Tom Brady to have surgery to repair stress fracture in foot

AP

If the notion that Tom Brady played on Sunday with a foot injury is being floated as an excuse for the loss to the Jets, Brady is willing to go to extremes to sell it.

Shira Springer and Monique Walker of the Boston Globe report that Brady will have surgery as soon as Thursday to repair a stress fracture in his foot.

The existence of the stress fracture was first reported by Tom Curran of Comcast SportsNet New England.

Per the report, the surgery could be pushed to Monday, but no later than that.

Brady last had surgery in 2008 to repair a torn ACL.  The procedure resulted in a staph infection.  He also had surgery several years ago to repair a sports hernia after the season ended.

Maybe, then, all those primal screams from Brady this season were simply the result of pain in his foot.

  1. Gisele is tired of these football procedures. She is waiting for his penis enlargement to go through…

  2. If you’re healthy enough to play, then there is no excuses. If the injury hindered his performance, he should have sat.

    There’s no pleasing you jacka$$es.

Not once has Brady used this as an excuse this season, including this past Sunday. As Tom E. Curran – the best, most unbiased Patriots writer in the country – has said, the problem Sunday was above Brady’s neck, not in his foot.

And aec4, I suppose the same could be said for Brett “I don’t know what’s going to fall off first; my shoulder, elbow, or double fractured foot” Favre, Mark Sanchez, and Ben “Hanging together with baling wire” Roethlisberger, right?

  4. Let the excuses for Brady choking begin. It’s funny though, of course it doesn’t come out until now, after the Patriots were beat. The best part is, Ben Roethlisberger has been playing with the same injury since November, and he’s still winning. Just give Brady a skirt already!

  5. Tom’s partner Gisele is certainly no foot fetishist.
“Bah, they can cut it off for all I care. It chust smells up ze bed and it is scratching my ankles terribly, all the time. Cut zem both off! Please”.

  6. Are you really suggesting Brady is getting this done now just to “sell” the bad foot as an excuse for the playoff loss. Didn’t you learn anything from the A. Rodgers mess(nowhere near as bad but I see a pattern here). I’m not a Brady fan but I know he is not making excuses and it only makes sense to have anything done to the foot now instead of later. PS – the Ryan foot jokes are old and lame people.

  7. The way this story is written implies that Brady is making excuses for his performance on Sunday. Every interview given by Brady, other Patriot players, the coach and even the owner clearly states that they were outplayed by the Jets. No excuses were made.

He withdrew from the pro bowl because he’s having surgery tomorrow, that’s how this story got out. i don’t believe anyone is floating it as an excuse for poor play.

Hey how about you show us any place where the patriots or brady is using this as an excuse.?

  9. Brady’s the new Farvre only Farvre leaked all his drama queen cry baby excuses before the games — You know I’ve had a ton of respect for Brady over the years but I’m definitely loosing it quickly —- Poor guy — I guess he’ll have to head back to his Mega Castle in California recuperate in his Ten thousand square foot bedroom

  10. I’m sure the illogical Pats fans out there will try to lean on this as an excuse, but it’s pretty common for QB’s to get things like this taken care of during the offseason.

Sanchez had knee surgery last offseason, I’m guessing he’ll have shoulder surgery this offseason (to repair cartilage damage)….

Kudos to Brady and the Pats themselves tho for not using this as an excuse…

  11. After his last worrisome encounter with post surgical complications, Brady decided to take out a multi million dollar insurance policy in case his career is ended prematurely. He got married.

  12. Hey Brady call Ryan, i head he is good with feet
he will make it all better

oh and please no more excuses patriots you lost deal with it

  13. Go to extremes to sell it? Like having surgery the first week of his offseason to get it fixed? Sounds pretty shady to me. I have to say, this article starts out with a pretty negative bias. I completely agree that the Jets Defense is the reason for his performance on Sunday and not the foot, but to suggest this is a facade surgery to give fans an excuse is quite a stretch.

    Respectfully,
    Pappy

  14. I agree, PFT needs to go back and see if Brady’s foot was ever mentioned on injury report. I doubt it because Belichick can’t tell the truth to save his life.

Will Goodell fine Robert Kraft again heading into CBA-Maggedon? He should, but likely won’t because he only picks on the players.

Yeah but was it listed on the injury report?

    —————-

Do you live in a cave? His foot has been listed for a while now and he has been given many practices off because of it we are now finding out.

And for the other morons in the world, this injury has nothing to do with the loss to the Jets. The Jets earned it plain and simple. The Patriots made to many mistakes while the Jets made none.

  16. hmmmmm….Brady plays against Rex and now there is something wrong with his foot. Maybe Welker was on to something?

  17. What I don’t understand is that when the Patriots lose, the media comes out with a report that Brady is playing with a broken or injured something like he is the only one that plays hurt. Bad foot or not, the better team won.

You don’t understand it because you’re linking it to a loss when the Patriots and Brady are not.

The season is over and he his taking care of an injury that he has had for some time. It has nothing to do with the loss.

Based on your thinking what were his injuries after the first Jets game of the season or the Cleveland loss?

You’re making assumptions and we all know what that means.

Brady was listed on the injury report for most of the season as “Probable: shoulder, foot”. Including leading up to their loss against the Jets. So, yes, a foot issue was listed. But I guess that is because Belichick was lying…right?

Plenty of reasons for the Pats loss over the weekend. Poor QB play, poor coaching, poor line play, poor secondary play, dropped passes. A sore foot was the least of their problems. Obviously Brady had played well most of the season with that sore foot.

He was playing with a broken foot you moron. What should the press do, not report this? Yes, the better team won. No excuses made, just a report that Brady is having surgery. No one said they lost because of this.

  21. Wow.. People sure love to hate Tom Brady.. I guess that’s to be expected when you are a 3 time Super Bowl Champion, 2 time Super Bowl MVP, 1 time NFL MVP (maybe a second), holds the record for most TD’s in a single season, led his team to the most consecutive winning streak.

Ahhhh…. I bet most, if not all of you , would be singing a different tune if he were your teams starting QB… LOL!

  22. Are all these people telling the Pats to stop playing the excuse card football fans at all? Every member of the organization, from rookie to Kraft has given credt to the Jets for a superior game, bucko. Stop talking through…the top of your empty head.

And yes, jsdriscoll, it was on the injury report.

  23. Will he have enough time to get his foot “fixed” in between facial procedures with his cosmetic surgeon? He’s already had his chin, eyebrows, and cheekbones done. And can’t forget the hair plugs to cover that bald spot.

This is like Favre’s supposed biceps injury. The teams themselves never came out and confirmed these “injuries”. Only the media. Excuses excuses.

  24. All you Brady haters – you are beyond pathetic.
    Your punishment is the mirror.

He has what he has because he worked his ass off for it.

Rock star good looks, beautiful wife, tons of money with more to come, beautiful (if a bit over the top) homes on either coast, modeling contracts, etc.

What do you have besides the safety of the anonymity of the internet so you can tell the world how much you ENVY him?

  25. Brady played the last 8 games of the season and the 1 playoff game with a stress fracture in his foot – that’s 9 for those of you who are mathematically challenged.

Any of you haters out there tough enough to say that?

    I thought so.

Go back to your hiding places.

  26. Sanchez has been playing the last month plus with torn cartilidge in his throwing shoulder. Only difference is you dont hear about that and he outplayed brady with it too. By the way that was the second time this season he outplayed brady. Check out the stats from wk 2 and the playoff game. Just sayin… stats dont lie . No excuses

  27. The only way an injury is pertinant to a jest fan is if it is one of their players. Tom isn’t making excuses, but jest fans will be, come Monday.

  28. Brady is fragile and HIGHLY over-rated. I get tired of seeing him call for a flag when he gets hit. “Roughing the model – 15 yards and a first down!”

Mediocre college quarterbacks can play great when they’re as well-protected as Brady. Put pressure on him and he turns into an average QB, or worse. He’ll get into the hall of fame, but they should put him in a separate powder-puff section.

Big Ben…. broken foot…check; broken nose…check; porous offensive line…check; still gets it done…check.

@historian… ENVY Brady? Only if you define yourself by how much material wealth you’ve accumulated and how pretty your wife is. Modeling contracts??? Really?? *You* envy that??

  29. @1historian… Ben had a busted foot since mid-season, had his nose broken, smashed sideways – literally – and got right back in the game. Then he stiff-arms the best and beastliest pash rusher in the league (Suggs), escapes, throws an incompletion to avoid a sack, which leads to a touchdown a few plays later.

I believe we’d have seen Tom pass out when he saw the blood gushing from his face. Worried about that modeling contract, no doubt. Pansy.

Fine, but why is he yelling “Oooowwww!” in his picture?

If you don’t hear about Samchez’ shoulder, how come everyone knows about it, I wonder?

  32. Has anyone seen the cover of Sports Illustrated???? It is priceless! The Golden Boy looks like he is ready to cry, like he is facing the Grim Reaper.

He may be a great quarterback, but he is a real pansy. LOL.

  33. God I love tweaking Pats fans. Go watch Brady’s infamous presser from Super Bowl XLII when he notoriously laughs at Plaxico’s 17 point prediction. Then go watch his presser from the other night and try and say he didn’t have facial work done. In 2 years he’ll look like Michael Jackson.

And I also love how Pats fans try and use Gisele as some sort of ammo. Ever see pics of her without makeup? Let’s just say she’s not a natural beauty. Without 10 lbs of makeup and a really good airbrush artist she looks like an anorexic meth addict. Brady can have her. I’ll take my wife any day.

Tom Brady 3 time Super Bowl Champion*

  34. Awwww – poor baby. Loses, not because he was smacked around and played so-so, but because of a widdle broken bone.

  35. Couldn’t agree more with stixzidinia. Giselle is ugly without 10 lbs of makeup and she does look like an anorexic meth addict. She is from Brazil. Wlak down any street in Brazil and you will see many hotter girls, Real Brazilian girls, hotter than the ugly German Giselle.

As far as Tommy Boy modeling. He endorses Stetson cologne for crist sakes. $10/ bottle piss smelling cologne. That is nothing to brag about. But I guess piss smelling colgene smells better that most Pats fans.

I guess Mr. Proma Donna does want to play in the Pro Bowl. He is to good for it. Meanwhile Brees, Manning, Rivers all play in the Pro Bowl when selected.

Fact is, Brady and the Pats have not won anything since they got got cheating.

    Brady is a whiny primadonna.

  36. stixzidinia; Please explain how Pats fans “use Gisele for ammo” ? First of all, I don’t understand your comment, which is pretty dense, but if there is an actual thought behind it, please elaborate.
