Kirk Bohls of the Austin American-Statesman reports that University of Texas defensive backs coach Jerry Gray has emerged as a candidate to coordinate the Titans’ defense under Mike Munchak.
Current Titans linebackers coach Dave McGinnis was previously considered a strong candidate to run Munchak’s defense, but the rookie head coach is apparently looking outside the organization.
Gray and Munchak coached together on Jeff Fisher’s Titans staff for four years in the late 1990s. Gray moved on to become a defensive coordinator with the Bills, and later the Redskins’ defensive backs coach. He coached the Seahawks’ secondary in 2010.
Gray took the Texas job just three weeks ago, and was considered a coup for Longhorns coach Mack Brown.
That coup may not last long.
