Niners interviewing Rick Mueller for G.M. job

The “gut” of 49ers owner Jed York continues to direct him toward G.M. candidates who currently aren’t working for other NFL teams.

Per a league source, UFL executive Rick Mueller is interviewing for the job.  The team’s potential interest in Mueller was recently reported by Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee.  Mueller’s most recent experience in the NFL came with the Saints.

Mueller joins Tony Softli, Michael Lombardi, and Ted Sundquist as former NFL execs who have interviewed for the job that many believe will be given to V.P. of player personnel Trent Baalke.

It remains to be seen whether York will try to interview men who currently work for NFL teams, once their respective teams’ seasons end.  If he doesn’t and if he hires Baalke, it will confirm the suspicions of many that Baalke was the pre-ordained pick for the job.

  1. Totally unimpressed with the process the Niners are using…seems like more of the same lack of direction we’ve seen over the past 8+ years. I’ll give young Jed until the end of the 2013 season to get this straightened out…or the fanbase should start screaming for him to sell to an ownership group led by Steve Young or anyone willing to revive the franchise to state it deserves.

  2. @gypjet;

    Too funny. True, too. If the Niners were to hire Millen, I’d…….I’d…..well, I don’t know what I’d do. Become a Raiders fan? No, not that bad. But close.

  3. Its time to wait and see. The endless speculation & fan teeth gnashing has been funnier than the “media” reports which are contradictory, to say the least

  4. Rick Mueller?? Are you kidding me?? The York’s should check out the High School ranks for an AD who needs to make a little extra cash. I can’t believe the retreads whose names come up when a job opens. It’s like Rent-a Wreck!!
