Dominic Raiola on Roy Williams: “He’s a frontrunner”

R. Williams

With the Lions and Cowboys facing off this week, we’ve had the chance to revisit Roy Williams’ epic run in Detroit.

We’ve even heard the argument that the Lions didn’t “win” the trade with Dallas because their draft picks didn’t work that well, which is one of the more insane things of all time. It was a terrible trade for Dallas. Just giving Williams the contract he got was a disaster.

Asked to explain some of his struggles in Detroit this week, Williams said it was in part due to a shoddy offensive line. Lions center Dominic Raiola, who was there during Williams’ stay, happily fired back.

“That’s coming from a guy who checked out of here,’' Raiola told Tom Kowalski of MLive.com. “He never wanted to be here. I don’t even think he’s the top receiver in Dallas anymore. If he wants to throw shots, we can throw shots back, too. Pretty much what I’m saying is that Roy’s a frontrunner. If he wants to talk [bleep] about us, that’s what I’m going to give you.’'

Given that opening, Raiola was told that Williams explained his recent lack of production by saying, “Well, I just make the plays when they come to me.”

Raiola wasn’t surprised.

“Sounds about right - ‘It’s not my fault.’ That’s Roy.’'
