The NFL and the Philadelphia Eagles have been harshly criticized for the decision to move the game that was originally scheduled for Sunday night to Tuesday night, but the Eagles insist they did the right thing.
Eagles President Joe Banner, who was portrayed (along with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie and Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter) as a “wimp” on the front page of Monday’s Philadelphia Daily News, says fans support the decision to push the game back by two days, when fans will have a better chance of getting to the stadium and getting home safely.
“Based on the feedback we got on this decision it is one of the most popular decisions we have ever made,” Banner told ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio.
For ticket holders who would have stayed home Sunday night but will attend the game Tuesday night, the decision was undoubtedly popular. But there have also been plenty of fans who say they could have decided for themselves whether they could get to the game safely, and that they didn’t appreciate the NFL altering their plans this holiday week.
