Giants won’t retain Tiki Barber’s rights

The Giants don’t want Tiki Barber back.

Bob Glauber of Newsday reports via a league source that the Giants will not retain Tiki’s rights, which is news that should surprise no one.

The possibility of the Giants welcoming Barber back with open arms seemed about as likely as coach Tom Coughlin quitting his job to drum in the Blue Man Group.

“Is Tiki ‘No Need for a’ Barber’ serious??” Giants receiver Steve Smith asked on Twitter Tuesday.   “Can’t wait till he play vs the Giants. They gone hear them Boooo’s all way in LA.”

First, Tiki has to get a gig.   (After waiting for a new CBA to be worked out.)  He was due $4.65 million-per-year in his last contract, and figures to only get offers near the league minimum this time around.  If he gets offers at all.

Ira Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune says not to “hold your breath” waiting for Tiki to join his brother in Tampa.

UPDATE: The Giants released a statement on the matter: “We wish Tiki nothing but the best, and when we are able to make the transaction, we will release him from our reserve/retired list.”

  1. Asked about Tiki Barber’s rights, the Giants simply said “Tiki Barber…………….riiiggghht…”.

  2. Tiki… As a life long Giants fan, thank you.

Thank you for leaving us abruptly.
Thank you for running your mouth like a bitch.
Thank you for motivating us to win it all.

No matter what they say, you still have THAT left on your legacy in Big Blue History.

  3. This guy is a joke too dumb to make it as a broadcaster and too dumb to realize he’s gonna be 41 and out of the N.F.L for 5 years and to top that he is a running back. And oh yeah too dumb manage his money he more than likely broke.

He could be a third down back.

He should be zero down back

  5. He is probably thinking that a NFL job will gaurantee a new group on young iterns to hit on. Tiki needs to call BrINT to get some advice on how to hit on young women and NOT get caught.

both are as sleazy as the day is long.

  6. How many 36 year old running backs are there in the NFL? How many 36 year old running backs have made a come back in the NFL? How many 36 year old running backs retire, bad mouth their old team as a sport commentator and have the nerve to ask them to release him so he can play for someone else?

There has been a lot of evidence that some former NFL players have been having issues as a result of head trauma and maybe someone should suggest to Tiki to have a brain scan. He’s is definitely delusional!

Man his ex wife is fine! Hope that the baby sitter was worth all this?

  7. How old is this guy you ask?

Here are some other players also drafted in 1997 for comparison:

    Orlando Pace
    Ike Hilliard
    Warrick Dunn
    Tony Gonzalez
Antowain Smith (I’m actually laughing at this point)
    Jake Plummer
    Corey Dillon
    Darren Sharper
    Jason Taylor

  8. jimmysmith, once again you turned this into a brett favre thing, can you say obsessed, you must be mad he didnt forward thoses texts to your phone, you CLOWN

  9. I’m no Tiki Barber fan, but just to keep things straight here, I feel the need to make a couple of points:

-he is not 41, as phillyforlife claims, he’s 36, or 5 years younger than Brett Favre. And to compare him to other 36 year old football players is slightly ridiculous. You understand there is a difference between a 36 year old NFL player who has played continuously and a 36 year old who hasn’t been hit in 4 years, don’t you?

-identical twins tend to be remarkably similar physiologically. If Ronde can compete at an NFL level at 36, there is no reason to believe Tiki can’t.

-he is very far from broke. I spend alot of time in the same beach town he does and know lots of his associates. He has plenty of money. He certainly isn’t coming back to rake in that league minimum.

All of those things said, I wouldn’t want Tiki on my team, if I had one. All of the people I know who know him say he is a class A d*****bag, and he has a long reputation as being a locker room lawyer.

But I guarantee some team will take a veteran’s minimum flyer on him.

  10. Man, Tiki. Can’t cut it in broadcasting? Even Tony Siragusa can hold a job. Tony freakin Siragusa.

  11. @phillyforlife:

After deciphering what you attempted to say/write, I agree. Just don’t call someone dumb when you have a 3rd grade writing level.

  12. “Can’t wait till he play vs the Giants. They gone hear them Boooo’s all way in LA”

Wow, this guy went to college?

  13. Tiki was a half way decent side line reporter / broadcaster; but the reason for NBC cutting ties with him was because of his involvement with an intern. He violated the moral clause in his contract. Deserting one’s pregnant wife for a young intern is all the grounds they needed. Plus there was such a negative reactions to that story. He came off looking lie a jerk and he was.

Plus once you bad mouth your former team the NY Giants there only so long you can survive in the New York City.

Plus his former wife is fine!
