Patriots guard Stephen Neal’s football season is over because of another shoulder injury.

New England placed the powerful right guard on injured reserve. Signed to a two-year deal before this season, it’s worth wondering if Neal will be back with the Patriots. He’s reportedly guaranteed $1 million next season (and $4 million overall), but Neal mentioned he considered retirement after last season.

There’s another matter to consider for Neal: his post-playing career. A NCAA wrestling champion that once defeated Brock Lesnar for a title, Neal has expressed interest in a career in the UFC.

For now, the Patriots will have to make due with Daniel Connolly at right guard. The team has experienced it’s best running success over the last month, primarily since Logan Mankins has returned. Connolly has started the last three games for Neal.
