Shaun Rogers will visit Redskins today

AP

On Thursday, Jay Glazer of FOX reported that former Browns defensive lineman Shaun Rogers may visit the Redskins.

Multiple reports since then have indicated that, indeed, Rogers will visit the Redskins.

Chris Russell of ESPN 980 was the first, as far as we can tell, to report that the Redskins will meet with Rogers on Friday.  As we recently explained, veterans with four or more years of service who are released between now and March 3 become free agents and can sign with another team.

Rogers can play nose tackle or end in the Redskins’ 3-4 defense.  His presence could make Albert Haynesworth expendable.

  1. Its good to have him personnel wise, but he is another nucklehead off the field. not to mention he wears the same number as another fat ugly on the team.

  2. So the question becomes whether Dan Snyder can resist his prediliction to over pay for over-the-hill names.

  3. and the offseason older end of career acquisitions continue…..man….this org cracks me up with the same strategy yr to yr only to finish last every yr…when was the last time this team competed for the NFC East Title? They might be the worst run org in the league now and their record backs it up….

  4. So let me get this straight. Fat Albert, who hates being the nose tackle in the 3-4 defense, is going to be replaced by a player who shows up so out of shape that he’s out of gas after 10 plays and has to sit on the bench. How stupid. Both players are dominant when they want to be. With Rogers, it’s when he can stay on the field for more than 10 plays, but while he’s out there he’s deadly. Fat Albert is dominant when he wants to be, and he doesn’t want to be in Washington. Tell you one thing. Whoever ends up with Haynesworth next is going to have the good version. He’ll want to prove himself big time. That could be scary.

  5. knucklehead*

Also, it looks as though the Redskins have learned nothing and continue to do what it takes to become the laughing stock of the league. They do have fierce competition from the Raiders though. It’ll be interesting to see who comes out on top…

  6. “Shaun Rogers will visit Redskins today”……..Of course he will. This is why the Redskins continue to go nowhere. Hey Snyder, I think Favre is available

  7. WOW!?! The Hilarity continues! BWAAA! The Racist Skins never learn. can you imagine Rogers and haynesworthless laying on the ground together? This team is a joke!

  8. And once again the Redskins begin their quest for the annual Dan Snyder trophy given to the team who signs the most stupid free agents every year. This guy was just released yesterday. Do they even think about these guys beforehand.

  9. Also, I’ve seen him at practice (he was not actually practicing as was the case all year) during training camp live. He was catching footballs with one hand out of the jugs machine from about 7-10 yards- incredible hands – he may be better utilized on offense at this stage in his career

  10. Will the Redskins ever learn…..hire me, I ll stop you from acquiring idiots, has beens and will nots

  11. I wonder if they bring Rodgers in that it could be a move so they can keep Haynesworth and move him to the DE spot.

  12. Shaun Rogers COME ON DOWN!!! Your the next contestent on “100 Million reasons to sign this contract!”

Sorry dude, your career is over.

  13. Welcome to the Redskins Park tour Shaun-

Here’s where we keep the shattered dreams of our fans- that’s the big building overe there.

Across the quad is our hall-of-hate-mail. The addition will be ready- hopefully- by draft day.

And finally here’s our time machine. We hop in here whenever we have to write press releases and want to remember what winning feels like.
I know the poster in there of Riggo breaking the tackle in the Super Bowl is almost 30 years old, but its our favorite!

  14. Wow, then you have to expect Ocho Cinco and TO to visit DC tomorrow. They are becoming the new Raiders.

Hard to believe Shannahan with all the trouble he had with Albert bring in his long lost twin.

  15. Hey, here’s an idea. How about NOT signing any “A list” free agents and focus on having good drafts for the next few years. I though Danny Boy had “grown” but it looks like he’s as stupid as he’s ever been. I’m a lifelong Skins fan, but this idiot is driving me, and many others, crazy with his ruining of the team. It is no longer as to question whether I’ll ever see quality on the field again. I won’t.

To Mr. Snyder, if you are truly a Redskins fan, sell this teams. Don’t you want to see them win again?

  16. Hainsworth can still play. His brain can’t. Bring in the doctor….Coach Washburn, who Hainsworth loves and Philly”s def. gets far better instantly.

  17. Whoa lets hold on a second with the trash talking everyone. Yes Snyder has been one of the worst owners over the past decade and has no idea what to do when it comes to free agency. That being said though, he’s not making personnel decisions anymore (at least we ‘skins fans hope). Bringing in Rodgers is a great move if they can get him for the right price. They were terrible last year stopping the run, which led to them getting killed against the play action. Adding a 350 lb run stuffer should help with that and then that way they really can dump haynesworth.

Yes, if they give him $20 mil guaranteed or something stupid like that the Skins haven’t changed at all. The reality is that right now no one is signing free agents, so if Shaun really wants a signing bonus bad enough he might take much less than he would command in a regular off season. Let’s see what kind of contract they offer before jumping on them.

  18. Shananan Is killing this team. He took the best part of the team from 2009 and destroyed it. It worked as a 4-3, was a decent squad that needed a few tweaks. If they kept the 4-3, and kept Randle El, they might’ve played better.
We saw Randle El still had some juice left in him in the Super bowl. And the Defense for this team in 2010 wasn’t a threat whatsoever.

  19. Oh good, just what they need.

Keeping up with the Redskins ‘checklist’ for players:

    1) Over 32 – check
    2) out of shape – check
    3) attitude problem – check
    4) off field problems – check
    5) injury prone – check
    6) lazy – check

    He’ll do well there.

  20. If all the naysayers herein will remember last year… the Skins had what seems was every free agent available visiting them. However unlike years past, they only signed a few of those free agent players.

C’mon man. Let’s give Shanahan and Allen a break.

    Go Skins!!!!

  21. Most of the people commenting negatively on this are doing so because it’s the Redskins trying to pick up Rodgers, what people dont realize is that Rodgers didnt play alot of snaps was because the way in which Rob Ryan utilized his personnel, when Rodgers is on the field he is a force and he plays 100% when ever he is on the field contrary to what most believe and he is a guy that doesn’t mind playing the nose. The Redskins are making a smart move if they pick this guy up for a good price, lets face it if it were the Cowboys, Patriots, Ravens, or Steelers trying to pick Rodgers up there would be countless comments of the rich getting richer, but because it’s the Skins it’s Snyder’s back at it again and this is a stupid move the Skins have to go after people that fit their scheme and lets face it with a defense at #31 they need a major overhaul.

  22. classic I can see it now…snyder will give him 100 million , he then shows up to camp, and he can’t pass a conditioning test so shanahan has him doing anything but playing football, then snyder will fire bruce allen, and say it was bruce allen who wantd this guy….hail skins lmao….where is hailz55 now?

  23. good one redrntn….where are the 4skin fans? crawled back under that rock after they talked crap all season only to finish last again..fanbase talking all that crap again to finish last and back into hiding…….lmao.

lets see…no QB, org in turmoil again and no talent at any position.

    1. they haven’t acquired him as you have mention

    2. they had same record as your cowboys

    3. please keep your opinions to yourself and let everyone think you are a fool , instead of what you normally do which is allow people to see your opinions and remove all doubt that you are fool

  25. First of all with the new regime he will not get paid huge money and there will be incentives involved.

Second, when Shanny gets though with Rogers his cardiovascular endurance will be through the roof!…. we might actually try him out at RB as well.

  26. For those of you ignorant football fans out there (which obviously most of you are), here are some facts. Snyder no longer is involved in any football decisions. He has given all control of personnel decisions to GM Bruce Allen and Head Coach Mike Shanahan. So, the only thing Snyder is doing these days is cutting checks once a decision has been made. Just thought I would educate the masses…HAIL!

  27. Dan Snyder is too arrogant to build a FRANCHISE team that is good year in and year out. You can’t do it if you don’t have draft picks which they rarely do. They never get younger as a team. Sometimes, you have to get worse before you can be better and Danny won’t purposefully allow his team to get bad, instead he’ll be incompetent and overpay over the hill has beens and still be garbage.

While that 0-16 season my team had was absolutely pathetic it was caused by 2 things, Millen’s inability to stick to any type of building plan and Marinelli’s insistence at getting rid of the only good players the Lions had (Rogers included) due to attitude. So, that killed that team but, it cleaned up the locker room and gave the new leadership a chance to BUILD…not piece meal.

  28. Boysroll says “When was the last time this team competed for a division title” Actually it was 2007! You also said the Skins are always finishing in last place! Guess what,They had company this past season and it was your over rated Dallas Cowboys finishing with Washington at 6 and 10….Please point out to me where Dallas is more superior because Im not seeing it!!!!!

  29. Yes… sign another expensive, washed up free agent with an attitude problem, because that plan has worked out so well to this point.

Since Danny took over, the Skins have to have the worst dollar spent to win ratio in the history of the NFL.

I agree fully that Rogers is a force when on the field. That’s not the issue. He is a baby, he gets into trouble off the field and he shows up completely out of shape. He’s not off the field due to packages, he’s off the field due to being completely out of shape. If he could stay on the field and didn’t get completely worn out playing 1/4 of the defensive plays, he’d be a great player. As is, he can’t be counted on for more than a handful of games and plays at the most.

  31. good one redrntn….i want to give u a reacharound…bring me ur 4skin for me to gnaw on! i crawled from under my rock after hearing theres potentially a new member of the redskins that i can meet next to my dumpster behind the 711 on sunset hills! another guy i can worship on my hands and knees til he washes my tonsils with goo! i hallucinated home superbowl crap all season only to finish last again.. coweffer fanbase talking all that crap again to finish last and back into hiding…….lmao.

lets see…coweffers…ticket fraud, phony SB attendance record try thru selling SRO to watch tv outside the maiming stadium, no QB, org in turmoil again and no talent at any position.

    IM 7′-12″ 437 1/2 LBS! LMFAO!

  32. @boysroll

U know what cracks me up???? Ur knowledge of Football! U r such a IDIOT! Why don’t sit here and tell us once again how ur Cowboys will win a SB. BTW, didn’t ur Cowboys, the same Cowboys who u and other idiots picked to go to the SB finish with the same record as the Redskins???

  33. It’s amazing how clearly you can see the disparity between the informed and the ignorant. Every comment from the ignorant starts with “Dan Snyder hasn’t learned his lesson, keeps giving people $100 million, why do they keep signing free agents, you need to win with draft picks, etc.”. The INFORMED actually know that Dan Snyder has been extremely hands-off since handing the reins to Allen and Shanahan, neither of these guys had anything to do with Haynesworth’s contract or anyone before him (Randle-El, Archuleta, Lloyd, Bruce Smith, Deion, etc.), and the franchise is trying to turn itself around, it just takes time. Most of the contracts have been very incentive-laden and Redskins-friendly, allowing the Skins to cut ties at any time with minimal repercussions. Was the Haynesworth decision a couple years ago a mistake? Absolutely. But it’s moves like this one–possibly signing Rogers to a $3-4 million contract and using him in a NT rotation with Anthony Bryant–that helps you to get rid of Haynesworth and move forward with your franchise.

Of course, this means nothing to the masses of sheep, and I’m sure the next 10 comments are going to be about how Snyder needs to sell his team in order for the franchise to win.

  34. hey 4skin dopes…..statistically and officially you finished in last place dopes. thats how ignorant the fan base is as they do not understand they were last AGAIN!!!!! CAll the league office if you are that uninformed……..LMAO.

  35. @boysroll

Dude, nobody on here thinks that u even watch Football. Just stop posting and go away. Cowboys r a bigger joke than the Skins, otherwise how would u explain there complete meltdown this year? U R A JOKE!!!!!!!!!

  36. Just when I thought the Snyder may have learned his lesson…again. I’ve watched this guy play against the Ravens twice a year for a while and he fades as the game progresses. Big name not worth a big investment. Guess that’s why the Redskins are at the top of his dance card.

  37. Why not add JeMarcus “buffet” Russell to the roster? (Can you imagine the tab on feeding these guys?) Add T.O. and Ochostinko and their attitudes…yep, that should do it.

Shanahan would blow a blood vessel!

  38. @boysroll
How was that super bowl that the cowboys played in this year? Remember how you were certain they were the best team in the league? Every year the cowgirls show the world just how poorly they are run. Way to draft another wide out instead of an o-lineman. Red jesus is not going to take you to the playoffs or a post season victory. The fact that it snowed like hell at the super bowl is proof positive that hell has frozen over.

    ======================================
Ok, am I reading this correctly “…and their record backs it up…” Really? Let’s return to reality:

    Redskins 6-10 = Cowboys 6-10

Plus for all your talk about Rogers, he’ll more than likely be a Cowboy next year. At least that’s the wishes of the Cowboy’s new DC who used to be Rogers’ DC in Cleveland: http://cowboysblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2011/02/cowboys-dc-ryan-had-no-problem.html

In all honesty dude, you remind me of the knight from Monty Python where he’d lose a limb and deny that he hadn’t.
