There’s been plenty of talk during the lockout that Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant could use some guidance -- the kind of guidance that teams are prohibited from giving to players until the lockout is over.
But Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says Bryant is going to be fine, and he’s counting on the Cowboys’ veteran players to hold Bryant accountable while the Cowboys’ coaches and Jones himself can’t.
“I really wouldn’t want to address any particular player. But I will, since I was asked the question -- no, I’m not concerned,” Jones told Albert Breer of NFL Network. “I think that Dez does have accountability right now, not only within himself, but also to his teammates. And at the end of the day, those two constituencies, Dez himself as well as his teammates, are the ones that are going to make the biggest difference in his life. So he’s in the right area for the right type of influence, and I think that will have a positive impact.”
The question is how much Bryant will be around the Cowboys’ veterans for them to have an influence on him. Bryant has participated in some, but not all, of the Cowboys’ player-organized workouts.
