Pat Williams scraps retirement plans

After the 2010 season, Vikings defensive tackle Pat Williams weighed carefully the possibility of retirement. He eventually chose to return, and it sounded like he was planning to play only one more year.

“That’s what I’m thinking,” Pat Williams said in May. “Go win a championship and get out of here.”

He’s now singing a different tune. Per the Associated Press, Williams said Tuesday that he now plans to play “a couple more years.”

Maybe he just realizes that there will be no championship in 2011 for the Vikings.

Either way, an intention to play “a couple more years” means that he likely will eventually have to serve the four-game suspension that arose from his positive test for a banned diuretic that secretly had been added to the over-the-counter weight-loss supplement known as StarCaps.
