NFL fines Brett Favre $50,000 for not cooperating

The NFL has fined Brett Favre $50,000 — but in a surprise twist, it has not determined that he violated the league’s personal-conduct policies.

Instead the fine is for refusing to cooperate with the investigation into whether he sexually harassed Jenn Sterger when both worked for the New York Jets.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello has confirmed that the fine is for failure to cooperate, and not for violating league policy.

And so ends this bizarre chapter in Brett Favre’s career — just as the career itself is coming to an end.

  1. Given that he is being fined for failure to cooperate, shouldn’t that also come with an immediate suspension?

Sterger seems to be digging for gold but the league also seems to be less than forthright and honorable in this entire mess.

  2. Good thing he didn’t do anything serious like wear his socks too high.

Months of investigating for a $50K penalty? they probably spent that “investigating.”

  3. Haha…this is the result of legal machinations. The NFL didn’t want to reward Ms. Sideline Ho & Co. with any tangible concession, so it handled the situation ‘ internally’ with a No Decision. Happy Holidays, Brett.

  4. I can already hear the comments from people saying he didn’t cooperate, that automatically makes him guilty. Sorry, not so!

Why put something on record, that could be taken out of context, and later used against him? Why admit to the NFL that he did or did not do anything?

By not cooperating, he puts the ball in the gold diggers court, forces her to show he did anything wrong. We all know that if he did anything wrong, she would have done something YEARS ago!

50K is prob less than the interest Favre makes on the money he has gotten in the last 20 years. Pocket change!

  5. Wow $50,000, that works out to $25k per inch. The “Wrangler Dangler” is such a turd. Lets all hope he finally goes away for good after this season. If he gets hired to do some pre-game type/NFL network show, I will absolutly refuse to watch it.

  6. Awesome non-punishment punishment. Sterger’s lawyers are going to be pissed! The probably would have been slightly okay with a fine for Conduct detrimental to the league, or violating league policy, but not for refusing to cooperate. Now Favre “did nothing wrong.”

  7. Makes perfect sense, he refused to confirm or deny it was his little pecker in the photos. Apparently taking Brad Childress’s word was not enough.

  8. “…so ends this bizarre chapter in Brett Favre’s career — just as the career itself is coming to an end…
God what a moron! I hope to hell the Packers don’t retire Brit’s #4 or put the clown in the PHF.
Let the Queens do all of that. Wasn’t he just voted one of the 50 all-time great Queens?
    What a joke.

  9. Wait a second…He doesn’t cooperate, they slap his wrist with a fine he could wipe his butt with, and then say it’s over? They didn’t even find anything out? This is beyond ridiculous. If he’s not cooperating, logic would dictate that he is trying to hide something. If you were free of guilt, why wouldn’t you try to cooperate?

  10. Dear Mr. Goodell,

Please suspend Favre for the season finale vs Detroit. The Great Joe Webb deserves the start, not Brett “Numbnutts” Favre.

  11. cause he will retire classic white man crime in the nfl … the nfl needs an full make over to thier women fans someone needs to be made an example of… oh wait its michael vick for a dog! oh wrong case …lol get your prorties straight nfl …big ben , brett sexual assualt alleged hmmmmmm but fight a dog and become public enemey # 1

  12. This would be like the cops telling a drunk driver that either they take a breath-analyzer and go to jail for 90 days or pay a $200 fine and walk free….

Why will anyone ever cooperate with an NFL investigation again?

  13. now players know they can send their man junk to chicks jus cooperate wit the investigation and you’ll be ok

  14. I think Sterger is just a gold digger and doesn’t get a penny out of the whole deal. I DO hope though she sues Favre and all the details of this sordid sitiuation comes to light. The fact the NFL is trying to bury the whole thing really hacks me off.

  15. OUTRAGEOUS and COWARDLY of the Commish. “Not cooperating.” The ultimate cave-in — and, hey, what a GREAT precedent to set. Now players can text their junk to women working for the organization and, as long as they “cooperate” afterwards, can get off scott-free (and “get off” otherwise, as well).

    Goodell is an embarrassment.

  16. Hilarious. Ridiculous, but hilarious!

That old man and his lawyer are pretty crafty. Didn’t negotiate to pay her a dime and the whole thing only ends up costing $50k plus fees. Not bad.

The other NFL employee who brought the complaint… errrrrrr… is at the heart of this pile of crap proves… whores are dumb, and their lawyers are reprobates.

  17. I can’t stop laughing What a joke.
Now he can play Sunday. No shame what so ever. What was all the talk that he was cooperating with the nfl. I still can’t stop laffin

  18. The lesson here is:

Keep womanizing, and you will be given a ‘get out of jail free card’.

    Poor Deanna.

  19. Brett Favre, only did what any attorney (of worth) would instruct him or anyone of us to do……….

…….Make NO issue statements until required to do so by law.

GIRL your 15 minutes is up!

Joseph Conway, Jenn’s attorney has another 5-10 minutes or so to whine……

  20. just like the nfl to drag something for that ho to get her 15 min of fame. didn’t she pose for playboy

why do you keep a picture of a penis for so many years unless you are out to get $

so in those terms, she;s a ho
I can;t wait to see her next act on another unsuspecting NFL, I am sure it won’t be in the near future

  21. So, lets see, Farve has to pay 50K and answer to his wife, Sterger, who is a gold digger comes off looking like a gold digger and a slut and the NFL is up 50K. Everyone happy now? Jen, you happy???

  22. Makes perfect sense.

You protect the player and league from the potential lawsuit that could take place following this, without implicating him for wrongdoing.

A fine for a lack of cooperation is much less severe than a determination that he violated the league policy. While such a conclusory determination likely is not getting into evidence, this goes a step further as there is no decision reached either way, which ultimately protects the league the most.

Statute of limitation defenses aside, this gives the league the best chance to prevail on any claim by Sterger

  23. Minn,s defense won yesterday’s game, not Webb. For those saying that Webb gives the vikes a better chance to win are on drugs. Just look at the Giant and bears games. Bikes were well on the way to beating the bears before Favre hot injured. Webb didn’t do so good when he came in.

  24. When informed of his $50,000 fine Favre replied…

“Is that all? I think I might have that much on me”.

  25. kct115 –
I lose a lot of respect for people who don’t now how to spell “a lot”…

AND BTW – you don’t have to sweat not respecting the commish. He is a lawyer. If there was undeniable legal proof that Favre sent the messages AND they were unwanted, do you think he would not have taken proper action?

    He followed the law.

Now.. if Sterger had come forward say 2 YEARS AGO… maybe it would have been different….

  26. Goodell did just what he wanted to do. Nothing. Farve will pay his fine, retire, settle with Ms. Sterger, make up with his wife and make more Wrangler jeans commercials. God bless America! Just one question. Are Roger Goodell and Mark Emmert of the NCAA brothers?

Wow, so now you can sexually harrass someone, get caught, not cooperate, pay a fine and it’s done?

The entire Jets roster just smiled.
    =========================

LOL. And Ryan bought belated Xmas gifts for the staff. Multiple pairs of Jimmy Choo–ooo—oooh baby, can you try them on for me??? please???

  28. At least Favre was smart enough to shut up and say nothing.

I hope he comes back next year, I really do.

Hes a slightly over rated QB, but who cares. I dont want to see him go out like this.

    One more year !!!

  29. What a farce. Goodell is reaching on this one and it seems he is trying to please the idiots that say Favre should be punished. I seem to remember at least one meeting where Goodell himself said that Favre cooperated fully. He would have been better off to just come out and say that there was no determination of sexual harassment and therefore, no fine and no suspension. Some tools would be screaming about that, but they are the same ones that are screaming about this. It all goes away in a week anyway.

  30. Not a Brett fan, but those of you that still think Sterger is a victim are missing the point.

Someone that has been sexually harrassed doesn’t jokingly show her friends the texts, wait 2 1/2 years to report it, and then claim outrage only when faced with your fizzling career.

This is much like the first Roethlisberger accusation You can’t brag about the situation to your friends and then claim you were not a willing participant only after you lose your job.

  31. Failure to cooperate would be grounds for immediate dismissal/termination at any other business in America.

Wouldn’t it be nice if the NFL operated the same way as other businesses. That would have slammed the door on any more comebacks by the primadonna fetishboy-Favre. Goodell would have been doing us all a favor of course the NFL’s favorite son would have been tarnished.

    Perfect response by the NFL.

    Laughing at Jen.

    Ho ho ho!

    —————–

Completely agree; the NFL lawyers played this one perfectly for their – and BrInt’s – purposes…

    LMFAO

  33. You can guarantee there’s money going to Sterger under the table or from the NFl….and Goodell is doing his utmost to sweep this under the rug.

Best part is….I’d bet there’s alot more of the dongslinger pics that will be out before too long.

You can bet there’s going to be a major strain soon to come in a mansion down in Sumrall, MS.

Wow, are you talking about Brett Favre or Ben Roethlisberger?

Interesting–one girl accuses a QB and gets paid and she’s the victim yet another girl accuses a QB and wants to get paid and doesn’t and she’s a gold-digger.

    ^^^

    And we have a winner.

  36. I’m assuming this was the pre arranged negotiated resolution; if not an immediate appeal should follow. If NO appeal, than we’ll know!
Of course should an appeal be filed, within the appropriate time, Farvre will have been paid his FINAl pay check for the season, will formally retire and the commission will lose his jurisdiction over Brett and be unable to collect the fine anyway.

  39. so basically the NFL is saying…dress like a ho, talk like a ho, and act like a ho, means you is a ho…lol Brett just didn’t want to talk about it haha

  40. What a joke…you can text someone a picture of your pecker and thats ok? Not in my book. But I guess if you dont care that someone tortures dogs, then pecker pics arent so bad. Poor Big Ben. He got the shaft in these deals. There needs to be someone else in charge of behavior.

  41. OMG WHAT A SURPRISE!!!!

C’mon people it is after all #4 we’re – or should I say the NFL that they are talking about – or should I say defending.

The league should change their name from the NFL to DSS – as in Double Standard Special.

    Very weak Tea indeed.

Geez I wonder if Favres wife got a nice bog rock out of the deal. The guys image is tarnished forever. Somehow I can’t ever see Brady or Brees acting like he did.

    Classless.

  42. Way to go Brett. You proved that some men just don’t get it. Ya shoulda walked away from the game with some class a few years ago. But no, you thought you were so invincible. Ha Ha. How bout that losing season Brett? How bout that not getting any lovin from Deanna cuz you acted inappropriately with a female Jets employee. Ha Ha. What goes around comes around pal. I have a policy i follow called the, “I will never feel sorry for a millionaire policy”. Now pay your fine cuz you were a bad boy. You may go in the Hall of Fame someday. But right now we all just want you to go away and shut up and keep your hands and sexting to your beautiful wife. And please, just watch football on TV. Please don’t bore us with your retirement antics anymore. Ha Ha. Geaux Saints!

  43. Wow. I didn’t know Favres johnson was stumpy. I never saw the alleged photographs. This is really cool news. I mean, a mans johnson is his johnson. Thats important. And now we learn that Mr football super bowl winner future hall of famer still has his infant johnson. No wonder he’s having all these life decision dilimas. Because the one true REAL dilima in his life is permanent, he has a “not big” johnson. I rather be me. I’m not a football player and i ain’t goin to no stinkng hall of fame and i ain’t rich but, i got a big ole growed up man Johnson! And i’ll take that over anything brett favre ever had or is ever gonna have. Ha Ha. Why would he send the picture to a hottie proving right off the bat he ain’t even a REAL man. Too Funny. Geaux Saints!

  44. Duh! Did you really expect anything more? He’s the No Fun League’s fair haired (grey haired) boy. I’m suprised he got hit with anything! The whole episode (as well as that moron’s last stand) has been a total joke. Shame on the NFL.

  45. cmiller34 ,

Are you equating rape to “sexting”? Are you serious? You are everything that is wrong with the overly political correct America of today.

  46. Okay, here we go. You Suck. I cannot believe that they allow you to write a column. Secondly – You suck. I think it is sad that they allow you to abuse the space between your fingers and the keyboard – we need to breath too! Yea I don’t know where I am going with this but obviously nowhere is a lot further than where you are headed… Did you go to retarded school as a kid? I hope so – at least that way I can understand where your coming from… wow You really shouldn’t be a writer… REALLY

  47. @importantpftcomment …

Of course you couldn’t see it coming. You have the IQ of head lice. But as some of us have posted many times, Goodell is a political animal who does what’s expedient. Despite your braindead ramblings about “Benji” (are you in junior high?) being suspended after being “caught multiple times” for sexual assault (not true, which you’d know if you weren’t completely illiterate in addition to being nauseatingly ignorant), Roethlisberger was suspended–according to the league for poor judgment and alcohol-related issues, not sexual assault. That’s because the evidence (you have heard of evidence, right?) showed he didn’t assault anyone–as authorities in both Nevada and Georgia explained for those who were listening. But Goodell needed to seem to be doing something for womankind to appease the godawfully ignorant masses (that means ignorant people like you). So he suspended Ben for four weeks.

Same thing is happening here. Goodell knows Favre’s behavior doesn’t rise to the level of sexual harassment, but he wants to give the appearance that he’s the Great Disciplinarian and Friend to Women (a target-rich market for the league). So he’s fining him for being uncooperative. Just pop your lil head out of your behind and maybe you’ll figure some of this out.

    ———————————————-

that is basically what the law is stupid. You get pulled over, refuse, go sit in a cell for 4 hours, and then are free to walk, then pay your fines and get a PBJ. Walking free….

  49. @steelersmichele …

Don’t expect anything akin to logic from importantpftcomment (the screen name says it all about her delusions of grandeur). She’s just a nut who harasses other women who dare post on “her” Web site. Think Vikes version of reba.

  50. Joke joke joke joke joke
Goodell joke Goodell Joke Goodell Joke.
this league is going to hell in a hand basket. The more Goodell tries to get the players to stop embarrassing the league the more he embarrasses the league. did the owners really vote this clown in. Was the pool so small that this was the best they could do? I am truly pissed at this.

  51. Let it go. Go play in the snow. Jenn got her 15 minutes of fame. Watch out guys and/or girls stay away from Jenn or ashe will wait 2 years and get you. I was sexually harassed, gender discriminated agains and retalited and I didn’t wait 2 years. Something is totally wrong about a 2 year wait. This is all so sad. Brett Favre is a hillbilly drama queen.
Everybody knows what a lowlife he is
and his legacy will reflect it.

HOF will PASS on him on first ballot / year of eligibility. The NFL’s Pete Rose.

How can we miss you when you won’t go away,

Ha! my post was more intended to point out that the Jets are full of scumbags and now they know they can get away with more things by not cooperating. The Jets are a reflection of their Head Coach and have gotten away with tons of stuff this year.
    1. Let’s put people’s lives in danger by drinking and driving, get caught and then the punishment of being arrested is enough so we’ll let Edwards play the next week. Complete Joke.
    2. Let’s sexually harrass a sideline reporter and act like 6th graders and try to “bump into her”
    3. Let’s trip players running down the sideline
