Taiwan Jones is a Raider

The Raiders continue to round up speedy prospects.  Most recently, they’ve taken the fastest running back in the 2011 draft class, Eastern Washington’s Taiwan Jones, with the 125th overall pick.

They obtained Jones with the fourth-round pick the Raiders obtained from the Patriots on Friday.

Jones, who ran the 40-yard dash at his Pro Day workout in a blazing 4.33 seconds, recently said that he missed a visit with the Raiders due to travel delays out of Miami.  His agent, Doug Hendrickson, then told PFT that Jones had no visit scheduled with the Raiders.

Regardless of what the truth was or wasn’t, the Raiders had no qualms about adding a possible home-run hitter to an offense that has become much more potent under new head coach Hue Jackson, who served as offensive coordinator in 2010.

  1. Maybe the haters would rather the Raiders draft slow guys…Al Davis is in the Hall of Fame,..not any of you.

  2. They’re going to have to refurbish the scoreboard this year, we’re gonna ring up the points big time.

  3. love the 4th rd picks….still on the board is te-virgil green, marcus cannon, lets get them as well raiders

  4. I like the Raiders draft so far. Linemen and the usual CB and RB with speed that we like. Maybe a QB now with a later pick?

  5. With the attitude and style of play Baby Wiz will bring to the Raiders Line as the starting center, Bruce Campbell, Veldheer and the addition of Barksdale it looks like the Raiders want to get back to having bullies on the O line.

The RB averaged a ridiculous 7.9 yards per carry in 24 games, scouts compared him to Jamaal Charles in KC and besides being the fastest he may just also be the most explosive back in this years Draft Class, the close to 37 yards he averaged on returns is not bad either.

Love the Draft so far, New England gave away Seymour for the 5th or 6th rated Tackle in this years Draft Solder lol. Love the Raiders 1st round pick at 17 Seymour, maybe the Bills can luck out and get a Seymour type player with the dude they took at 3, Solder? can anyone say Burgess?, lol.

  6. @citynative.. So what we suppose to draft a lineman every pick?… Damn! We already got the best G/C in the draft and plus a massive LT from LSU..

  7. Considering he’s a 4th round pick, he’s going to be a part-time spark-plug that will punish defenses that are tired from dealing with McFadden and Bush. His speed is going to be utilized like Darren Sproles speed was for the Chargers when LT was leading the way.

As for the line, Veldheer is the only starter returning, but Bruce Campbell is supposed to be a LG, Wisniewski is the new Center, Brandon Loper or rookie Barksdale will be the RG with either Langston Walker or even Barksdale manning the RT. The line is already an upgrade and with some free agent signings, the line should be fine and be built for the long term.

  8. mark my words. this is the Raiders’ best draft pick this year. I realize this wasn’t a position of need, but sometimes, you just can’t pass up a player of Jones’ talent. He was the best player on the best team in the FCS. The kid is going to provide some relief for McFadden if DMC misses a few games with his usual injuries. The only thing that will keep Jones back is his own injury troubles. They need to find the right balance in terms of how much weight he can put on.

McFadden, Jones, and possibly Bush (although doubtful if he’s given starter’s money in free agency) will make one of the top backfields in the NFL.

  9. edmazeing1: I’m sure Cannon was a player the Raiders considered earlier in the draft process but since he was diagnosed with cancer and has to undergo chemo he’s an iffy prospect. I wish him the best and hope he beats this horrible illness but I can understand not wanting to draft a player with that sort or medical report.

  10. Overstock.com Coliseum’s scoreboard is being fitted for a 3rd digit for the home team’s score.
