Dan Marino: Dolphins should trade third-round pick for Carson Palmer

For 17 seasons, Dan Marino was the Dolphins’ starting quarterback. For a few days, he ran the Dolphins’ front office. Now Marino has a suggestion for how Miami’s current front office should acquire its next starting quarterback.

Marino believes that the Dolphins should send a third-round draft pick to the Bengals in exchange for Carson Palmer.

“I’ve always liked Carson,” Marino told the Miami Herald. “For a third-rounder, I would do it.”

Of course, the Bengals have insisted that they’re not going to trade Palmer, who says he’d retire before returning to Cincinnati. And all indications are that Palmer wants to be traded somewhere closer to home in California. Plus, there are no indications that the Dolphins want a 31-year-old quarterback coming off a mediocre season. And the lockout would have to end before a trade could get done.

So it’s probably safe to say Marino’s proposed trade won’t happen.
