San Francisco 49ers Jed York is looking for a new General Manager. It’s widely believed in league circles that they are conducting perfunctory interviews aimed at bolstering the decision to give the job to Trent Baalke.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the latest candidate is Michael Lombardi of NFL Network. A team source tells Schefter that Lombardi had an “impressive interview’ and will warrant “strong consideration” for the job.

Lombardi previously has worked for the Raiders, among other teams. His last NFL stint came on an unpaid basis, with the Broncos under former coach Mike Shanahan.

We’ve had some past squabbles with Lombardi, but we’ve also had several positive communications with him privately. He’s competent and well spoken and while there likely are plenty of candidates who have greater qualifications than Baalke, if Lombardi is the only one the Niners interview, then Lombardi could end up getting the job.
