Everson Griffen’s arrest his second since Friday

Mike Florio brought you the news late Monday of Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen’s arrest for felony battery of a police officer. As it turns out, that’s not the only trouble he’s been in recently.

Griffen’s on a law-breaking binge.

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune has confirmed a TMZ.com report that Griffen was also arrested last Friday night in Hollywood for public drunkenness.

During the course of his second arrest in four days, Griffen told police he “did not want to go back to jail.”

Griffen was released from custody at around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Tom Pelissero of 1500 ESPN Twin Cities wrote this terrific profile of Griffen last June. It includes one NFL executive explaining why his team removed Griffen from its draft board last April.

  1. As long as he doesnt get accused of anything he should be fine. Goodell only suspends for accuations, not arrests or convictions.

  2. Can’t wait to mse how it tops that by Friday.

Coin toss whether he lands in Oakland, D.C., Cincy, or Pittsburgh.

  3. Where is that clown claiming this was all about the police abusing their powers? Seems to be a case of a scumbag, plain and simple.

  4. “Griffen told police he “did not want to go back to jail.”

Then assaulting a Police Officer and resisting arrest is not the best strategy to accomplish that goal.

  5. Wow, stunning piece “karnak”, er. . Tom. You could write a generic article about 20% of the draft class and be right 80% of the time. Just change the name and school in the article. . . .

LOTS of these kids have problems, not abig suprise. Now I know why these players and coaches hate talking to some reporters. It’s the same reason I didn’t like telling my dad when I made mistakes, he’d pull the “I TOLD YOU SO” card, just like this.

  6. another example of wasting potential. He is just not good enough to get away with breaking the law. Sorry Everson get the memo you dont play QB better straightin up now make a charity or end of working somewhere else.

How many sides does your coin have??

  8. The Vikings will be competing to be the worst team in the NFL next year.

And it will be hilarious to peek at the standings each Monday to see them firmly entrenched in the NFC “Central” basement.

    Karma.

  9. Why are you pimping Pelissero’s work? That guy is a hack going back to his days with the Press Gazette.

    Whooooo? Stay classy vikes fans!

How many Super Bowls have you won?

How many have you won? What team did you play for?
Or is this a case of some one thinking they are better than another person because the team they like has had more success on the field?
Ma’am, either grow up or go back to the barn.

  11. The Vike’s season tanks, the Dome collapses, the Pack’s in the Super Bowl, the LA stadium gets $700M naming rights, and Griffen puts on his dunce cap — twice. What’s next here in MN — the plague? Green and gold locusts?

  12. I suppose the 4th or 5th round is about right for a high risk player but why not just use those picks on guys whose character you are sure of and can coach up? For every Griffen there is a Lagarrett Blunt though.

What “karma” are you talking about?

Your scumbag hero Ben Rapistberger was not suspended for accusations. He was suspended for “conduct detrimental to the league”.

Maybe a roll of the dice?

  16. I gotta give it to that cop. He probably could have shot him and justified that his life was in danger. Thank god their not all trigger happy.I bet he beat the crap out of him. Now if the league really cares about the game, this guy wont be in anybodys camp in spring. Remember hollywood hendersons run. The more things change the more they stay the same

  17. Public drunkenness in Hollywood is a crime? Everson is lucky they popped him for drunk and disorderly before he really got on a roll.

  18. This can only mean one thing; Mr Griffen will be starting next year and the whole world can hold hands and sing cum-by-yah as another lost sole is saved.
