As Titans coach Jeff Fisher and owner Bud Adams brace for a showdown that could see Adams forced to choose between quarterback over his coach, both sides have bought more time.

Per Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean, Vince Young has been placed on injured reserve with a thumb injury suffered during Sunday’s loss to the Redskins.

After 2010, it remains to be seen whether Young or Fisher return. The quarterback, a Houston native whom the Titans selected with the third overall pick in the 2006 draft, enters the final year of his contract, which carries a hefty eight-figure price tag. The coach, who led the team when it was still the Houston Oilers, has presided over 267 regular-season games and counting.

Last year, Fisher apparently leaked to Chris Mortensen of ESPN the notion that Adams’ decision to pull rank and put Young in at quarterback after Kerry Collins led the Titans to an 0-6 record constituted a possible breach of Fisher’s contract. Look for more talk like that to emerge, possibly as soon as 7:15 p.m. EST or so on Monday, when Mort and Adam Schefter do their suits-on-bar-stools thing during Monday Night Countdown.
