Federal mediation between the NFL and NFLPA will continue Thursday, but not before one final meeting of NFL owners at the end of a long day.

The remaining NFL owners in Washington D.C. and key league officials are meeting with federal mediator George Cohen on Wednesday night, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.

Meanwhile, SI’s Jim Trotter reports that mediation between the NFL and NFLPA will officially resume on Thursday morning at 9 a.m. ET.

The meeting between Cohen and ownership on Wednesday is presumably an effort to see what the owners are thinking, and where they might be able to compromise. NFL Network’s Albert Breer reported that Giants owner John Mara, Packers CEO Mark Murphy, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, lead negotiator Jeff Pash and outside counsel Bob Batterman are in the meeting with Cohen.

The union has been camped out at their offices nearby, but they won’t be needed until tomorrow morning.

It should be a fun day. Or a depressing one for all football fans. (Probably the latter.)
