Redskins sign Macho Harris

The Washington Redskins have made a move to bolster their injury-depleted secondary, signing free agent defensive back Macho Harris.

Rich Campbell of the Free Lance-Star reported the signing this afternoon, and PFT has confirmed it.

Harris was a fifth-round draft pick of the Eagles in 2009, and he was a pleasant surprise early on, earning a spot in the starting lineup for the beginning of the regular season.

But Harris struggled this offseason as he moved around between safety and cornerback, and he was waived just before the start of the 2010 regular season. After two months away, he’s now back in the league and back in the NFC East.

  1. please put him at FS and bench kareem. KM thinks he can knock people out when he really just takes terrible angles and never wraps up. Macho is a hard worker and is a playmaker. He isn’t the fastest player (that’s why he fell in the draft) but he puts himself in position. We need that ability at FS. Reid can’t cover anyone so having him at SS is better. We also need to see what kevin barnes has. Now is the perfect opportunity.

  2. It wasnt really his fault he got cut. It was the outstanding play of Dimitri Patterson that really left no spot for Macho. They moved him to corner before the offseason started but Dimitri started to show his worth and it forced him back to Safety. All the moving around position to position hurt him and really is what kept him making the team.

The Redskins are getting a decent player for nothing.

  3. He was a ball hawk at Virginia Tech. and will make plays on the ball. It tends to get him out of position sometimes bc hes trying to make a play leaving the d suceptable to deep balls. Hes a good tackler when he uses his arms but some times launches at the ball carrier and bounces off them letting them get past him.

  4. Other than the fact that he was replaced by 2 rookies, essentially…no. He wasn’t bad last year, it is a good pickup for the skins…who cant seem to get enough eagles players. cant say i blame them, they are oozing with talent 😉

  5. Haven’t the Skins learned that they can’t build a team from Eagles castoffs? Harris works hard and can make some smart plays but is too small and too slow.

  6. Likes to hit ! A bit reckless but could be a good fit with your other hard hitting DBs. and for a mid season pick up he will surprise a lot of skins fans. Still a fan of DMAC and don’t be surprise if he leads you on a second half run to the playoffs. But I bleed green and I’m on yr 46 for my Lombardi trophy wait. my first post ever here. so I added some extra cheese for my boys . later. oh yea and macho has good hair too :). THX Bald eagle J.

  7. Macho should never have left for the NFL a year early from VaTech. He was a great college DB but that doesn’t transfer to the NFL… everyone is bigger and faster! Starting for the Eagles last season may have come to soon. He didn’t have to work hard for the job… he though he’d just walk in as a Vet this year and the job would be his again. It wasn’t! I believe Macho will show everyone he is worth the opportunity, he will work hard and we’ll see him back with the Skins again next season.

  8. You know with a name as ridiculous as Macho, he’s probably a tough guy, cause you know damn well growin up, dudes challenged him just on his name. But the fact is he was the 21st pick in the 5th round, and this was just one of Joe Banner’s late round draft picks that he doesn’t have to pay much more for, and they acted as if he was great, amazed he fell so far etc. If he was any good, he would be on an NFL team as a special teamer or at the very least, on a practice squad.

he’s ok…don’t understand why no one picked him up sooner.
but he’s not going to turn their season around.

Turn their season around? You act like their the Cowboys are Vikings. I would say at 5-5 they are doing better than expected.
