DeMaurice Smith says, “We’re gonna keep working”

With the NFLPA maintaining a strict no comment policy, NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith paused while leaving the offices of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service to give a comment.

“For all of our fans who dig our game, we appreciate your patience as we work through this,” Smith said, invoking one of his favorite words (and, yes, we can dig it).  “We’re gonna keep working.  We want to play football.”

A statement from George Cohen, director of the FMCS is expected.  When we see it, we’ll post it, and we’ll try to interpret it.

Meanwhile, reports are meshing with our interpretation of the meaning of the 24-hour extension.  The goal isn’t to get a deal done, but to strike a deal on a longer extension.  With the parties running out of time to get David Doty’s John Henry on a deal to extend the deal, they had to find a way to buy time.

  1. Some people call him the space cowboy….
Some people call him the ganster of love…
    Some people call him DeMaurice…

    I can dig it

  2. Don’t patronize us DeMaurice. Don’t try to talk like one of us. You aren’t one of us.

You are a rich attorney who is more interested in self-promotion and power than in resolving this labor agreement. Just like the team owners, it’s more important to you to “win” than to find a middle ground.

  3. All I have to say is DeMaurice shut up and let them play ball. Your goning to hurt the sport if you lock out.. Example Baseball… Do you want that hanging over your head??

  4. @chwtom

Whats your deal? He’s working for the players. Would you like whoever is working for you to sell you out? If your answer is “no” then shut up and find something meaningful to say.
