In August, there were rumors that Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew underwent arthroscopic knee surgery. The rumors were loudly denied by Jones-Drew’s agent and his head coach.
But while the injury Jones-Drew suffered in the preseason didn’t result in surgery then, it’s reportedly resulting in surgery now.
Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union reports that Jones-Drew will have arthroscopic surgery to repair the meniscus he injured during the preseason.
Jones-Drew was able to play with the injury for 14 regular-season games, heating up considerably after a slow start and ranking second in the league in rushing before the injury knocked him out of the team’s 15th and 16th games.
“They told him going into this year that knee may not hold up,” offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter said, per Ganguli. “It’s really pretty remarkable that he put up the numbers that he did and ran the way he did for as long he did.”
Even more remarkable is the fact that the Jaguars didn’t disclose that Jones-Drew had knee injury until Week 15, when he missed practice time in advance of the AFC South showdown with the Colts.
