Brett Favre unlikely to play Tuesday night

Although the blizzard in Philadelphia gave him two extra days to recover from a concussion, Vikings quarterback Brett Favre is not expected to play Tuesday night against the Eagles.

Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said today that Favre hasn’t passed the neurological tests that all players diagnosed with a concussion must pass before taking the field.

He’s still having trouble with the initial test,” Frazier said, “which leads you to believe it’s going to be very, very difficult (Monday) to do anything other than where he is right now.”

Last week Favre started even after the Vikings said he couldn’t play, so it’s still entirely possible that Favre will play after all. But all indications are that Joe Webb will start for the Vikings.

  1. That’s fine. Webb ill vs. Vick. I have numerous inside sources that see Kyle Orton starting in MN next season. What do you other Viking fans think?

  2. My guess is that Favre couldn’t have passed neurological tests that were administered BEFORE his blow to the head. They should have started after his second annual unretirement.

  3. He will be home, with his feet up, wearing his most comfortable Crocs and taking pictures to celebrate the glorious end to his career.

Oooh, can he blame sexual harassment on concussions sustained in the NFL?

    Potential loophole!

    You’re welcome, Fav-ruh.

  4. Could it be that Favre is playing possum again this week, and that he will pass the test at the last possible moment, and that he will start the game to the sound of a thousand trumpets, and that he will then immediately get knocked on his arse again? Can’t wait, stay tuned.

  5. Let’s see, his QB rating for the season is below 70, he has thrown nearly twice as many INT’s to TD’s, he ranks among the bottom 5 QB’s in the league in the most important categories, so tell me why this is important news again?

I already know the Vikings are paying him a million per game to suck, they are also paying a king’s ransom to Jared Allen not to sack anyone and likewise to McKinnie not to block anyone. Anybody notice a pattern here?

  6. All of you can thank Arthur Moats of the Buffalo Bills for sparing you to watch old man Farve play, he is the one player that could put this guy out of commission.

    Go Bills!!

  7. C’mon, let him play. Favre probably hasn’t been able to pass that test in about a decade in any case.

  8. Does it really matter? The Viking players have to be totally disgusted with this season and especially the last three weeks. I don’t expect them to show up emotionally for this game. Lucky for the Eagles because this is definitely a trap game for them. If Kitna stays unhealthy they’ll be lucky two weeks in a row. Especially if Aaron Rogers plays well against the Bears.

  9. Actually I’d love to see him play…then proceed to being driven head first into the ground to NEVER be heard from again!!!!!

  10. I think most Eagles fans could care less if he plays or not. The Eagles especially since Andy Reid has been the coach have dominated Brett Favre. I dont think anyone was worried that the 2 days off would allow Favre enough time to recover.

I have a problem with it giving Peterson the time to recover. He is a much bigger threat then Favre and has had a good career so far vs the Eagles. There was a chance that Peterson wouldnt have played last night but now its pretty much a certainty that he will. Which gives the Vikings a much better chance to win now that the game has been postponed.

  11. I don’t want Favre to plan, as an Eagle fan, but am not scared either way. With or without Favre, the Vikes are not winning this game. Peterson though recovering doesn’t help.

MN will suck for years to come!!!
Old team, other than AP, who will demand to get the hell out of there within the next few years.

  13. Unless Adrian Peterson can singlehandedly outscore our offense, the Vikes don’t have much of a chance, regardless of who their starting QB is. That being said, I don’t think the Vikes have a chance with Tom Brady as their quarterback.

I hate talking smack prior to a game because we all know in this game anything can happen. But let’s be real here… it’s Michael Vick and the Eagles offense vs an 80% Adrian Peterson and Joe Webb, who at 100% is a 40% Eli.

  14. Grampa’s too old to play in the cold anymore…..he will probably work out a deal with Goodell to push off any word on a suspension, while Favre himself slowly drifts off into obscurity, retirement…….and divorce court.

If Favre suits up, this will be like watching a piranha fish in the tank after you drop in a goldfish for food. May not happen instantly, but it won’t end well.

  15. Jsmith, your comments are so ironic and ignorant! Perhaps the reason Favre’s qb rating is so low is because they can’t block and because the defense can’t get anyone off the field, no? If you’re the brilliant pattern recognizer how do you not recognize the connection between Favre’s horrible numbers and the horrendous play of the rest of the team? When’s the last time Favre had more than 2 seconds to do anything?

  16. Yippee!! That being said, Brint limps out of the locker room, removes a cast from his throwing arm, spits into his palms, and says “coach, I’m good to go.”

Simple, he is still the most popular player in the game and attracts the most viewers. Any more questions?

  18. I can’t believe that eagle fans aren’t outraged at this postponement. You’re playing for the number two spot and now you have wait two more days, giving the Vikings a chance to win and get healthier. Then you have a really short week to finish the season. The NFL needs to butch it up this year.

  19. Yeah, Kyle Orton will send that sorry team over the top, LMAO. Maybe you purple fans need to take some lessons from TT and The Pack about how to draft. You do not see Green Bay trying to get other teams’ castoffs….

  20. I think the vikes should give Favre a two year contract extension worth another 20 million.

    Favre for 2011 and beyond!

  21. deeppurple,

I don’t think anyone is worried about the Vikings right now… but I am a little worried about the Cowboys, coming off a short week, knowing how much they love the smell of our failure. However, they looked horrible against AZ on Christmas, and I am hoping that game style continues. Hopefully they want a better draft pick more than our failure. Probably not though.

Harsh! Even though I have Favre face down on the turf after Wooten’s hit while #54 looks on as my computer wallpaper….Still, I won’t believe he’s not starting until Tuesday night. Love him or hate him, Favre will suit up if at all possible – he’s just that competitive.

I’m curious to see this game. The Vikes have nothing to gain or lose with this game and there’s always some spoilers this time of year. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Go Vikes! Now excuse me while I go scrub myself clean….

What, like that cast off Favre who had us an inch from the SB last season? Was fumbles, not him that cost us…

  24. Pervy, give me a break. What we think is that you about as many “inside sources” on the Vikings as you do at the Kremlin. I’ll give you a couple minutes to look up the Kremlin before anticipating a response.

We’ve seen very little pro football out of Joe Webb so far, who the hell are you to make a call on his capability this early?

  26. Newsflash: Favruh just walked outside and saw his shadow… 6 more years of “will he or won’t he.”

He will start tomorrow night… and next year after a “surprise” announcement after training camp is over. Draw some names from a hat as to which players will fly to Mississippi to beg him back this time…

Just a little note for you you ignorant captain of rhetoric…You’re Packer hero Clay Matthews, you know the big sacking machine, has 13 sacks….that’s a whole 3 more than Jared Allen’s 10 sacks you jack nut. Take a swig of turpentine and STFU.

Brilliant take, the average age on the team is 28. Man that’s old!! That’s mostly because Favre is 41. The only starters on offense that are over 30 are Hutch & Favre. The only starters on defense that are over 30 are Big Pat, Winfield and Leber. Wow!! 5 players over 30….The Vikings are so old!! You’re an idiot.

First doucher, I am a genius. Took one to decipher your terrible grammar. I do have sources.Good ones. You are afraid because Orton played at an All Pro level much of the season. Is getting jobbed for Tebow to come out. Vikings would be stupid not to try him. Oh yah, I seen the Kremlins at the theater when little, was a stupid movie!

Pervy, Dude I like you…the stuff you come up with makes me laugh….BUT please tell me that was a joke….right?

  31. This is who the Vikings have beaten this year…
    Detroit
    Dallas
    Arizona
    Washington
    Buffalo
Combined they are 25-50. This from a team that was in the NFC championship game less than a year ago. Favre or no Favre, this team is a joke…

  32. @ superbowlhomeboy…..if it wasn’t bud, I should be burned at the stake! Just another lame Gremlin joke…

  33. Brett;

You are 41+ years OLD, you’ve been knocked around more this year than probably ever because you skipped training camp and you just can’t do it anymore.

If you call it quits now you might just save what little you have left of your legacy, so please – no final tearful press conference, just get your stuff out of your locker for the last time, ignore the press, just go away.

    Please
