Jim Washburn could be leaving for Philadelphia

One of the best position coaches in the NFL could be changing addresses.

Titans coach Jeff Fisher confirmed to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean that vaunted Titans defensive line coach Jim Washburn has spoken to the Eagles about accepting a position there.

“We are in the middle of it and going back and forth,” Fisher said.  “I would think we’d find out in the next day or so.’’

The Eagles have their defensive coordinator and defensive line positions open.   We suspect Washburn would be speaking to Andy Reid about the line coach job, since Washburn has never shown the desire to be a coordinator in the past.

In his 12 seasons, Washburn is known for helping make a lot of guys rich and play their best football.  Jevon Kearse, Albert Haynesworth, Kyle Vanden Bosch, Jason Babin, and Antwan Odom are some of Washburn’s prize pupils over the years.

  1. YES! It is about time they get someone to coach these guys that they spend their draft picks on. No D-Lineman has gotten better in Philadelphia under this regime. Both of their D-tackles are 1st rounders and had decent rookie years and have gotten no better. Great news for Patterson, Bunkley and Graham

  2. Wash, I’ll pitch in some money to bring you to Philly! This is exactly the guy we need!

Now my dreams are up real high, so don’t mess it up big Red – get this guy a contract!

  3. All I know is that this guy takes turds and turns em into Diamonds…

His line this year were nobodys, but he had them playing at a mean level for the first couple months.

Great if the Eagles get him

  4. Exciting news. Hopefully it pans out. With his coaching the current roster might improve enough to allow the Eagles to address other needs in the draft.

  5. This guy is a real difference maker as a position coach. He gets the most out his players every year. Only downfall is after his players perform above expectations they get monster FA offers and leave when eligible for FA. Look at Haynesworth. Also I hope he doesnt try to lobby to bring Haynesworth to Philly.

  6. Its about time. Lets hope Andy doesn’t change his mind and promote the assistant to the assistant ticket manager to Def line coach
