The NFL Network will unveil yet another AP award winner Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. ET. Once again, there is an early report about the winner.

(And this one should actually be right. McLane is reporting the story on his paper’s website. The Clay Matthews mishap happened from reporters repeating misinformation on Twitter.)

Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Michael Vick won the AP comeback player of the year of the award. The recognition is no surprise, but puts a bow on Vick’s return back to NFL prominence and general acceptance from most of the media and fans.

At this point, Vick’s re-emergence is almost taken for granted. But no one say this coming a year ago, including the Eagles coaching staff. Vick did not look explosive when he played in 2009, and we were among the people who wondered if his old speed would ever return.

It did in a huge way in 2010, and his passing was more consistent than ever with the help of Eagles coach Andy Reid. Vick set the league on fire as a youngster and threw it all away.

After two years in prison and one on the bench, his return to prominence truly is a remarkable story.
