Police confirm Meriweather was at shooting; relative says he broke up fight

B. Meriweather

Details continue to slowly come out regarding Brandon Meriweather’s involvement in a shooting that occurred in Orlando nearly two weeks ago, leaving two men injured.

The Orange County Sheriff’s office confirmed to the Boston Herald that Meriweather was indeed present at the time of the shooting.

“We will continue to provide information that is available for release when proper to do so, and in a timely manner,” the office said in a statement released Thursday afternoon, noting the investigation was open.

One of Meriweather’s relatives, who stayed anonymous for fear of retribution, told Bob Hohler of the Boston Globe that Meriweather was trying to break up a fight when the shots were fired.

The story painted by Hohler is one of multiple fights throughout a night of partying, culminating in a gunfight and accidental shooting. Meriweather’s cousins were involved and the anonymous witness even named who he believes was the gunman -- Anton Massey.

The entire account is worth checking out, although it’s worth noting that Meriweather’s relative has a potential bias when trying to clear his family member’s name.
