Falcons’ Brent Grimes named NFC defensive player of the week

Brent Grimes of the Falcons has quietly gone from undrafted rookie in 2006 to one of the league’s top cornerbacks in 2010. He’s finally starting to get noticed.

After a game in which he had three tackles, an interception and five passes defensed in a 34-18 win at Seattle, Grimes has been named the NFC defensive player of the week.

With Grimes leading the way, the Falcons’ defense held the Seahawks to 143 passing yards and a 41.7 passer rating.

Grimes, who played his college football at Shippensburg University and saw his first professional action with the Hamburg Sea Devils of NFL Europa, leads the NFL this season with 22 passes defensed, and he also has five interceptions.
