Jeremy Shockey “very interested” in playing for Dolphins

Free agent tight end Jeremy Shockey played college football in Miami, and he wouldn’t mind playing there in the NFL.

Shockey’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said on the Joe Rose Show that his client would be “very interested” in playing for the Dolphins.

Rosenhaus would not say, however, whether the Dolphins are giving Shockey a physical. Shockey said Wednesday that he has a physical scheduled, but he wouldn’t reveal the team.

Shockey could make sense for the Dolphins, a team that is likely to add a tight end this offseason. The biggest question may be how much Shockey really has left in the tank as a 30-year-old who’s coming off career lows in catches and yards.

  1. Interesting. I thought he would want to play for the Jets since it has been proclaimed that every player wants to play for Wrecks.

  2. Being a dolphins fan, I am skeptical about bringing in shockey. First, I think his best years are behind him and secondly i think between him and Brandon Marshall that might be too much “me first” personality in the locker room.

  3. Jeremy Shockey “very interested” in mediocrity.

Jeremy Shockey “very interested” in field goals and unnecessary fist pumps.

Jeremy Shockey “very interested” in meeting Gloria Esteban.

Jeremy Shockey “very interested” in catching horribly thrown passes from a failure of a QB.

Jeremy Shockey “very interested” in losing at LEAST 7 games this year.

Jeremy Shockey “very interested” in spelling words that begin with the letter F with a “Ph” instead.

I can do this all day.

  4. I am sorry but why would any team waste more than the veteran minimum on this guy? His knees are made of glass and his attitude is garbage.

Maybe I am just not getting it, is this supposed to be a joke, or do you really not know that her name is Gloria Estefan???

I have seen people post messages noting “Gloria Estaban’s” partial ownership for months. I just had to ask if it was intentionally spelled wrong, or simply stupidity….

  6. @ firesparano who says:
He is no better than Fasano and can’t block as well.
    ——————————————
Have you been watching? Shockey is every bit as good a blocker as Fasano. Besides that, Shockey would only improve your two tight end sets.

  7. Shockey doesnt have a “Me first” attitude and when healthy the guy can still flat out play. That is the only issue, hes been really unlucky as far as injuries go. If anything Miami fans should be more worried ab whos going to throw Marshal, shockey, or any reciever on that team the ball, oh and again thanks for giving us Brees on a silver platter, without u guys we may have ended up having Chad Hennie as our QB (scary thought)… all u Miami fans should know Shock can still play, u dont remember him throwing all of ur defenders off him in that comeback win??? Whoever picks this guy up will be getting a solid player with good locker room savy… the guy stepped up to be a leader for us and helped us get a ring, and never caused any problems whatsoever u cant ask for more. Thanks for good times Shockey, NOLA still has love for ya.

  8. ampats – is someone bitter that the Jets walked into Foxboro in the postseason and lit up the Pats? the Jets weren’t even mentioned in the article, get over it. you can come on down to NY and we can talk it out face to face if you’re really having problems with it. I know I’m not the only one getting sick of reading your childish nonsense.

  9. Ok so it’s now a surprise that the guy who would prefer to spend his offseason partying with his former U teammates rather than work with his QB and his team now wants to spend his whole year there?

Do you know who Jeremy Shockey is?Have you ever watched an NFL game? Shockey has infinitely better hands than Fasano, and 3 x as fast. In case you haven’t noticed Dolphins use a lot of 2 tight end sets. Shockey would fit in perfectly. Fat Anthony would anchor one side, Shockey would be on the other catching footballs.

  11. The really sad part is that no matter “how over the hill,” “past his prime” or “his best days are behind him” Shockey may be, he’s still a big upgrade over that stiff Fasano.

Ireland and Sparano have one year. May as well go all in……

“Jeremy Shockey is “very interested” in any team that will take his over the hill ass.”

Maybe if Minnesota would get him they could lure that over the hill ass in Mississippi to come back for another run at a ring.

  13. I’m a big Fasano fan. But I think this would be a great pick-up. Fasano has no one behind him and we need a fast patch-catching TE.

With all the holes on our roster (QB, C, G, speed WR, RB) we really can’t afford to draft a young TE this year, and he’ll come much cheaper than some other top-end FA TEs. Shockey would be a great fill-in for 2-3 years.

Plus, all the Saints fans are saying that he no longer acts like an immature punk and instead actually brought toughness and leadership to the locker room. That’s not something to snub your nose at.

  14. Shockey’s way better than Fasano who seems to drop just about any ball that isn’t laid in perfect and let’s face it no defense is concerned about where he is on the field. If Shock can stay healthy (BIG IF) he’s an upgrade. The real concern in Miami is Henne who will either turn into a real QB or get all the coaches fired. This a team that has some pieces together but is missing the key ingredient- the QB. McNabb may be an interesting tryout or they need to draft whomever they think has the biggest upside.

  15. It won’t happen, but I wouldn’t mind seeing him team up with Vernon Davis and Delanie Walker in Jim Harbaughs TE heavy offense.

Andrew Luck threw 4 TDs in the Bowl Game and they were ALL to TEs.

You’re confused. You’re thinking of the jets. The Dolphins started the 2010 season the youngest team in he league.

u nailed it right on the head my friend and im tellin ya, this guy was nothing short of a class act in his time here. Some guys come to NOLA and end up acting like complete idiots bc they cant resist the “lifestyle” (i say that loosely bc ppl from here dont act like that just tourists or ppl who just recently moved here and werent raised here) but Shock came here with some baggage and NEVER and i mean NEVER acted up. He bought into what we were trying to do as a team and he embraced it. I saw him once get into it with Brees but 6ft nothing Brees got in his face and they went back to work and never had it out again. He was always one of the few guys who no matter what gave the media interviews (win or lose) and always said the right things. Jimmy Graham is a guy we got who was all talent but lacked the “know how” and shockey spent all last year coaching the kid to take his job, knowing full well that he was passing over the job to him. His character is no longer a question. I can speak for the Who Dat Nation when I say we give this guy our full recomendation to any team out there… except for the cowboys. Like I said before NOLA will always have love for this guy.

Couldnt have said it any better.. The article has nothing to do with the jets. Some of you guys are such haters its sickening..

  20. finsbooyah,

Seriously? Your a big Fasano fan? No direspect man but are you Italian?

There is NOTHING about Fasano that makes me a big fan. He’s slow, can’t seperate from the defence and drops key catches when the QB needs him most. He’s bottom third in the league as far as TE’s go but he might be decent in a tandem with Shockey.

  21. breeshasabush,

That’s good to know, I’m hoping Miami signs him.

It’s kinda funny, because last year at this time there was a ton of speculation that the Dolphins were very very interested in drafting Graham. I’ll be happy with his mentor instead.

  22. He should be with Daboll running the O down there. Dudes offense is very focused on getting the TE the ball. Ask Ben Watson, he’ll tell you.

  23. Dolphan34, Haha yea I actually am italian… No doubt he’s not on of the leagues best but he’s an exceptional blocker, and we could do much worse. Also, he had a great year when Miami had David Martin streaking up the seam. He would team up nicely with Shockey.

  24. I think back a few seasons when he was on the covere of ESPN Mag – saying the Saints got the better end of the trade with the Giants……

I remember watching the SuperBowl when he was up in the press box with a Coors in one hand and a mixed drink in the other…..

He had so much potential as a rookie….maybe Miami is the place to play. They always have a lot of potential…
