Week 11 power rankings

The Week 11 games didn’t trigger significant movement in the power rankings.

Which means either that the rankings held form this week, or that we were too lazy to do it right.

There’s only one way to find out which approach we took.

1.  Atlanta Falcons (No. 1; 8-2):  If the Falcons lose to the Packers on Sunday, it’s fairly safe to say that Mike Smith won’t be getting fired.

2.  New York Jets (No.2; 8-2):  Getting lucky against so-so teams isn’t a good sign for the playoffs, when all the so-so team will be watching from home.

3.  New England Patriots (No. 3; 8-2):  The only thing standing between the Pats and a fourth Super Bowl could be a playoff date with the Ravens.

4.  Baltimore Ravens (No. 4; 7-3):  The altercation between quarterback Joe Flacco and receiver Derrick Mason reportedly started when Mason told Flacco to shave . . . his unibrow.

5. Green Bay Packers (No. 5; 7-3):  Even if the Packers don’t win another game, they’ll be handing out rings commemorating their sweep of Brett Favre.

6.  Philadelphia Eagles (No. 6; 7-3):  If Philly’s receivers could catch, the Eagles would have beaten the Giants by 30.

7.  New Orleans Saints (No. 10; 7-3):  Without home games in the playoffs, there will be no repeat.

8.  Pittsburgh Steelers (No. 11; 7-3):  Like last year, the Steelers have plenty of injuries.  Unlike last year, the replacements are stepping up.

9.  New York Giants (No. 7; 6-4):  The Giants need Tiki to call out Tom Coughlin again.

10.  Indianapolis Colts (No. 8; 6-4):  Peyton Manning seems to be wearing his frustration face a lot more often than usual.

11.  Chicago Bears (No. 13; 7-3):  Beat the Eagles, and then we’ll take the Bears seriously.

12.  Kansas City Chiefs (No. 15; 6-4):  With a soft schedule down the stretch, the Chiefs may not have to win the division to make the playoffs.

13. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (No. 18; 7-3):  Anyone who picked the Bucs to win seven of their first 10 should volunteer to take a drug test.

14.  San Diego Chargers (No. 16; 5-5):  One of these years, the Chargers won’t be able to count on starting slowly and making a late run.  But it’s not this year.

15.  Jacksonville Jaguars (No. 19; 6-4):  If the Jaguars make the playoffs, I’ll burn my toupee.

16.  Miami Dolphins (No. 12; 5-5):  Before anyone offers Bill Parcells $5 million a year to fix their franchise, we hope they took a long look at the current state of the Dolphins.

17. Oakland Raiders (No. 9; 5-5):  There you are.  We had looked everywhere.

18.  Tennessee Titans (No. 17; 5-5):  Maybe Jeff Fisher can get Brad Childress to give Vince Young a hug.

19. Cleveland Browns (No. 14; 3-7):  Maybe Mike Holmgren won’t have to leave Cleveland to return to coaching, after all.

20.  Seattle Seahawks (No. 20; 5-5):  Pete Carroll shrugged off Sunday’s loss by reminding himself that the Seahawks need only one more win to become bowl eligible.

21. St. Louis Rams (No. 21; 4-6):  With more wins in the bank than 2008 and 2009 combined, who cares about losing at home to the best team in the league?

22. Washington Redskins (No. 23; 5-5):  Beating Tennessee won’t do much to erase the misery of that Monday night meltdown.

23. Dallas Cowboys (No. 25; 3-7):  The only way the Cowboys will “run the table” is if they move their treadmills to the kitchen.

24. Houston Texans (No. 22; 4-6):  “But we beat the Colts in Week One” may not be enough to keep Gary Kubiak employed.

25.  Buffalo Bills (No. 29; 2-8):  It figures that the Bills would find a way to blow their shot at the first overall pick in the draft in the first year of a rookie wage scale.

26.  San Francisco 49ers (No. 24; 3-7):  And they’re still very much alive for the NFC West crown.

27.  Denver Broncos (No. 26; 3-7):  From 6-0 to 5-15.

28. Minnesota Vikings (No. 27; 3-7):  Chilly, the UFL is calling.

29. Arizona Cardinals (No. 28; 3-7):  The Cards’ best sellout strategy?  “Only [insert] home games left for Larry Fitzgerald in Arizona!”

30.  Detroit Lions (No. 30; 2-8):  Thank you, tryptophan.

31.  Cincinnati Bengals (No. 31; 2-8):  They’re great when down by 20, and as we now know horrible when up by 20.

32.  Carolina Panthers (No. 32; 1-9):  John Fox is crossing off the remaining games like a prisoner with a calendar.

  1. Seriously, power rankings this year mean nothing because there are NO great teams, but several good ones. In fact, on a given week, any of your top 10 could be No. 1. And then the next week that team could lose to Cleveland (N. Orleans, N. England) or get slaughtered by Tennessee (Philadelphia) or lose to the Bungles (Blatimore) or get shut out at home (N.Y. Jets) or whatever. You get the picture.

Somewhere out there, Pete Rozzelle is smiling. He longed for parity and this year, there has never been more parity among the league’s elite because there are no truly elite teams.

  2. In his office, John Fox has a calendar on the wall.
After every game, he crosses off that day.

    TY,
    Your editor

  3. Expect the Buffalo Bills to give the Pittsburgh Steelers trouble with their victory on Sunday…

The Bills have only beaten two of the “crappier” teams this year but that won’t change their Bill-ief in 7th round drafted Ryan Fitzpatrick.

With a little luck going the other way, Buffalo could easily be 6-4 right now instead of 2-8.

    Go Bills!!!

  4. “11. Chicago Bears (No. 13; 7-3): Beat the Eagles, and then we’ll take the Bears seriously.”

Nah. The Bears hate is too strong in you.

    Actually decent rankings.

    Florio 102-58

    kenhawk (some guy) 104-56

  5. Wow. You are positively on CRACK with that Eagles rank.

    1. The offense didn’t play well, and they still beat the best defense in the league by 10 points.

    2. They dismantled the Falcons without Mike Vick, yet the Falcons are #1?

    3. The Jets at #2, who you acknowledge needed all 60 minutes and two miracles to win against the Browns and Texans?

The Eagles should only be behind the Patriots at this point. I think I’m smelling 2004 SB rematch.

  6. Man, it feels absolutely amazing for my Falcons to finally be on top. Us Atlanta always knew what our team was capable of — now it’s time for the rest of the world to find out. GO FALCONS!!!

  7. Atlanta fans**** Sorry, too excited for the Green Bay game to type correctly at this time of day!

  8. I’ll let everyone else hate on the #1 slot….but Baltimore at 4?
They should be down with the Steelers around 7. A blowout of Carolina shouldn’t garner that much respect.

  9. Jets over Green Bay is mind boggling. The Jets have squeked out wins against some poorer teams while the Packers have blown out their last 3 opponents, including a SHUTOUT of the Jets. All this with 11 players on IR.

Shennanigans. Ravens aren’t better either. The Packers defense is better than all the top 5 teams. Their 3 losses have been all by 3 pts and 2 of them in OT.

When the Packers smack the Falcons in the Georgia Dome, they better be #1 next week.

  10. 15. Jacksonville Jaguars (No. 19; 6-4): If the Jaguars make the playoffs, I’ll burn my toupee.

i take this as a personal threat.

  11. Typical Florio remarks about the Bucs. They move up 5 in Florio’s lazy, supposed “Power Rankings”, and as well as the Bucs are doing, Florio still slams them and all the Bucs fans that come out here and read this rag. So sad.

  12. Florio-

Pats and Eagles are playing the best (at home and on the road). Still holding out on Atlanta as No. 1 – they need to prove they can win on the road against a top 5 team (New Orleans wasn’t top 5 when they played earlier in the season).

As for your ignorance regarding the Raiders-Steelers game on Sunday and the horrible direction God-dell and his skirt wearing cronies are taking with the stripes on the field. I have never witnessed worse officiating in the 35+ years I have been an avid fan of the game.

PLEASE get some journalistic cahonas and write about the BS happening in the NFL, starting at the top with God-dell.

As an FYI, I don’t care if the rules state that Seymour can only be fined up to $25k. His smack down is a violation of the personal code of conduct in the league. If he had done it at a bar after the game, he surely would have been suspended, fined more and Roger oh Roger would have met with him personally to size him up for his skirt with velcro flags on the sides.

Get to it Florio. You’re a disgrace if you ignore the plea from several fan bases to start addressing the bullshiite officiating, “personal” conduct policy that should be called the “God-dell Guidelines”, etc. This commissioner has too much power and not enough intelligence nor experience in the game.

    Sorry Roger. You’re a donkey.

  13. I’m still saying the Flacons are not the best team in the league. They got dismantled by the Eagles and their backup QB.

    NFC Power should be:
    Packers
    Eagles
    Falcons
    Bears

The Jets should also in no way be #2. They’re squeaking by mediocre teams. Whats the saying? Good teams handily beat the teams their supposed to? Well, the Jets aren’t handily beating anyone. Not the Lions, or the Browns anyway.

    AFC Power should be:
    Patriots
    Ravens
    Steelers
    Jets

  14. The Jets backed into yet another miraculously fluky win where some mediocre team handed a game to them with stupid plays.

13 more days until they get their comeuppance, in Foxboro

As should anyone who picked the Redskins to win the SB in 2009 during the preseason.

  17. ^ Also Jets should have lost to HOU at home. Way underachieving with their talent.

Steelers shut down ATL wout Ben R.
    Sbe in no particular order.
    PHI
    NE
    GB
    BAL
    PIT

  18. What the Jaguars have done this season just shows you how much the so called “experts” don’t know sh*t and just ride the tails of the new sexy teams year after year. Houston and Dallas were the sexy teams this year.
Granted the Jaguars have a weak secondary, but a pretty good d-line and an offense that is playing damn well. Maybe they make the playoffs, maybe they don’t, but up to this point they’re 6-4 and 1st in AFC South. Way to stick to the “experts” Jags. Florio, ESPN and NFL Network can suck it. B*itches

  19. 7. New Orleans Saints (No. 10; 7-3): Without home games in the playoffs, there will be no repeat.

You do realize that your #1 falcons only beat us bc garrett hartley missed a 29 yard field goal, AND we play them again… so really with all the top teams at 7-3 with plenty of football left to play REALLY what makes you think we wont have home field?…. Florio I usually see your points but now I do see that you just simply want to bash the Saints bc we beat YOUR FLUKE Vikes. We’re finally hitting our stride, we’re getting healthy in the weeks to come, and we’ll beat the falcons in their own back yard for the 2nd straight year. Weither you like it or not…. we’re repeating, and thats the bottom line cuz Drew Brees SAID SO!

  20. I’m tired of the “jets squaking by weak teams nonsense.”

The ravens needed ot to beat the bills at home, only beat the browns by a td, and lost to the bengals.

The patriots lost by 3 tds to the browns and the game really wasn’t even that close. They also only beat the bills by a td. The mighty pats also got beatdown by the jets and if not for an amazing catch by moss then they lose that game by 3 tds as well.

Winning in the nfl is hardly ever a cake walk because of the parity. At the end of the day a win is a win is a win and the jets have more of them than 30 teams in the league

    1. And how many turnovers were in that game? 6 by the Giants. GTFO. Winning by 10 with 6 turnovers isn’t an accomplishment.

    2. You still had a very good QB behind Vick. Kolb isn’t a JaMarcus Russell or some other career backup.

    3. They still won didn’t they? good teams win.

Besides The Eagles almost lost to the Lions, lost to the Redskins, and lost to the Titans.
You also barely beat the 49ers.

You won Against the Colts and Giants, both of whom have had plenty of Wr go down. Your only really great victory was trouncing the Redskins, and with that defense in the Capitol City it’s not hard.

  22. Still not completely buying into the Patriots. They are a good team, but they have big trouble finishing. In games against Cincinnatti, San Diego, Pittsburgh and Indy, I’ve watched good leads dwindle and the Patriots get lucky to hang on because of either missed field goals or turnovers.

Their stats indicated that they are beatable and vulnerable. That young defense still has far to go and I’m not convinced that the offense can overcome penalties or has enough firepower to come from behind.

During the year good teams get better. The Patriots need to get better and learn how to finish opponents when they get the chance. And honestly, until they beat the Jets, they belong behind the Jets.

    NFC Power should be:
    Packers
    Eagles
    Falcons
    Bears

    ————————–

I don’t know about the Packers. What about New Orleans? I frankly thought the Giants were a better team than the Packers. They played the Eagles about as well as anyone could. The Packers are definitely in the conversation. But right now (and I never thought I’d be saying this) the Eagles are playing like the best team in the NFC.

Pending next week’s Pack/Falcons game, I’d say this for the NFC:

    Eagles
    New Orleans
    Falcons
    Packers
    *Bears
    *Bucs

*Note that that I don’t “buy” either of these two teams. In fact, I think the Bears are more overrated than the Bucs. I think the Eagles will dismantle the Bears this week, possibly even Monday-night style.

  24. The New England Patriots have the 6th toughest schedule as per the “2010 NFL Strength of Schedule.” The Jets have 18th toughest schedule, and the Falcons have the 20th toughest schedule. Looking forward, the Pats have already played the toughest stretch of their schedule, with only the Jets and Packers (both at Foxboro) remaining as formidable roadblocks, in my opinion. The December 6 contest with the Jets may turn out to be the game of the year.

At any rate, here’s the way I see the top five (as of now):
    1. Jets (8-2)
    2. Patriots (8-2)
    3. Packers (7-3)
    4. Eagles (7-3)
    5. Falcons (8-2)*

*Despite the fact that the Falcons have a better record than the Eagles and Packers, both those teams would, in my opinion, beat the Falcons convincingly. The Falcons lost to the Eagles 31-17 on October 17.

  25. @ 8man,

Umm, who gives a chit what you aren’t buying, dude? Who are you supposed to be anyway? Bill Parcels? The Pats are pulling out wins against good teams and that’s a bad thing to you.

You call tricking Peyton on defense coverage, making him make a bad throw, and causing him to throw an INT luck?

You have the nerve to mention Pittsburg as a lucky win? Dude, you are joke. I would stop watching football if I were you.

  26. 7. New Orleans Saints (No. 10; 7-3): Without home games in the playoffs, there will be no repeat

    🙁 why??
no, but seriously what makes you think we can’t win away games?

  27. I laugh at the Eagles Fans!! HA HA HA

Well since the Eagles Beat the Falcons, aren’t the Eagles better? NO!

We’ll defintely see this weekend when Cheese? Please!! comes into the Georgia Dome. BTW we are undefeated at home. Eagles remember Green Bay don’t you? They beat you earlier this year. I guess that would make Green bay better than the Eagles if I use your logic.

    GO FALCONS

  28. Who cares about the rankings? This is not college football! The highest ranked NFC West team is #20 and we know someone in that division goes.. give me the rankings in February!

  29. Nice to see IND working toward mediocrity to match their personnel on D. With no running game either they are getting predictably boring.

At least the other team has some balance which makes the 28-26 road losses somewhat entertaining despite Manning flapping his arms around for 60 minutes.

  30. on the eagles comment:

jason avant, normally the best hands on the team, dropped ONE pass in the endzone. if phillys receivers could catch, they would be 7-3 right now. oh wait, they are

    come on now florio

    ——————-

I disagree. We beat you with our backup QB, and did so solidly. The Packers beat us in the first game of the year, knocking Kolb out. If you recall, we nearly came back to win that game with Vick at the helm. There’s no way to tell who is better right now wrt the Packers/Eagles, but we can look at how they are playing. Right now they look pretty even, but with Vick and our receivers giving us a clear edge.

Go ahead and be a fan…your team is good and I love Matt Ryan. The thing is we’re just better. 🙂

  32. I agree that a win is a win this year. Nobody dominates anybody. Giants blow out Cowboys in Dallas and then get it reversed at home. Same is true for many other matchups. Many games are just decided by a late made or missed score or INT.

The top ten look about right, who cares about the order. You can argue if the Bucs or Bears should be in there. We will know after this weekend after they play contenders.

    Go Ravens!!!

    ————

That’s in reference to me? WTF? I was talking about the Jets needing miracles, not the Pats. The Pats are clearly the best team in the AFC right now. Relax, champ.

  34. The Falcons #1 ??

Obviously you didn’t see the game Sunday night between the Colts and the Patriots. Either of those teams would have the Falcons for a light snack.

And BTW the Patriots already beat the Ravens this season. I’m sure BB would bet his favorite hoodie that if Ray Rays team shows up in Foxboro again for a playoff game the results will be different – a lot different.

  35. Aside from the Patriots game at home (which the Jets generally win) who have the JETS beat that is any good? They have won games against Mia, Buf, Minn, Det, Cle , Hou, NE, and Denver. They lost to the better teams they played (Baltimore and GB)

The Patriots lost to the Jets granted, and CLE (horrible loss). But they have won against Cinn, Buf, Mia, Balt, Minn, San D, Pitts, and Indi.

    Who has the better wins?

The San Diego, Pitts, Indi, and Baltimore wins, to me, are worth more than the Jets beating the pats. I guess NE has to beat the Jets at home next week to settle things.

I dont put much into style points either, the pats and jets both win ugly at times.

  36. @tiffpats4eva says:

Hey, hey, hey! Why all the venom? Just stating the obvious. Agreed they got the wins and that’s what matters, but in the long run to be champion you must be able to put a team away. It’s a problem the Patriots have always had. It started in Super Bowl 36 when the Rams came back from 17-3 down. Look at how the Patriots do in big games in the fourth quarter. Need I remind of the Super Bowl against the Giants or the AFC title game against the Colts where they led 21-3? If Samuel can make a catch like Sanders, they go 19-0.

Anyway, they have a big stretch coming up against three very good opponents; the Jets, Packers and Bears. And if they don’t beat the Jets, they don’t win the division. Which of course means no first round bye and no home field advantage.

Now if they do beat the Jets and win the division, and since they beat the Colts, Chargers, Ravens and Steelers, they will likely get home field through out. And we all know how it ends when the AFC title game has to be played in Foxborough.

So if I were you, I’d wait and see how it goes on December 6th before getting too worked up about where they are in some speculative list of who’s the best.

    Lions first though…….

@8man – If the Pats want to win the AFC East, they *HAVE* to beat the Jets.
    ********

Giving their difficulties with sub .500 teams, that shouldn’t be a difficult task.

When do the Jets play a team with an actual winning record?

  38. Eh, 8man is mostly right, the Pats defense is still young and needs to step it up. I wouldn’t call the Steelers game a lucky win, the lead dwindled but the game was never out of the control of the Pats.

Having said that, I do see the Jets as the biggest threat to the Pats right now. They couldn’t beat them earlier in the season when the defense was much shakier, it’s just a question as to whether they’ve improved enough to handle them in week 13 (with the always-potent home field advantage).

Either way, it’s gonna be a great game.

  39. Much of this will come down to the Patriots-Jets game at Gillette Stadium 12 days down the road. Winner gets a first round bye and home field in the playoffs. Loser likely gets the number 5 seed and a trip to San Diego or Indy. Playoff seedings are everything and power ratings are useless.

  40. WEEK 11 POWER GRIPING:

Too high: NYJ, Atl, GB, KC, Jax, Mia, Cle, Sea, Buf

Too low: NE, Phi, Pit, Ind, TB, Oak, Was, SF, Min

Pretty close: Bal, NO, NYG, Chi, SD, StL, Dal, Hou, Ari, Det, Cin

    Perfect: Ten, Den, Car

  41. 3. New England Patriots (No. 3; 8-2): The only thing standing between the Pats and a fourth Super Bowl could be a playoff date with the Ravens.

AHHHH….I believe the Patriots already beat the Ravens. Remember, “they talk a lot for beating us once in 9 years.” And yes Ravens fans, you whooped us in the Playoffs last year but you can’t say much because you guys got beat by 3 TD’s the next week by Indy…LOL…win a Super Bowl or at least get to one and we can talk.

Plus the Moss-less Pats are a different team this year. Tougher and more resilient ah la the 2003-2004 squads.

  42. The pats aren’t that good. Their defense is putrid (30th in the league!). if they can’t stop the jets run game then they won’t win. Just look at their losses. Both the jets and browns ran all over them.

  43. No respect for this supposed Power Rankings anymore. Been watching from the side lines this whole season and last week the rankings were laughable. Putting the Raiders in the Top 10 last week was a serious blow to the credibility of PFT. This week putting Atlanta at #1. LOL. That is actually hilarious.

Used to actually read this and agree with some of the rankings, but have lost all respect for Florio and the rankings here.

  44. Wow ravens haven’t won a superbowl? Dude r u stupid? They won one in 2000. And for everyone sayin how good the pats r? U barely beat Indy…in a game u know 9 outa 10 times manning wouldn’t have thrown that, and it woulda ended in the pats crying bout how the refs screwed them or something. I hope the ravens or jets kick there @$$. in thevplayoffs as normal. I think the power rankings r fine this week. I think people needa relax on saying how good the chargers r…… They haven’t beat one team worth saying. Ik rivers is good, no denying. But saying how they r good. That is a mistake

… and with their worst defense since 1999, check the stats. Who says that the Ravens have to come to Foxboro again? Chances are better for the Ravens winning their division than for the Pats winning theirs.

  46. 11. Chicago Bears (No. 13; 7-3): Beat the Eagles, and then we’ll take the Bears seriously.

So by that logic Falcons, Colts, and Giants should not be taken seriously.

  47. @bucsballer

I know who won the Super Bowl in 2000 bro — I’m referring to everyone on that team NOT named Ray Lewis who have ZERO rings — mainly Terrell Suggs.

As for the Patriots “barely beating Indy”, they were up 31-14 in the 4th quarter. LOL…Peyton was “barely” in the game to begin with! So it works both ways dude. And btw, I’ll take “barely” beating the Colts any day…and we’ve now beaten the Ravens, Chargers, Steelers AND Colts HEAD-TO-HEAD…8-2 is 8-2…deal with it

  48. Pats, Jets, Falcons, Bucs, Bears, Eagles…. PLEASE guys quite ur bickering… When it comes down to it the DEFENDING champs still have to be dethroned. Anyone who says the GW Defense isn’t going to matter come playoff time (where ever we play…but it will be the Superdome) is not only a fool but will have their little hearts broken! When the Champs ride in to ATL all of you bandwagon falcon fans will see what they truly are….PRETENDERS!

Trick plays from Cleveland to beat us!

Missed CHIP shot by our OWN field goal kicker in O.T. in ATL to beat us!

Again missed chip field goals in AZ (and a freak fumble recovery in the endzone) to beat us…..

We’re talking about freak plays costing us our only losses, while ATL has had every bounce go their way…SO FAR! Once that runs out the Falcons will be “who we thought they were.” Saints had good luck last year, but when things didnt go our way, we rebounded with pure talent player and coach wise (e.i. Miami Dolphins game)… the Falcons just dont have…IT! You’ll see!

That worst defense since 1999 is 8-2…and in 4 of their 8 wins, they have been playing prevent due to BIG 4th quarter leads…

Cinci – had 14 pts going into the 4th…finished with 24 (PREVENT)

Chargers – had 6 pts going into the 4th…finished with 20 (PREVENT)

Steelers – had 3 pts going into the 4th…finished with 26 (PREVENT)

Colts – had 14 pts going inot the 4th…finished with 28 (PREVENT)

ALL WINS…8-2 is the only stat that matters

There’s no way to tell who is better right now wrt the Packers/Eagles, but we can look at how they are playing. Right now they look pretty even, but with Vick and our receivers giving us a clear edge.
    ——————

really? Just how clear is it?

First, if we’re awarding an edge, I’d give it to the team that actually owns the tiebreaker.

Second, it’s hard to compare Vick vs Rodgers. Rodgers has 19 passing TD’s to Vick’s 11; 1,000 more passing yards, and almost 100 more completions — while those stats obviously have a lot to do with the disparity in playing time, look at the two stats not affected by that disparity — completion percentage and passing yards per game — rodgers has him in both categories. I’d obviously admit Vick is a great deal more dynamic with his legs, but Rodgers is no slouch either. Vick averages 6.8 YPC and has 5 TD’s. Rodgers averages 5.2 and has 3 TD’s, not bad for a “pocket passer,” and not a tremendous difference. Vick has fumbled 4 times, Rodgers 0 times. The only stat Vick kills Rodgers in right now is INT’s, but then again he kills the entire league in that stat.

As far as the receivers — it’s probably a toss-up. Desean Jackson is a threat on every snap, and you have to love his versatility on special teams.
Jennings and Maclin have very similar numbers. Maclin has 1 more catch and 2 more yards, but Jennings has 2 more TD’s and owns the edge in AVG, YAC, and first downs. Philly is more of a speed team w/ Jackson and Maclin providing two nice deep threats, but the packers WR’s are incredibly consistent and move the chains as well as anyone. Jennings, Jones, Driver, and Nelson, very little drop off with the 2-3-4 guys. While I’d give the edge to Philly in terms of the top 2, I think the Packers are stronger as a complete unit.

I don’t think you can overlook the defensive differences between these two teams either. The Packers allow a league-low 14.6 points a game, having given up only 10 combined points in their last 3 contests. The Eagles allow closer to 23 ppg.

I’m obviously a packers fan and I feel they’re a better team. But, if I was going to give the edge to Philly for any reason, I’d at least look at the numbers and make it the right reason – the running game. LeSean McCoy is a better back than anyone on the packers roster, hands down.

The pats aren’t that good. Their defense is putrid (30th in the league!). if they can’t stop the jets run game then they won’t win. Just look at their losses. Both the jets and browns ran all over them.
    —————–
That was week 2, didnt the Jets beat the Pats in week 2 last year also?

How did that help the Jets in the second game vs. the Pats.

  52. @bucsballer

This is the combined record of the teams the Bucs have beat

    16-44

You probably shouldn’t run your mouth until they beat a team with a record over .500.

  53. I hope the ravens or jets kick there @$$. in thevplayoffs as normal

The Ravens beat the Pats one time in the playoffs, and I cant remember when the Jets beat them in the playoff.

So much for your “as normal”

  54. Flash

Are you banking on sanchez throwing away the game like he did last year? I wouldn’t count on it because 1) sanchez is waaaaaay better than he was last year and 2) the pats defense is way worse.

I can’t wait to watch santonio and braylon tear up your garbage corners

    @bucsballer

And btw, I’ll take “barely” beating the Colts any day…and we’ve now beaten the Ravens, Chargers, Steelers AND Colts HEAD-TO-HEAD…8-2 is 8-2…deal with it
    ————————–

    @patriotinvasion

Those are all 1st or 2nd place teams, all will probably be in the playoffs and they all lost to the Patriots.

Funny how the HATERS leave that part out!

  56. @patriotinvasion:

Well then they need to stop playing the prevent, because it’s making me nuts!

As a Patriots fan I won’t run my mouth until they do these things:
    1. Beat the Jets at home.
    2. Win enough games to clinch a first round bye.
    3. Win enough games to clinch home field throughout the AFC playoffs.
    4. Oh yeah, and beat the Jets at home.

Because at 8-2, and having a schedule where they control their own fate and head-to-head advantage over several division leaders/potential division winners, it’s all there for Patriots. They just have to keep getting better and winning. Eventually they’ll run out of games to play.

If they are good enough to get it done that is. Despite what they have accomplished there is a lot of work to do. Can they? Yes. Will they? I have no idea.

  57. @breeshasabush

Missed CHIP shot by our OWN field goal kicker in O.T. in ATL to beat us!
    ==================================

That game was played in NO, BTW and it doesn’t matter we out hussled the Saints that game.

More First down 25 vs 20
    More Plays 82 vs 56
More total yards 417 vs 398
    lessTurn overs 1 vs 3

But the best of them all

    MORE POINTS 27 vs 24

    WHO DAT WHO DAT
    WE DAT GO FALCONS!!!!!
    and browns and arizona

    ————————————-

No i’m not banking on Sanchez throwing away the game like last year. All i’m saying is these two teams split every year and it will probably be the same again this year.

The Pats pass D is not as bad as the #’s show, alot of those yards have come in garbage time when the teams had to throw( Pitt & Indy)

    And as for “garbage corners”
Apparently you haven’t seen Devin McCourty play.
These are the same “garbage corners” that held Brandon Marshall to 5 catches for 55 yards, the week before he had 10 catches for over 100 yards vs. the Jets.
They also held A. Boldin to 6 catches for 66 yards.
Lets not forget the Patriots have won 25 in a row at home in the regular season, do you really think they are going to let the Jets come in there and beat them?

  59. @patriotinvasion says:

The only number that matters is that you are SECOND in your division and currently just a wild card with a bad defense going on the road the entire playoffs and that is not looking good.
Your regular season wins are no more impressive than anybody elses with a 7-3 and better record.

There are plenty of games to be played and right now … you are SECOND ….

  60. 5. Green Bay Packers (No. 5; 7-3): Even if the Packers don’t win another game, they’ll be handing out rings commemorating their sweep of Brett Favre.
    ________________________________

Come on now, I don’t think it was about beating Favre, as much as it was about beating the Vikings. I don’t GB fans cared when he was with the Jets, I was cheering for him to do well then yet. Its “going to Minny, to stick it to the Pack.” Is what most fans were upset about.

Minnesota and Favre all got what they wished for.

PS G B should be 4 allowing only 10 points in 3 games, and blowing out oppenents while Jets are sneakking by.

  61. How is it that you put Oakland (5-4) in the top 10 (#9) last week and after just 1 loss move them to #17? I mean they got beat by a top 10 team in your view, why not move them down a few spots to #12 or #13 like other teams that you rank in the top then and then get beat the next week by a top 10 team?

Realize your mistake with Oakland uh? Glad you corrected it…

Now, when TB beats Baltimore I would expect that TB will be #4 on this list…but I assume you won’t move them that high. The Bucs will move up to #9 or #10 and Baltimore will move down to #7 or #8…because Baltimore will still clearly be the better team…even in defeat.

WRONG*** being SECOND in the division DOESN’T matter, the playoffs don’t start today!

The defense isn’t as bad as the #’s show

Look at SD, they have the # 1 ranked offence and the # 1 ranked defense and they are 5-5 and IF the playoffs started today they would be out.

The Saints had the 25th ranked D and they were 26th in pass D and won the super bowl, those #’s don’t mean anything.

Yes there 8-2 record is more impressive than anybody elses with a 7-3 and better record, they have beaten more teams with a winning record than any other team.

  63. Using the prevent defense as an excuse for giving up lots of points in a single quarter doesn’t make any sense on any level. Just sayin’…

  64. somesome says:
Your regular season wins are no more impressive than anybody elses with a 7-3 and better record.

Teams with a record of 7-3 with or better with wins vs teams with a .500 record or better

    NE – 5 WINS
    ATL 4 WINS
    NY JETS 2 WINS
    BAL. 3 WINS
    GB 2 WINS
    PHIL- 5 WINS
    NO 3 WINS
    PITT 5 WINS
So yes, there 8-2 record is more imoressive than other teams with a 7-3 record or better

They have played better teams and won the games. well they are better than 4 of the teams they beat Pitt.

  65. No offense bucsballer but you can’t use the “They won in 2000” thing to defend the Ravens then try to say the Patriots will get beat in the playoffs “as usual”. They’ve won 3 super bowls since the Ravens in 2000.

Not that it really matters, the only thing that matters this year is how teams are playing this year, by those standards the Patriots are right up there. The Jets are their main concern right now and assuming the Patriots D keeps improving and with the home field advantage in week 13 I am hopeful that they will handle the Jets nicely.

  66. Also, and I absolutely love thinking about this, worst case scenario for the Pats is this: next year they have 2 picks in each of the first 4 rounds of the draft, so worst case they will come back next year stacked. Admit it, you wish that was your teams worst case scenario.

  67. @flash1283 what is your problem bean counter, are you twelve????

You have to find a stat to show your team is superior???? But dimiss all other stats???? Nobody is dominant, you get pounded by the Browns you demolish the Steeleres, you need three punts in over time to win at home and watch from the sideline against the Bolts to see if the kicker makes it a tied game…. This is how everybody is playing this year.

8 or 7 wins with 7 weeks to play IS THE SAME, not better or worse. But yeah, you are a good boy, you are special, your mommy said so ….

Hey moron, you are the won that brought it up.
Dont get pissy because you ate wrong.
Funny how you bring up the punts in ot vs the Ravens bit leave out the fact that they were down by 10 in the 4th and came back to win.
Then bring up the point that they had to sit on the sidelines and watch bs SD. Didn’t the Jets have to do the same thing bs the lions as they sent out a D Linemen to try an extra point.

And don’t talk about bean counting, when every week you come on here with the same crap, “but there D is ranked 30th”!!!

All you have to do is be a man and give credit when credit is due.

And yes assclown, I am 12. What’s your point?

  69. THESE ARE GOOD RANKINGS! I THINK GB AND PHILA ARE THE 2 BEST TEAMS IN THE NFC RIGHT NOW. AND WHO EVER SAID THE EAGLES WERE TRASHED BY THE TITIANS PHILA WAS UP 10 GONE INTO 4TH Q! THEN KOLB HAD ACOUPLE OF TO AND THAT WAS IT! VICKS NOT TURNING THE BALL OVER!

  70. @ somesome,

The Jets have a good defense? Really?

The Texans 4-5 before playing the Jets almost scored 30 on that supposed great defense of the Jets.

The Texans scored 20 on the Jets in the 4th quarter. Yikes! Where was Revis?

If I were a Jets fan, I wouldn’t criticize the defense on other teams. Your team’s defense sucks.

  72. Wow. I absolutely LOVE all of this hate for the Falcons. Sorry, we’re 8-2 guys. Deal with it. This Sunday’s game against the Packers will truly determine who is the number one team in the NFC . . . GO FALCONS!!!

  73. Week 11 Power Rankings more like Weak 11 Power Rankings. Only took 11 weeks to think of that gem. What up.

  74. I dont hear anything from the GB fans anymore. Maybe they’re at the game still cleaning the eggs off thier faces. GO FALCONS!!!!
