Rob Gronkowski: Patriots working out quietly, unlike other teams

As the lockout wears on, some teams have gathered for well-publicized, player-organized team workouts. New England tight end Rob Gronkowski says the Patriots are working as hard as anyone. They’re just not working hard at bringing attention to themselves.

“We’ve been doing everything, but we’re on the down-low,” Gronkowski told Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com. "[Others teams] may go to the media, acting like they’re some of the only teams doing it, but we’re working hard out here too. We’re just keeping it low.”

It’s hard not to think that Gronkowski was referring to the “Jets West” camp that quarterback Mark Sanchez organized, which has drawn a lot of media attention. Gronkowski seems to think working out quietly is the better approach. (Of course, working out really quietly would mean not talking about it at all.)

“We are intense. The workouts are insane,” Gronkowski said. “We’ve been getting after it hard. I feel great right now, ready to go.”

Gronkowski wouldn’t say which teammates have been participating, although Reiss reports that quarterback Tom Brady has been working out mostly on the West Coast, and that if the lockout lasts a long time some of the Patriots’ receivers may head west to work with him.

I have a feeling that camp would draw a healthy dose of media attention.
