Urlacher got same shot as Cutler to play in NFC Championship Game

It was revealed this week that Bears quarterback Jay Cutler got a shot at halftime of the NFC Championship Game in an unsuccessful effort to play through his injured knee. Now Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher says he got the same shot.

Urlacher told the Chicago Tribune he took a shot of Toradol to help him deal with a sprained left wrist and a few other minor injuries.

“I’m sure you could take Advil or something, but it would take longer to get in your system,” Urlacher said. “For Jay, I’m assuming they wanted to give him something immediate to hopefully ease the pain a little bit.”

Toradol is classified as an anti-inflammatory, not a painkiller, but it helps people deal with pain. Bears safety Chris Harris also reportedly took Toradol before the game to help deal with a hip injury. Players routinely get shots to help them get through games, a fact that probably deserves more scrutiny than it gets.

For Urlacher’s part, he’s still ticked off that people are questioning Cutler.

“I don’t get it,” he said. “It blows my mind how people are blowing things out of proportion so bad. He hurt his knee, tried to play on a hurt knee, and the trainers took him out. That was it. Big deal. It happens every [freaking] week to every team. Guys get hurt and they try to go. Sometimes they can. Sometimes, they can’t. It depends on the severity of the injury, and his was pretty severe.’'
