Eventual free-agent running back Garrett Wolfe, who has spent four years with the Bears, was born on August 17, 1984.
Earlier today, a person named Garrett Wolfe — born on the same day — was arrested on multiple charges in Miami Beach.
The Garrett Wolfe who plays pro football is listed at 5’7″ and 185 pounds. The Garrett Wolfe who was arrested in Miami is listed at 5’9″ and 200 pounds.
Wolfe faces charges of retail theft, disorderly conduct, assault of a police officer, and resisting arrest with violence.
According to online records, Wolfe is currently jailed on total bond of $11,500.
The Garrett Wolfe who plays football did not receive a restricted free agency tender from the Bears. Thus, whenever football starts up again, he’ll be an unrestricted free agent.
Until there’s 100-percent confirmation that the Garrett Wolfe with a August 17, 1984 date of birth is the same Garrett Wolfe with an August 17, 1984 date of birth who plays pro football, we’ll leave the days without an arrest meter as is, and we’ll hold off on updating the police blotter.
We’ve got a feeling that, in fairly short order, we’ll be able to make those changes. Indeed, the person who tipped us off to the arrest says it’s the same guy.
But if there are two guys living in the United States with the name Garrett Wolfe born on the exact same day, that would be a far more interesting story.
UPDATE: NFLPA records (pre-decertification) indicate that Wolfe is represented by Rick Smith. We’ve called and texted Smith in search of confirmation that there aren’t two Garrett Wolfes born on the same day. Also, Wolfe’s Twitter page suggests that he arrived in Miami on Saturday. Jon Greenberg of ESPNChicago.com reports via Twitter that he and Wolfe were on the same flight to Miami.
SECOND UPDATE: Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports that it’s indeed the same guy. Time to reset the meter and update the blotter.
