Vikings quarterback Brett Favre expects to have more tests today on his injured shoulder, as he attempts to determine whether he’ll be able to play again. On Monday night, when his NFL-record streak of consecutive games started was snapped, he said he wasn’t even close to being healthy enough to go.
“Really was not able to do anything this week,” Favre said, per Tom Pelissero of 1500ESPN.com. “That’s not the first time in my career that’s happened, but this really, based on numbness . . . this is something different that I have to be more cautious of.”
Favre said he’s been experiencing numbness since even before the hit from Bills linebacker Arthur Moats caused him to suffer a sprained sternoclavicular joint.
“So, there’s probably some trauma to that nerve and again, that hit last week just kind of aggravated it again,” Favre said.
Favre said he wants to play but won’t until the numbness in his hand goes away.
“There’s a little pain, but that’s subsided some,” Favre said. “It’s this tingling. So, I think it would be foolish to even consider playing if you don’t have total feeling in five fingers. . . . I won’t play again if I can’t feel my hand.”
And so we may have seen Brett Favre play football for the last time.
