Giants will put fans on their 2011 tickets

FootballTicketsAP

Game tickets often feature photos of players. The Giants are taking a different approach this year, possibly due in part to the fact that the league and the players aren’t really getting along right now.

The team has announced that fans will appear on the game tickets. They’ll be selected via a contest that determines the faces to be on the tickets based on a story and a photo that demonstrates their “Giants pride.”

The team will pick 20 finalists, and fans will have a chance to vote for their favorite story via Facebook. The top 10 will appear on each of the 2011 home tickets.

“We want to recognize the greatness of Giants fans in a timeless and meaningful manner, and this program aims to achieve that mission,” Giants Senior VP and Chief Marketing Officer Mike Stevens said in a release. “Ultimately, through our Facebook Page fans will democratically select other fans to be pictured on our 2011 tickets; a true first in our 86-year history. The foundation of the Giants’ rich tradition is an incredibly loyal and strong fan base, and through the power of social media this program will enable us to celebrate Giants fans and their great stories. This is going to be a lot of fun.”

The specific game for each winning fan will be determined by the Giants. Which, given the lockout, could be the difference between appearing on tickets that are actually used -- and on tickets that eventually are submitted for a refund.
