The league office has found that five NFL teams had impermissible contact with players since the season ended, Commissioner Roger Goodell said today.

Goodell, who did not name the teams, said in his address to the media at the league meeting that the league office is serious about pursuing violations of the rules against contact with players.

“We have pursued it. We are in contact with the teams and we are pursuing that, and I think five teams have already been contacted on those issues for violations,” Goodell said.

Goodell made his comments in response to a question about whether the Dolphins had violated those rules by having contact with quarterback Chad Henne, but he did not say whether the Dolphins were one of the five teams fined. Previous reports had suggested the Dolphins would not be sanctioned by the league office after Henne revealed that he had had contact with the coaching staff.

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins are the subject of an NFL investigation over improper player-coach contact.

UPDATE: NFL spokesman Greg Aiello clarified that the infractions occurred in January-February before the CBA expired.
