We’re back in Stamford, Connecticut for today’s PFT Live, and we’ll be offering up our takes regarding the first round of the 2011 draft — and what to expect the rest of the way.

Once again, we’ll open the floor to questions.  And we’re patiently awaiting Sam Francisco’s reaction to San Francisco’s decision to use the seventh overall pick on Missouri defensive end Aldon Smith.

  1. As a 49ers fan I am actually pretty happy with the Aldon Smith pick for a couple reasons.

    1. They have stated they tried to move back but could not find a fair enough offer.

    2. The 49ers new brass stood up and took the best player on their board, even if it was a little bit of a reach.

    3. Pass rush for the 49ers has been WOEFUL so this is a huge need, and Aldon Smith has all the tools to be an impressive rusher.

Looking at the tape of Aldon Smith I think of Justin Smith, a guy with a huge motor that keeps going and doesn’t take a single snap off. Obviously different skillsets as far as rushing the passer from the edge for Smith, still having that motor is a huge thing the NFL.
