Eagles, Rams the early favorites to land Plaxico

plaxburress1

With Plaxico Burress out of prison and free to sign with any team as soon as the lockout ends, the speculation is mounting about where he might end up.

It is just that -- speculation -- but without much other NFL news going on at the moment, there’s a lot of interest in where Burress will go. Bodog.com is actually accepting bets on where Burress will end up, and the Eagles are the betting favorites.

That’s not a surprise: Eagles quarterback Michael Vick has said he’d like to play with Burress and help him make the same prison-to-NFL adjustment that Vick himself successfully made, and one of Burress’s friends and former teammates, Brandon Jacobs, has said he thinks Burress is heading to Philly. However, there have also been reports throwing cold water on the idea of Burress as an Eagle.

Jacobs has also said he thinks Burress might return to the Giants, although most observers don’t view that as likely.

If Philadelphia isn’t Burress’s landing point, St. Louis might be. Burress and Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo were with the Giants at the same time, and the Rams would like to add a veteran receiver.

The Jets, always looking for talented veteran receivers, are expected to inquire about Burress.

Although Dwayne Wade, of all people, has weighed in saying Burress should be a Bear, that is not considered likely.

Other teams that have been mentioned and dismissed as potential suitors for Burress include the Patriots and Steelers.
