spry on Sunday after replacing Collins at halftime.

Jay Glazer of FOX reported that Young missed rehab treatments on his ankle during the Titans bye week, although Young disputes that report.   NFL Network’s Mike Lombardi confirmed the report, and went a step further.

“The feeling in the Titans building is that he is extremely unreliable.  His work ethic will need to improve if he is going to turn his career around,” Lombardi wrote.  “Young has not endeared himself to teammates, who know the real story about his work ethic. He did not even try to work out before Sunday’s game, just accepting his number two status.”

Ouch.  In a way, Young’s effort after replacing Collins proves Lombardi’s point.  Young’s numbers weren’t great, but he moved around well and made defenders miss while breaking out a spin move on one rush.   It sure looked like he could have started, but he didn’t.  Why?

Young, who will start on Sunday against the Redskins, has earned a lot of praise for turning his career around.  His play has certainly improved.  It appears he still has to work on some of the same maturity and leadership issues he faced two years back.

  1. Welcome to the Titans Randy Moss!Do you have a QB? You deserve all the bad crap coming your way dumb azzz lol

  2. Look, I don’t pay much attention to the Titans, but I gotta ask: Are they running the two-QB system up there?

It seems every week we get an update on their “new” starter.

  3. What is up with all the talk of V Youngs work ethic, J Russells work ethic, McNabbs work ethic and on and on I could go.

They never seem to go after the white QB work ethic like they do the black QB’s, why is that.

    McNabb Jr.

Young has never done anything to prove he’s even remotely qualified to carry McNabb’s jock.

Ah, geez, put it back in the deck.

  7. @snnyjcbs:
Sure they have. Cutler, Leaf, Favre (when training camp is near), Leinart, Quinn, etc. I noticed you forgot to mention Vick…is that because he recently admitted as much about his early career? The bottom line is simple: the guys you mentioned have a lot of potential and, at times, have failed to live up to that potential due in part to a lack of work ethic…and that directly translates to a lack of leadership and that is a necessary attribute for a quality QB. When all you look for is a potential race issue, you are likely to find it…whether true or not.

  8. it is because it is a job. u r lucky he shows up on time if at all…………….

cut him and all others that r like this to the street.

they can fight dogs for money

Geez, must be racism. What else could it be?

There’s a reason Kerry Collins is still there in Tennessee and the reason is Vince Young.

Terrell Owens was a total racist for questioning McNabb’s work ethic.

  11. oh Always believe what lombardi says. This guy also reported that seymoure would not show up in oakland. He also said that the raiders would not win 1 game this year…
    very bitter man……
He is so gross, I cant look at him in Hi Def
his second chin is always sweaty, its so disturbing

  12. Colt McCoy is 4 games into his NFL career. He’s better already than young and obviously more mature.

Would anyone care to trade Young for McCoy.

    Didn’t think so.

  13. The problem with Vince Young is we’ve all seen his effectiveness as a quarterback – the Titans have won some 2/3rds of his games and through he never puts up monster passing numbers he consistently has delivered. That he half-fasses it in pregame preparation and apparantly is not working to get better makes it all the more infuriating – he NEEDS to start working harder in pregame preparation so he can become better and become a bigger winner.

  14. Yall be careful. Young is a fragile person who might get his feelings hurt and give more fake suicide warnings.

  15. When are the Titans going to admit the draft mistake and focus on getting their QB of the future? Even Al Davis knew it was time to move on from his 1st round QB blunder.

  16. Time for him to get in a drunken fight again. He should take out Jeff Reed that way Pittsburgh will have an easier decision.
